Building quests for online games with virtual institutions
Abstract. This document describes how to re-purpose an existing agent technology called Virtual Institutions as a mechanism to define new "quest" elements in Massively Multiplayer Online Games based on MultiAgent Systems. Quests are a very important part of most Massive Online Games as they wield to flow and narrative of the game in a linear or nonlinear manner
Correlated response to selection for litter size environmental variability in rabbits' resilience
[EN] Resilience is the ability of an animal to return soon to its initial productivity after facing diverse environmental challenges. This trait is directly related to animal welfare and it plays a key role in fluctuations of livestock productivity. A divergent selection experiment for environmental variance of litter size has been performed successfully in rabbits over ten generations. The objective of this study was to analyse resilience indicators of stress and disease in the divergent lines of this experiment. The high line showed a lower survival rate at birth than the low line (-4.1%). After correcting by litter size, the difference was -3.2%. Involuntary culling rate was higher in the high than in the low line (+12.4%). Before vaccination against viral haemorrhagic disease or myxomatosis, concentration of lymphocytes, C-reactive protein (CRP), complement C3, serum bilirubin, triglycerides and cholesterol were higher in the high line than in the low line (difference between lines +4.5%, +5.6 mu g/ml, +4.6 mg/ml, +7.9 mmol/l, +0.3 mmol/l and +0.4 mmol/l). Immunological and biochemical responses to the two vaccines were similar. After vaccination, the percentage of lymphocytes and CRP concentration were higher in the low line than in the high one (difference between lines +4.0% and +13.1 mu g/ml). The low line also showed a higher increment in bilirubin and triglycerides than the high line (+14.2 v. +8.7 mmol/l for bilirubin and +0.11 v. +0.01 mmol/l for triglycerides); these results would agree with the protective role of bilirubin and triglycerides against the larger inflammatory response found in this line. In relation to stress, the high line had higher basal concentration of cortisol than the low line (+0.2ng/ml); the difference between lines increased more than threefold after the injection of ACTH 1 to 24, the increase being greater in the high line (+0.9 ng/ml) than in the low line (+0.4 ng/ml). Selection for divergent environmental variability of litter size leads to dams with different culling rate for reproductive causes and different kits' neonatal survival. Designing normative open virtual enterprises

the globalisation of the economy, the rapid growth of information technologies and the
increase of competitiveness. In this paper we deal with the development of normative
open virtual enterprises (NOVEs). They are systems with a global objective that are
composed of a set of heterogeneous entities and enterprises that exchange services
following a specific normative context. In order to analyse and design systems of this
kind the multi-agent paradigm seems suitable because it offers a specific solution for
supporting the social and contractual relationships between enterprises and for formalising
their business processes. This paper presents how the Regulated Open Multiagent
systems (ROMAS) methodology, an agent-oriented software methodology, can
be used to analyse and design NOVEs. ROMAS offers a complete development
process that allows identifying and formalising of the structure of NOVEs, their
normative context and the interactions among their members. The use of ROMAS is

Genetic selection for ovulation rate and litter size in rabbits: estimation of genetic parameters and direct and correlated responses
The aim of this work was to estimate direct and correlated responses in survival rates in an experiment of selection for ovulation rate (OR) and litter size (LS) in a line of rabbits (OR_LS). From generation 0 to 6 (first selection period), females were selected only for second gestation OR estimated by laparoscopy. From generation 7 to 13 (second selection period), a 2-stage selection for OR and LS was performed. In stage 1, females having the greatest OR at second gestation were selected. In stage 2, selection was for the greatest average LS of the first 2 parities of the females selected in stage 1. Total selection pressure in females was about 30%. The line had approximately 17 males and 75 females per generation. Traits recorded were OR estimated as the number of corpora lutea in both ovaries, number of implanted embryos (IE) estimated as the number of implantation sites, LS estimated as total number of rabbits born recorded at each parity, embryo survival (ES) estimated as IE/OR, fetal survival (FS) estimated as LS/IE, and prenatal survival (PS) estimated as LS/OR. Data were analyzed using Bayesian methodology. The estimated heritabilities of LS, OR, IE, ES, FS, and PS were 0.07, 0.21, 0.10, 0.07, 0.12, and 0.16, respectively. Direct and correlated responses from this study were estimated in each period of selection as the difference between the average genetic values of last and first generation. In the first selection period, OR increased 1.36 ova, but no correlated response was observed in LS due to a decrease on FS. Correlated responses for IE, ES, FS, and PS in the first selection period were 1.11, 0.00, -0.04, and -0.01, respectively. After 7 generations of 2-stage selection for OR and LS, OR increased 1.0 ova and response in LS was 0.9 kits. Correlated responses for IE, ES, FS, and PS in the second selection period were 1.14, 0.02, 0.02, and 0.07, respectively. A flexible coupling approach to multi-agent planning under incomplete information

coupled problems, being ineffective to deal with more complex, strongly related problems.
In most cases, agents work under complete information, building complete knowledge
bases. The present article introduces a general-purpose MAP framework designed to tackle
problems of any coupling levels under incomplete information. Agents in our MAP model
are partially unaware of the information managed by the rest of agents and share only the critical
information that affects other agents, thus maintaining a distributed vision of the task.
Agents solve MAP tasks through the adoption of an iterative refinement planning procedure
that uses single-agent planning technology. In particular, agents will devise refinements
through the partial-order planning paradigm, a flexible framework to build refinement plans
leaving unsolved details that will be gradually completed by means of new refinements. Our
proposal is supported with the implementation of a fully operative MAP system and we show
various experiments when running our system over different types of MAP problems, from

Foro de debate: seguridad de las alternativas a la transfusión alogénica en el paciente quirúrgico y/o crítico
Estos últimos años han aparecido alertas de seguridad, no siempre bien sustentadas, que cuestionan el uso de algunas alternativas farmacológicas a la transfusión de sangre alogénica y/o lo restringen en indicaciones establecidas. Asistimos también a la preconización de otras alternativas, incluyendo productos hemáticos y fármacos antifibrinolíticos, sin que haya una base científica sólida que lo justifique. Por iniciativa del Grupo de Estudios Multidisciplinares sobre Autotransfusión y del Anemia Working Group Espana¿ se reunió a un panel multidisciplinar de 23 expertos del área de cuidados de la salud en un foro de debate para: 1) analizar las diferentes alertas de seguridad en torno a ciertas alternativas a la transfusión; 2) estudiar los antecedentes que las han propiciado, la evidencia que las sustentan y las consecuencias que conllevan para la práctica clínica, y 3) emitir una valoración argumentada de la seguridad de cada alternativa a la transfusión cuestionada, según el uso clínico de la misma. Los integrantes del foro mantuvieron contactos por vía telemática y una reunión presencial en la que presentaron y discutieron las conclusiones sobre cada uno de los elementos examinados. Se elaboró un primer documento que fue sometido a 4 rondas de revisión y actualización hasta alcanzar un consenso, unánime en la mayoría de los casos. La transfusión de sangre alogénica (TSA) no es inocua, y como consecuencia han surgido múltiples alternativas a la misma (ATSA). Existe variabilidad respecto a las indicaciones y buen uso de las ATSA. Dependiendo de la especialidad de los médicos que tratan a los pacientes, el grado de anemia, la política transfusional, la disponibilidad de las ATSA y el criterio personal, estas se usan de forma variable. Puesto que las ATSA tampoco son inocuas y pueden no cumplir criterios de coste-efectividad, la variabilidad en su uso es inaceptable. Las sociedades españolas de Anestesiología y Reanimación (SEDAR), Hematología y Hemoterapia (SEHH), Farmacia Hospitalaria (SEFH), Medicina Intensiva y Unidades Coronarias (SEMICYUC), Trombosis y Hemostasia (SETH) y Transfusiones Sanguíneas (SETS) han elaborado un documento de consenso para el buen uso de la ATSA. Un panel de expertos de las 6 sociedades ha llevado a cabo una revisión sistemática de la literatura médica y elaborado el 2013. Documento Sevilla de Consenso sobre Alternativas a la Transfusión de Sangre Alogénica. Solo se contempla las ATSA dirigidas a disminuir la transfusión de concentrado de hematíes. Se definen las ATSA como toda medida farmacológica y no farmacológica encaminada a disminuir la transfusión de concentrado de hematíes, preservando siempre la seguridad del paciente. La cuestión principal que se plantea en cada ítem se formula, en forma positiva o negativa, como: «La ATSA en cuestión reduce/no reduce la tasa transfusional». Para formular el grado de recomendación se ha usado la metodología Grades of Recommendation Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE)
miR-16 and miR-21 Expression in the Placenta Is Associated with Fetal Growth
BACKGROUND: Novel research has suggested that altered miRNA expression in the placenta is associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes and with potentially harmful xenobiotic exposures. We hypothesized that aberrant expression of miRNA in the placenta is associated with fetal growth, a measurable phenotype resulting from a number of intrauterine factors, and one which is significantly predictive of later life outcomes. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: We analyzed 107 primary, term, human placentas for expression of 6 miRNA reported to be expressed in the placenta and to regulate cell growth and development pathways: miR-16, miR-21, miR-93, miR-135b, miR-146a, and miR-182. The expression of miR-16 and miR-21 was markedly reduced in infants with the lowest birthweights (p<0.05). Logistic regression models suggested that low expression of miR-16 in the placenta predicts an over 4-fold increased odds of small for gestational age (SGA) status (p = 0.009, 95% CI = 1.42, 12.05). Moreover, having both low miR-16 and low miR-21 expression in the placenta predicts a greater increase in odds for SGA than having just low miR-16 or miR-21 expression (p<0.02), suggesting an additive effect of both of these miRNA. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: Our study is one of the first to investigate placental miRNA expression profiles associated with birthweight and SGA status. Future research on miRNA whose expression is associated with in utero exposures and markers of fetal growth is essential for better understanding the epigenetic mechanisms underlying the developmental origins of health and disease
IMPROVE 2022 International Meeting on Pathway‐Related Obesity: Vision of Excellence
Nearly 90 clinicians and researchers from around the world attended the first IMPROVE 2022 International Meeting on Pathway-Related Obesity. Delegates attended in person or online from across Europe, Argentina and Israel to hear the latest scientific and clinical developments in hyperphagia and severe, early-onset obesity, and set out a vision of excellence for the future for improving the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients with melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) pathway-related obesity. The meeting co-chair Peter Kühnen, Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany, indicated that change was needed with the rapidly increasing prevalence of obesity and the associated complications to improve the understanding of the underlying mechanisms and acknowledge that monogenic forms of obesity can play an important role, providing insights that can be applied to a wider group of patients with obesity. World-leading experts presented the latest research and led discussions on the underlying science of obesity, diagnosis (including clinical and genetic approaches such as the role of defective MC4R signalling), and emerging clinical data and research with targeted pharmacological approaches. The aim of the meeting was to agree on the questions that needed to be addressed in future research and to ensure that optimised diagnostic work-up was used with new genetic testing tools becoming available.
