Information Needs of Physicians and Surgeons of Jammu & Kashmir
The paper attempts to explore the information needs of physicians and
surgeons of Jammu & Kashmir
Design/Methodology/Approach: The survey is conducted among physicians and
surgeons working at primary, secondary and tertiary health care institutions by
administrating a questionnaire employing stratified random sampling.
Findings: The information needs of the physicians and surgeons vary with practice
location, affiliation and specialization. Most of the physicians and surgeons need
patient data/patient care information, latest medical knowledge, information
about new drugs and medical products/equipments.
Originality/Value: The identification of information needs of physicians and
surgeons is a maiden attempt for the state of J & K. This study may encourage and
foster further research for effectiveness and better performance of medical
libraries and information managers in the State
Hepatoprotective role of vitexin against cadmium-induced liver damage in male rats: A biochemical, inflammatory, apoptotic and histopathological investigation

the multiple organs of the body, including liver. The present investigation was planned to evaluate the protective
role of vitexin against Cd-prompted hepatotoxicity in rats. 24 male rats were divided into 4 groups viz. control,
Cd-induced group (5 mg/kg), Cd + vitexin-treated group (2 mg/kg + 30 mg/kg), and vitexin-treated group (30
mg/kg). After 30 days of treatment, it was indicated that Cd escalated the level of liver function enzymes namely
alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) as well as total
bilirubin. Whereas the levels of albumin and total proteins were decreased in the rats. Additionally, it reduced
the enzymatic activities of catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione
reductase (GSR) and glutathione-S-transferase (GST), in addition to glutathione (GSH) content, whereas
levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) were escalated. Furthermore, level of nuclear
factor-kappa B (NF-κB), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) and interleukin-6
(IL-6) as well as the activity of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) were increased. Besides, the level of Bax, caspase-9
and caspase-3 were elevated, while the Bcl-2 level was reduced following the Cd intoxication. Histopathological
observation revealed significant hepatic tissue damage in Cd-administered rats. However, treatment of rats
with vitexin significantly (p < 0.05) improved the Cd-induced disruptions in biochemical parameters as well as
histological damages. Therefore, it is concluded that vitexin could be used as a therapeutic agent to counter the
Cd-generated hepatic toxicity in rats owing to its anti-oxidant, anti-apoptotic and anti-inflammatory potential
Performance of UMTS/WLAN Integration at Hot-Spot Locations Using OPNET
Due to the many benefits provided by both the third-generation (3G) mobile networks and the IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLANs), it is desirable to integrate both types of networks. While studies specifying generic integration architectures are abundant, there are little or no studies that are dedicated for applications performance over such heterogeneous networks. Using simulations, this paper evaluates the performance of two 3G/WLAN integration schemes: loose and open coupling, together with two mobility management schemes: Mobile IP and mobile stream control transmission protocol (mSCTP) for an airport as a typical example of a hot-spot location. In addition, the evaluation is carried out for a wide range of application mixes consisting of FTP, HTTP and multimedia. Utilizing OPNET as the simulation platform and incorporating the required protocols to support our implementation of the Mobile IP and mSCTP, we generate a large matrix of performance figures for the 4 network configurations under all applications mixes considered. The results summarized in this paper indicate that integration methods considered have little impact on the application mixes studied in terms of delay but show that FTP and HTTP throughput is better with loose coupling scheme. Further, quantifying the handoff delay between the 3G and WLAN networks, the results indicate that a loose-couple integration solution together with Mobile IP provides the best performance
Synthesis and in silico study of 2-furyl(4-{4-[(substituted)sulfonyl]benzyl}-1-piperazinyl)methanone derivatives as suitable therapeutic agents
Abstract In the study presented here, a new series of 2-furyl(4-{4-[(substituted)sulfonyl]benzyl}-1-piperazinyl)methanone derivatives was targeted. The synthesis was initiated by the treatment of different secondary amines (1a-h) with 4-bromomethylbenzenesulfonyl chloride (2) to obtain various 1-{[4-(bromomethyl)phenyl]sulfonyl}amines (3a-h). 2-Furyl(1-piperazinyl)methanone (2-furoyl-1-piperazine; 4) was then dissolved in acetonitrile, with the addition of K2CO3, and the mixture was refluxed for activation. This activated molecule was further treated with equi-molar amounts of 3a-h to form targeted 2-furyl(4-{4-[(substituted)sulfonyl]benzyl}-1-piperazinyl)methanone derivatives (5a-h) in the same reaction set up. The structure confirmation of all the synthesized compounds was carried out by EI-MS, IR and 1H-NMR spectral analysis. The compounds showed good enzyme inhibitory activity. Compound 5h showed excellent inhibitory effect against acetyl- and butyrylcholinesterase with respective IC50 values of 2.91±0.001 and 4.35±0.004 μM, compared to eserine, a reference standard with IC50 values of 0.04±0.0001 and 0.85±0.001 μM, respectively, against these enzymes. All synthesized molecules were active against almost all Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains tested. The cytotoxicity of the molecules was also checked to determine their utility as possible therapeutic agents
Tracking development assistance for health and for COVID-19 : a review of development assistance, government, out-of-pocket, and other private spending on health for 204 countries and territories, 1990-2050
Background The rapid spread of COVID-19 renewed the focus on how health systems across the globe are financed, especially during public health emergencies. Development assistance is an important source of health financing in many low-income countries, yet little is known about how much of this funding was disbursed for COVID-19. We aimed to put development assistance for health for COVID-19 in the context of broader trends in global health financing, and to estimate total health spending from 1995 to 2050 and development assistance for COVID-19 in 2020. Methods We estimated domestic health spending and development assistance for health to generate total health-sector spending estimates for 204 countries and territories. We leveraged data from the WHO Global Health Expenditure Database to produce estimates of domestic health spending. To generate estimates for development assistance for health, we relied on project-level disbursement data from the major international development agencies' online databases and annual financial statements and reports for information on income sources. To adjust our estimates for 2020 to include disbursements related to COVID-19, we extracted project data on commitments and disbursements from a broader set of databases (because not all of the data sources used to estimate the historical series extend to 2020), including the UN Office of Humanitarian Assistance Financial Tracking Service and the International Aid Transparency Initiative. We reported all the historic and future spending estimates in inflation-adjusted 2020 US per capita, purchasing-power parity-adjusted US8. 8 trillion (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 8.7-8.8) or 40.4 billion (0.5%, 95% UI 0.5-0.5) was development assistance for health provided to low-income and middle-income countries, which made up 24.6% (UI 24.0-25.1) of total spending in low-income countries. We estimate that 13.7 billion was targeted toward the COVID-19 health response. 1.4 billion was repurposed from existing health projects. 2.4 billion (17.9%) was for supply chain and logistics. Only 1519 (1448-1591) per person in 2050, although spending across countries is expected to remain varied. Interpretation Global health spending is expected to continue to grow, but remain unequally distributed between countries. We estimate that development organisations substantially increased the amount of development assistance for health provided in 2020. Continued efforts are needed to raise sufficient resources to mitigate the pandemic for the most vulnerable, and to help curtail the pandemic for all. Copyright (C) 2021 The Author(s). PERFORMANCE OF YIELD AND YIELD CONTRIBUTING CHARACTERISTICS OF BC2F3 POPULATION WITH ADDITION OF BLAST RESISTANT GENE
ABSTRACTThe study was carried out in the University Putra Malaysia (UPM) Rice Research Centre to evaluate the yield performance of newly developed selected blast resistant plants of BC2F3 generations derived from a cross between MR263, a high yielding rice variety but blast susceptible and Pongsu Seribu 1, donor with blast resistant (Pi-7(t)and Pi-d (t)1, Pir2-3(t)genes and qLN2 QTL), Malaysian local variety. On the basis of assessed traits, the plants 12, 6, 7, 5, 21, 22, 5, 26, 11, 8, 10, 13 and 15 had the higher yield, blast resistant and good morphological traits. More than 70% heritability was found in days to maturity, plant height, tiller numbers per hill, and panicle per hill, 80% heritability was found in filled grain and yield per hill and more than 90% heritability was found in grain length, grain width and seed weight. Cluster analysis based on the traits grouped 30 plants along with MR263 into seven clusters. According to PCA, the first four principal components account for about 69.3% total variation for all measured traits and exhibited high correlation among the characteristics analyzed
