As part of the Ministry of Defense's as well as the Malaysian Armed Forces in general and the Malaysian Army HQ's drive for responsive, high quality military services, the 2001 Booklet on Learning Organization suggested that the services must become a learning organization. The environmental forces that stem from the technological advancement, social changes, economic and demographic changes and consumerism have placed a great challenge to the military and army leaders in insuring their organizations achieved a world class status. Yet, the readiness and the application as well as the implementation of the learning organization ideal in the military organizations is viewed as significantly constrained by a number of factors, including the hierarchy, structures, culture, tradition, the leadership and so forth. To achieve such world class standards, organizations therefore must continually operate in a state of transformation. Approprite management styles thus are seen to be important in promoting and fostering a creative and learning culture within an organization. It is believed that appropriate management styles that have the abilities to develop a shared vision, special competencies, unity, a constructive thinking among employees, and to encourage open and honest communication throughout the organization. It would be the leaders who inspire a learning organization. Therefore, this study aims to assess the readiness of the military organizations in this case, the Royal Military Police Corps turning to be a Learning Organization by measuring 12 dimensions of the Learning Organization Practices Profile and 5 dimensions of Learning Organization Profile as well as identifying the management styles that are pertinent to learning organization by using Likert's (1976) four-management styles questionnaire and determines how these styles influence the learning organization practices and readiness drawn from the learning organization literature. This research offered an opportunity to assess the extent to which striving for this contributes to progress towards the learning organizational ideal

Adaptive interference mitigation with user grouping for fast transmission in cellular networks

    Get PDF
Designing uplink systems which group users with adaptive interference mitigation techniques is the objective of this research. Reduction in error rates and improvement in the energy efficiency is expected with this approach in addition to spectral efficiency. This paper reports a study on interference mitigation and transmission designs for groups of users in the uplinks. New formulations for the interference mitigation are produced based on the minimum mean square error and successive interference cancellation approach. By reducing the interference, the energy efficiency can be maintained and improved although the number of users per group increases. The measured error rates of this approach with user grouping achieve gains between 1 to 3 dB against that of the existing approach. With reduced complexity, the proposed scheme should be viable for practical deployment

Surface area of Merambong Shoal Seagrass Bed (MSSB) is an important area for aquatic organisms as well as human communities for fishing activity. Present study was conducted to evaluate the current status of selected heavy metals contamination in surface sediments collected from the MSSB. Samples of surface sediments were collected from multiple locations along MSSB. The heavy metal concentrations of the present study were compared with previously conducted studies in similar location, as well as other location in Malaysia. Geofractionation of heavy metals were also determined. Based on the obtained mean concentration of each metal, a few indices were used to demonstrate the present level of contamination in the surface sediment of MSSB. The findings of this research are important for monitoring heavy metals pollution and conservation management

Al-Qira’at (the variant readings of the Qur’an) has been revealed by Allah Almighty and delivered to His Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him). It could not be denied that al-sunnah al-nabawiyah (the prophetic tradition) is attributed to the Prophet (PBUH). However, a group of people accuse the existing al-Qira’at as weak and not true (‘adamu sihhah). Moreover, they claim that such al-Qira’at is not continuous in sanad (chain of narrators). This study aims to elucidate the strong relationship between al-Qira’at and al-sunnah al-nabawiyah. In addition, it describes the effort of hadith scholars in al-Qira’at. This study used analysis document method by analysing related data of al-Qira’at from al-Sunnah as well as to realize the effort of h hadith scholars in compiling the selected al-Qira’at which have continuous sanad to Rasulullah (PBUH). The finding has shown that there is a significant relationship between al-Qira’at and al-sunnah since his prophethood period. It also shows clear efforts done by these hadith scholars in compiling various types of al-Qira’at in their works. That compilation of al-Qira’ats are available in certain kitab (book) such as mutun Hadith, syarah Hadith including their writings related to al-Qira’at with Sanad

A Comparative Study of AHP and Fuzzy AHP Method for Inconsistent Data

    Get PDF
In various cases of decision analysis we use two popular methods – Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) and Fuzzy based AHP or Fuzzy AHP. Both the methods deal with stochastic data and can determine decision result through Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) process. Obviously resulting values of the two methods are not same though same set of data is fed into them. In this research work, we have tried to observe similarities and dissimilarities between two methods’ outputs. Almost same trend or fluctuations in outputs have been seen for both methods’ for same set of input data which are not consistent. Both method outputs’ ups and down fluctuations are same for fifty percent cases

Cause and effect prediction in manufacturing process using an improved neural networks

The limitations of the existing Knowledge Hyper-surface method in learning cause and effect relationships in the manufacturing process is explored. A new approach to enhance the performance of the current Knowledge Hyper-surface method has been proposed by constructing midpoints between each primary weight along each dimension by using a quadratic Lagrange interpolation polynomial. The new secondary-weight values, generated due to the addition of midpoints, were also represented as a linear combination of the corresponding primary/axial weight values. An improved neural networks in learning from examples have also been proposed where both of the proposed algorithms able to constrain the shape of the surface in two-dimensional and multidimensional cases and produced more realistic and acceptable results as compared to the previous version. The ability of the proposed approach to models the exponential increase/decrease in the belief values by using high-ordered polynomials without introducing 'over-fitting' effects was investigated. The performance of the proposed method in modelling the exponential increase/decrease in belief values was carried out on real cases taken from real casting data. The computed graphical results of the proposed methods were compared with the current Knowledge Hyper-surface and neural-network methods. As a result, the proposed methods correctly predict the sensitivity of process-parameter variations with the occurrence of a defect and very important area of research in a robust design methodology

    Get PDF
The increasing computational complexity in scheduling the large number of users for non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system and future cellular networks lead to the need for scheduling models with relatively lower computational complexity such as heuristic models. The main objective of this paper is to conduct a concise study on ant-colony optimization (ACO) methods and potential nature-inspired heuristic models for NOMA implementation in future high-speed networks. The issues, challenges and future work of ACO and other related heuristic models in NOMA are concisely reviewed. The throughput result of the proposed ACO method is observed to be close to the maximum theoretical value and stands 44% higher than that of the existing method. This result demonstrates the effectiveness of ACO implementation for NOMA user scheduling and grouping
