A catalog of southern dust cloud properties is being compiled to aid in the planning and analysis of radio spectral line surveys in the southern hemisphere. Ultimately, images of dust temperature and column density will be produced. Le domaine de la vérification du locuteur regroupe les applications pour lesquelles on désire identifier l'identité d'une personne à partir de sa voix. Le champ d'application couvre de nombreux secteurs tels que l'accès sécurisé, les transactions téléphoniques, la surveillance, l'indexation audio ou encore l'expertise judiciaire. Notre étude porte sur l'étape d'extraction de caractéristiques du système de reconnaissance du locuteur. Ce module a pour fonction d'extraire du signal de parole les informations pertinentes du point de vue de la discrimination inter-locuteur. Nous proposons dans cet article d'utiliser un algorithme génétique pour optimiser un système d'extraction de caractéristiques adapté à la reconnaissance du locuteur. La méthode proposée permet d'obtenir une amélioration significative du taux de reconnaissance sur la base Nist SRE 2005
Lattice diffusion and surface segregation of B during growth of SiGe heterostructures by molecular beam epitaxy: effect of Ge concentration and biaxial stress
Si1-xGex/Si1-yGey/Si(100) heterostructures grown by Molecular Beam Epitaxy
(MBE) were used in order to study B surface segregation during growth and B
lattice diffusion. Ge concentration and stress effects were separated. Analysis
of B segregation during growth shows that: i) for layers in epitaxy on
(100)Si), B segregation decreases with increasing Ge concentration, i.e. with
increased compressive stress, ii) for unstressed layers, B segregation
increases with Ge concentration, iii) at constant Ge concentration, B
segregation increases for layers in tension and decreases for layers in
compression. The contrasting behaviors observed as a function of Ge
concentration in compressively stressed and unstressed layers can be explained
by an increase of the equilibrium segregation driving force induced by Ge
additions and an increase of near-surface diffusion in compressively stressed
layers. Analysis of lattice diffusion shows that: i) in unstressed layers, B
lattice diffusion coefficient decreases with increasing Ge concentration, ii)
at constant Ge concentration, the diffusion coefficient of B decreases with
compressive biaxial stress and increases with tensile biaxial stress, iii) the
volume of activation of B diffusion () is positive for biaxial stress while it
is negative in the case of hydrostatic pressure. This confirms that under a
biaxial stress the activation volume is reduced to the relaxation volume
An application of hybrid life cycle assessment as a decision support framework for green supply chains
In an effort to achieve sustainable operations, green supply chain management has become an important area for firms to concentrate on due to its inherent involvement with all the processes that provide foundations to successful business. Modelling methodologies of product supply chain environmental assessment are usually guided by the principles of life cycle assessment (LCA). However, a review of the extant literature suggests that LCA techniques suffer from a wide range of limitations that prevent a wider application in real-world contexts; hence, they need to be incorporated within decision support frameworks to aid environmental sustainability strategies. Thus, this paper contributes in understanding and overcoming the dichotomy between LCA model development and the emerging practical implementation to inform carbon emissions mitigation strategies within supply chains. Therefore, the paper provides both theoretical insights and a practical application to inform the process of adopting a decision support framework based on a LCA methodology in a real-world scenario. The supply chain of a product from the steel industry is considered to evaluate its environmental impact and carbon ‘hotspots’. The study helps understanding how operational strategies geared towards environmental sustainability can be informed using knowledge and information generated from supply chain environmental assessments, and for highlighting inherent challenges in this process
An Investigation into the Mediating Influence of Customer Expertise on the Antecedents and Consequences of Affect within Professional Service Markets
This study examines the mediating influence of consumer expertise
on the antecedents and consequences of Affect within a professional services
market context. Whilst there is increasing evidence to suggest an empirical link
between Affect evoked and satisfaction within such contexts, previous research
has largely ignored the role of consumer expertise as a mediating influence.
Using a scenario based approach, the objective of the study was to test for multigroup
invariance among competing structural models based on the ability of
the respondents to form expectation and performance assessments about the
service they are receiving. The results indicate that it is important to examine
different levels of consumer expertise in detail to better understand how certain
characteristics such as experience and qualifications influence the priority and
functionality attached to service attributes when making satisfaction judgments
within a professional service context. This may in turn have broader implications
for our contextual understanding of services
Feeding spectra and activity of the freshwater crab Trichodactylus kensleyi (Decapoda: Brachyura: Trichodactylidae) at La Plata basin
Background: In inland water systems, it is important to characterize the trophic links in order to identify the ‘trophic species’ and, from the studies of functional diversity, understand the dynamics of matter and energy in these environments. The aim of this study is to analyze the natural diet of Trichodactylus kensleyi of subtropical rainforest streams and corroborate the temporal variation in the trophic activity during day hours.
Results: A total of 15 major taxonomic groups were recognized in gut contents. The index of relative importance identified the following main prey items in decreasing order of importance: vegetal remains, oligochaetes, chironomid larvae, and algae. A significant difference was found in the amount of full stomachs during day hours showing a less trophic activity at midday and afternoon. The index of relative importance values evidenced the consumption of different prey according to day moments. Results of the gut content indicate that T. kensleyi is an omnivorous crab like other trichodactylid species. Opportunistic behavior is revealed by the ingestion of organisms abundant in streams such as oligochaetes and chironomid larvae. The consumption of allochthonous plant debris shows the importance of this crab as shredder in subtropical streams. However, the effective assimilation of plant matter is yet unknown in trichodactylid crabs.
Conclusions: This research provides knowledge that complements previous studies about trophic relationships of trichodactylid crabs and supported the importance of T. kensleyi in the transference of energy and matter from benthic community and riparian sources to superior trophic levels using both macro- and microfauna.Fil: Williner, Verónica. Oil pollution in the North Sea: the impact of governance measures on oil pollution over several decades
Oil pollution entering the marine environment has been an issue of concern for many decades. It can come from riverine or land-based sources, accidental and intentional discharges from ships, or as a
by-product of offshore oil extraction. Growing awareness of the impact of oil pollution on the marine environment has led, since the late 1960s, to the introduction of measures to reduce or eliminate pollution from shipping and the offshore oil industry. A framework for environmental protection of the North Sea has developed over many decades through
international agreements, regional cooperation, and national measures, while education has also played an important role with modern-day sailors being given due training to understand that dumping waste at sea is illegal in many areas, and is harmful to the marine environment. This paper presents data on trends in pollution from ships and oil installations. While significant reductions in oil pollution have been identified over more than two decades, there remain some areas where action is needed to reduce inputs still further, especially from oil and gas platforms
CO2 soil flux baseline at the technological development plant for CO2 injection at Hontomin (Burgos, Spain)
From the end of 2013 and during the following two years, 20 kt of CO2sc are planned to be injected in a saline reservoir (1500 m depth) at the Hontomín site (NE Spain). The target aquifers are Lower Jurassic limestone formations which are sealed by Lower Cretaceous clay units at the Hontomín site (NE Spain). The injection of CO2 is part of the activities committed in the Technology Development phase of the EC-funded OXYCFB300 project (European Energy Program for Recovery – EEPR, http://www.compostillaproject.eu), which include CO2 injection strategies, risk assessment, and testing and validating monitoring methodologies and techniques.
Among the monitoring works, the project is intended to prove that present-day technology is able to monitor the evolution of injected CO2 in the reservoir and to detect potential leakage. One of the techniques is the measurement of CO2 flux at the soil–atmosphere interface, which includes campaigns before, during and after the injection operations.
In this work soil CO2 flux measurements in the vicinity of oil borehole, drilled in the eighties and named H-1 to H-4, and injection and monitoring wells were performed using an accumulation chamber equipped with an IR sensor. Seven surveys were carried out from November 2009 to summer 2011. More than 4000 measurements were used to determine the baseline flux of CO2 and its seasonal variations.
The measured values were low (from 5 to 13 g m−2 day−1) and few outliers were identified, mainly located close to the H-2 oil well. Nevertheless, these values cannot be associated to a deep source of CO2, being more likely related to biological processes, i.e. soil respiration. No anomalies were recognized close to the deep fault system (Ubierna Fault) detected by geophysical investigations. There, the CO2 flux is indeed as low as other measurement stations. CO2 fluxes appear to be controlled by the biological activity since the lowest values were recorded during autumn-winter seasons and they tend to increase in warm periods. Two reference CO2 flux values (UCL50 of 5 g m−2 d−1 for non-ploughed areas in autumn–winter seasons and 3.5 and 12 g m−2 d−1 for in ploughed and non-ploughed areas, respectively, in spring–summer time, and UCL99 of 26 g m−2 d−1 for autumn–winter in not-ploughed areas and 34 and 42 g m−2 d−1 for spring–summer in ploughed and not-ploughed areas, respectively) were calculated. Fluxes higher than these reference values could be indicative of possible leakage during the operational and post-closure stages of the storage project
