It is a common belief that the behavior of shareholders depends upon the
direction of price fluctuations: if prices increase they buy, if prices
decrease they sell. That belief, however, is more based on ``common sense''
than on facts. In this paper we present evidence for a specific class of
shareholders which shows that the actual behavior of shareholders can be

The Lightest Pseudo-Goldstone Boson at Future e+e- Colliders
In a class of models of dynamical symmetry breaking not ruled out by the
available data, the lightest neutral pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson P0 contains
only down-type techniquarks and charged technileptons. Its mass scale is
naturally determined by the b-quark and therefore it is likely to be light. As
the presence of pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone bosons in models of dynamical symmetry
breaking is a quite general feature, the search of the P0 at colliders is an
interesting opportunity of putting limits on or discovering a dynamical
electroweak symmetry breaking scenario. In this note we discuss the prospects

Extended X-ray emission around RRAT J1819-1458
We present new imaging and spectral analysis of the recently discovered
extended X-ray emission around the high-magnetic-field rotating radio transient
RRAT J1819-1458. We used two Chandra observations, taken on 2008 May 31 and
2011 May 28. The diffuse X-ray emission was detected with a significance of
~19sigma in the image obtained by combining the two observations. Long-term
spectral variability has not been observed. Possible scenarios for the origin
of this diffuse X-ray emission, further detailed in Camero-Arranz et al.

Comparative assessment of young learners' foreign language competence in three Eastern European countries
This paper concerns teacher practices in, and beliefs about, the assessment of young learners' progress in English in three Eastern European countries (Slovenia, Croatia, and the Czech Republic). The central part of the paper focuses on an international project involving empirical research into assessment of young learners' foreign language competence in Slovenia, Croatia and the Czech Republic. With the help of an adapted questionnaire, we collected data from a non-random sample of primary and foreign language teachers who teach foreign languages at the primary level in these countries. The research shows that English as a foreign language is taught mostly by young teachers either primary specialists or foreign language teachers. These teachers most frequently use oral assessment/interviews or self-developed tests. Other more authentic types of assessment, such as language portfolios, are rarely used. The teachers most frequently assess speaking and listening skills, and they use assessment involving vocabulary the most frequently of all. However, there are significant differences in practice among the three countries
Search for radio pulsations in LS I +61 303
Context. LS I +61 303 is a member of the select group of gamma-ray binaries:
galactic binary systems that contain a massive star and a compact object, show
a changing milliarcsecond morphology and a similar broad spectral energy
distribution (SED) that peaks at MeV-TeV energies and is modulated by the
orbital motion. The nature of the compact object is unclear in LS I +61 303, LS
5039 and HESS J0632+057, whereas PSR B1259-63 harbours a 47.74 ms radio pulsar.
Aims. A scenario in which a young pulsar wind interacts with the stellar wind
has been proposed to explain the very high energy (VHE, E > 100 GeV) gamma-ray
emission detected from LS I +61 303, although no pulses have been reported from
this system at any wavelength. We aim to find evidence of the pulsar nature of
the compact object. Methods. We performed phased array observations with the
Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) at 1280 MHz centred at phase 0.54.
Simultaneous data from the multi-bit phased array (PA) back-end with a sampling
time of tsamp = 128 microsec and from the polarimeter (PMT) back-end with tsamp
= 256 microsec where taken. Results. No pulses have been found in the data set,
with a minimum detectable mean flux density of \sim 0.38 mJy at 8-sigma level
for the pulsed emission from a putative pulsar with period P >2 ms and duty
cycle D = 10% in the direction of LS I +61 303. Conclusions. The detection of
posible radio pulsations will require deep and sensitive observations at
frequencies \sim0.5-5 GHz and orbital phases 0.6-0.7. However, it may be
unfeasible to detect pulses if the putative pulsar is not beamed at the Earth

Fifteen years of XMM-Newton and Chandra monitoring of Sgr A*: Evidence for a recent increase in the bright flaring rate
We present a study of the X-ray flaring activity of Sgr A* during all the 150
XMM-Newton and Chandra observations pointed at the Milky Way center over the
last 15 years. This includes the latest XMM-Newton and Chandra campaigns
devoted to monitoring the closest approach of the very red Br-Gamma emitting
object called G2. The entire dataset analysed extends from September 1999
through November 2014. We employed a Bayesian block analysis to investigate any
possible variations in the characteristics (frequency, energetics, peak
intensity, duration) of the flaring events that Sgr A* has exhibited since
their discovery in 2001. We observe that the total bright-or-very bright flare
luminosity of Sgr A* increased between 2013-2014 by a factor of 2-3 (~3.5 sigma
significance). We also observe an increase (~99.9% significance) from
0.27+-0.04 to 2.5+-1.0 day^-1 of the bright-or-very bright flaring rate of Sgr
A*, starting in late summer 2014, which happens to be about six months after
G2's peri-center passage. This might indicate that clustering is a general
property of bright flares and that it is associated with a stationary noise
process producing flares not uniformly distributed in time (similar to what is
observed in other quiescent black holes). If so, the variation in flaring
properties would be revealed only now because of the increased monitoring
frequency. Alternatively, this may be the first sign of an excess accretion
activity induced by the close passage of G2. More observations are necessary to
distinguish between these two hypotheses.Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRA
