    The relationship between eating attitudes and distress tolerance in obsessive compulsive disorder

    Objective: The main purpose of this study is to investigate the eating attitudes of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) patients, while the secondary purpose is to examine the relationship between eating attitudes and distress tolerance. Methods: The study included 60 OCD patients and 60 healthy individuals as a control group. The data of the study were collected using the Padua Inventory (PE), Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26), Distress Tolerance Scale (DTS) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Results: In comparison to the control group, the EAT-26 (p = 0.001) and BDI (p = 0.001) scores of the patient group were significantly higher, while the DTS total score (p = 0.001) was significantly low. The patients were divided into two groups based on the EAT-26 cutoff score. In the group with EAT-26 ≥ 30; the total PI score (p = 0.035), rumination (p = 0.010), impulses (p = 0.001) and sub-scale scores and BDI scores (p = 0.038) were significantly higher, while the DTS total score (p = 0.005), tolerance (p = 0.000), regulation (p = 0.013) and self-efficacy (p = 0.009) sub-scale scores were significantly lower. Discussion: Our study found that the eating habits of the OCD patients were more irregular than those of the healthy individuals.     Anatomical and micromorphological properties of some Tanacetum L. (Asteraceae) taxa from Turkey and their systematic implications

    In this study, the anatomy and trichome micromorphology of Tanacetum macrophyllum (Waldst.& Kit.) Schultz, T. parthenium (L.) Schultz, T. poteriifolium (Ledeb.) Grierson and T. vulgare L. were examined by light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Some anatomical characters such as presence of secretory cavities and pith in root and mesophyll type in leaf provide information of taxonomical significance. In addition, the existence of a parenchymatic layer, which consists of elongated parenchymatic cells in the stem of T. macrophyllum, is a distinguishing character. The results obtained from scanning electron microscope studies showed that trichome micromorphology varies among examined taxa. In T. macrophyllum, the eglandular and glandular trichomes especially on disc florets, ligulate florets and cypselas are more sparse, whereas disc florets and cypselas of the other taxa are covered with abundant glandular trichomes. Additionally, T. poteriifolium and T. parthenium has a distinct distribution of glandular trichomes forming in a row across the entire cypsela surface

    From real spaces to virtual spaces: The metaverse and decentralized cinema

    Developments in computer and communication technologies, which constitute the starting point of concepts such as decentralization, virtuality, simulation, augmented reality and metaverse, have also brought new forms of expression and designs in art to the agenda. In addition to the decentralized data architecture and metaverse areas that emerged in parallel with the development of network technologies, applications that increase the user's interaction and beleaguered experience such as virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality have increased their effectiveness in this field. The metaverse spaces that emerge with the cooperation of software, art and architecture offer their users a more similar life simulation of natural life through augmented reality vehicles or screens. Here, users can perform new experiences for artistic production and consumption as well as daily life practices such as socialization and communication. Metaverse spaces, which include the design of a three-dimensional virtual universe that can be supported by augmented reality, are free from all the constraints of the real world as a cinematic plateau. It is seen as a great advantage that the real film set can create a cinematic work without expensive equipment such as cameras, lights, and sound away from all the negativities of the natural shooting conditions. The fact that the production, distribution and screening of cinema works can be realized within this field brings a new understanding of decentralized cinema to the agenda. Decentralized cinema, which has begun to rise in the expanding virtual geography of the metaverse virtual space with its advantages such as virtual characters and scenes and creative space fictions, is an art form worth examining. This study focuses on the possible future transformations of cinema in terms of production and representation in the context of the relationship of virtual and augmented reality technologies with developing metaverse areas. The emergence of a new cinematic ecology; The opportunities and obstacles it provides to producers are examined with the philosophical criticism method through concepts such as virtual and augmented reality, web 3.0, metaverse in terms of audience experiences it offers for screening.  As a result of the study, it was concluded that the metaverse area has many advantages in terms of the production of cinema works, democratization of the production and distribution of works, digital privacy and security for metaverse artists, and recognition of ownership for digital works of art

    How the economic situation moderates the influence of available money on compulsive buying of students — a comparative study between Turkey and Greece

    Abstract Background and aims Few studies about compulsive buying consider the economic framing situation. This study is concerned with the impact of different economic environments — the crisis in Greece vs. the boom in Turkey — on compulsive buying tendencies of students, while taking the role of gender and available money into account. Methods Compulsive buying was measured by a Greek and Turkish translation of the German Compulsive Buying Scale (Raab, Neuner, Reisch & Scherhorn, 2005) in Greece and Turkey, which enabled an identification of compulsive and compensatory buyers. The questionnaires were administered to 119 Turkish and 123 Greek students (n = 242) enrolled in several universities in Athens and Istanbul. The data collection was conducted in a controlled and standardized way, namely in group-sessions lasting about 5 minutes, which were conducted and supervised by co-workers of the involved universities. Results The results have shown that the percentage of compensatory buyers, but not compulsive buyers, within the Greek students sample was significantly smaller than within the Turkish student sample. Further as assumed the moderation of the economic situation could be confirmed: More available money only has a facilitating effect on compulsive buying tendencies under a positive economic environment. Conclusions Anticipations about the financial situation and the general economic climate are more relevant for compulsive buying tendencies than one's actual available money. Compensatory, but not compulsive buying was significantly smaller under crisis

    Green Synthesis and the formation kinetics of silver nanoparticles in aqueous Inula Viscosa extract

    In this study, we present the production of silver nanoparticles in aqueous Inula Viscosa extract by the green synthesis approach at room temperature. The structural, morphological properties as well as formation kinetics of the synthesized silver nanoparticles were characterized by UV-VIS, STEM, XRD, Raman and FTIR measurements. Mono-dispersed and very stable silver nanoparticles with size of 15±\pm5 nm and face-centered cubic crystal structure were synthesized in aqueous Inula Viscosa extract. The kinetic studies of silver nanoparticles formation in Inula Viscosa extract show that silver nanoparticle formation reaction reached the equilibrium within 24 h and fit in the first-order reaction kinetics. The results clearly show that the size of fabricated nanoparticles is independent on the dynamical formation process since the reaction time and initial silver ion concentration did not affect on size and morphology of the produced particles.Comment: 10 pages, 11 figure

    Equilibrium, kinetic and thermodynamic studies on the removal of U(VI) by low cost agricultural waste

    In this research, biosorption efficiency of different agro-wastes were evaluated with rice husk showing maximum biosorption capacity among the selected biosorbents. Optimization of native, SDS-treated and immobilized rice husk adsorption parameters including pH, biosorbent amount, contact time, initial U(VI) concentration and temperature for maximum U(VI) removal was investigated. Maximum biosorption capacity for native (29.56 mg g-1) and immobilized biomass (17.59 mg g-1) was observed at pH 4 while SDS-treated biomass showed maximum removal (28.08 mg g-1) at pH 5. The Langmuir sorption isotherm model correlated best with the U(IV) biosorption equilibrium data for the 10-100 mg L-1 concentration range. The kinetics of the reaction followed pseudo-second order kinetic model. Thermodynamic parameters like free energy (ΔG°) and enthalpy (ΔH°) confirmed the spontaneous and exothermic nature of the process. Experiments to determine the regeneration capacity of the selected biosorbents and the effect of competing metal ions on biosorption capacity were also conducted. The biomass was characterised using scanning electron microscopy, surface area analysis, Fourier transformed infra-red spectroscopy and thermal gravimetric analysis.     A Novel Identity-Based Privacy-Preserving Anonymous Authentication Scheme for Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication

    This paper proposes a novel bilinear pairing-free identity-based privacy-preserving anonymous authentication scheme for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication, called “NIBPA”. Today, vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) offer important solutions for traffic safety and efficiency. However, VANETs are vulnerable to cyberattacks due to their use of wireless communication. Therefore, authentication schemes are used to solve security and privacy issues in VANETs. The NIBPA satisfies the security and privacy requirements and is robust to cyberattacks. It is also a pairing-free elliptic curve cryptography (ECC)-based lightweight authentication scheme. The bilinear pairing operation and the map-to-point hash function in cryptography have not been used because of their high computational costs. Moreover, it provides batch message verification to improve VANETs performance. The NIBPA is compared to existing schemes in terms of computational cost and communication cost. It is also a test for security in the random oracle model (ROM). As a result of security and performance analysis, NIBPA gives better results compared to existing schemes
