Journalism and credibility: A perception of the public

A credibilidade é um dos fatores que permitem que o jornalismo exerça uma função social dentro de uma democracia, no entanto nos últimos anos a ideia de uma crise jornalística generalizada tem ganhado força entre profissionais e público. Com base nesse cenário, buscamos realizar uma pesquisa qualitativa que apontasse de qual forma o leitor se relaciona com as notícias e com os meios de comunicação aos quais têm acesso no que diz respeito à credibilidade e à confiança, elementos essenciais para garantir uma real função social à essa prática profissional. Dessa forma, traçamos quais são os critérios objetivos mais importantes para o público na atribuição da credibilidade e buscamos comparar os resultados com os critérios de qualidade indicados pelos profissionais de jornalismo como indicação de um trabalho credível. Como resultado, é possível observar que, apesar dos padrões estarem alinhados, há uma disparidade entre aquilo que seria ideal para os dois pólos comunicacionais e aquilo que o público percebe nos produtos aos quais tem acesso em seu dia a dia e com base no que, consequentemente, atribui credibilidade aos materiais jornalísticos. Essa distância pode ser parcialmente explicada com base na ideia de que a confiança e a credibilidade são elementos que contam, em sua atribuição, com muitos critérios subjetivos, mas também levanta a questão da qualidade da conexão e do diálogo entre os polos comunicacionais que constituem o jornalismo.Credibility is one of the factors that allow journalism to play a social role within a democracy, however in recent years the idea of a generalized journalistic crisis has gained strength among professionals and the public. Based on this scenario, we seek to carry out a qualitative research that points out how the reader relates to the news and the media to which they have access with regard to credibility and trust, essential elements to guarantee a real social role to this professional practice. That way, we outline the most important objective criteria for the public in the attribution of credibility and seek to compare the results with the quality criteria indicated by journalism professionals as an indication of credible work. As a result, it is possible to observe that, although the patterns are aligned, there is a disparity between what would be ideal for the two communicational poles and what the public perceives in the products to which they have access and based on what, consequently, it attributes credibility to journalistic materials. This distance can be partially explained on the basis of the idea that trust and credibility are elements that count with many subjective criteria, but also raises the question of the quality of the connection and the dialogue between the communicational poles that constitute journalism

Ensaios sobre cantos, portfolio of musical compositions influenced by traditional music from the Azores

The current thesis is a portfolio of ten musical works composed during the period of 2011 and 2015, including instrumental, mixed media and acousmatic (stereo and multichannel) compositions. These works were developed and composed at my home studio in Oporto (from 2011) and at the Electroacoustic Music Studios at the University of Birmingham (2014 – 2015). This thesis also features observations and commentaries about technical and aesthetical issues that were objects of study during my creative process, which uses musical elements from my culture as inspiration for new musical works. Hence, it presents a reflection on and the validation of results that came from the exploration of several procedures during my development at the University of Birmingham Electroacoustic Music Studios and a chapter dedicated to the traditional instrument from the Azores – the viola da terra – and the two compositions that focus on this instrument. Notas sobre a obra A Pátria (1919), de Pedro Bruno

This article will focus on an unequivocal national symbol, namely the republican Brazilian flag, which was designed by Décio Villares and reproduced by an academic painter along the first half of the twentieth century. The departing point of our reflection is a work entitled A Pátria, an oil on canvas, painted in 1919 by Pedro Bruno and exposed at the permanent exhibition of Museu da República, in Rio de Janeiro. We will begin by reporting the socio- historical circumstances at the first Brazilian republican times that have witnessed the symbolic battles over the adoption of a markedly positivist national flag. The painting A Pátria will be approached in its double aspect of both an iconic sign, related to the mimetic representation of the world, and also a museological one, headed to mnemonic consecration. A formal analysis of the painting will essay to respond our major point which writes: to what extent representations of the nation, built by a few Brazil interpreters, are explicited or forgotten in this very iconographic discourse? Or, in other words, are there agreements or disagreements between traditional word narrators and this particular image narrator?Este artigo tratará de um símbolo nacional inequívoco, a bandeira republicana brasileira, desenhada por Décio Villares e retratada por um pintor acadêmico da primeira metade do século 20. O ponto de partida de nossa reflexão será a obra A Pátria, composição em óleo sobre tela, pintada em 1919 por Pedro Bruno e exposta na mostra permanente do Museu da República, no Rio de Janeiro. Começaremos por reportar as circunstâncias sócio- históricas que, no início da República, testemunharam as batalhas simbólicas a respeito da adoção de uma bandeira nacional francamente positivista. O quadro A Pátria será abordado na sua dupla condição de signo icônico, vinculado à representação mimética do mundo, e de signo museológico, orientado para a consagração mnemônica. Uma análise formal da obra buscará responder à nossa pergunta maior: em que medida as representações da nação, construídas por alguns intérpretes do Brasil, são explicitadas ou esquecidas pelo discurso iconográfico em questão? Ou, dito de outro modo: haverá correspondências ou discordâncias entre os tradicionais narradores da palavra e este narrador da imagem em particular

A Revista Ciência em Extensão (RCE) publicação da Pró-Reitoria de Extensão Universitária - PROEX, da Universidade Estadual Paulista "Júlio de Mesquita Filho" - UNESP, disponibiliza ao público um forte veículo de informações acadêmicas sobre projetos, atividades e publicações de experiências extensionistas colaborando com o fortalecimento da extensão universitária na universidade.Com o intuito de contemplar o seu público alvo, a partir do próximo número de 2011, a RCE abrirá espaço na Seção Resumos de Dissertações e Teses para a publicação de Monografias e Trabalhos de Conclusão de Curso (TCC) em nível de Graduação e Pós-Graduação Lato Sensu, defendidas junto aos respectivos cursos e programas, cujos temas estão relacionados à extensão universitária. Essa mudança decorre principalmente dos inúmeros projetos de extensão universitária que possibilitam aos graduandos e pós-graduandos a realização de seus projetos de pesquisa de conclusão de curso a partir da realização de projetos de extensão universitária.Neste ano outro desafio é colocado à Revista Ciência em Extensão no que diz respeito à periodicidade passando a ter três números anuais. Com essa conduta a RCE se fortalece podendo ser avaliada por outros índices de validação científica.No primeiro número de 2011 apresentamos oito artigos científicos, quatro relatos de experiência extensionista e cinco resumos de congresso

Antioxidant system of ginseng under stress by cadmium

Toxic levels of Cd can cause protein denaturation and oxidative stress, which result in membrane damage, enzimatic activity changes and other metabolic damage. Some plants may show alteration in the activity of their antioxidant enzymes as a heavy metal tolerance mechanism. This study aims at evaluating the role of enzymes of the antioxidant system in adaptive responses of the accumulator P. glomerata species to levels of cadmium (Cd). Plants were cultivated in nutrient solutions containing concentrations of Cd in the form of CdSO4 (0, 45 and 90 µmol L-1), for 20 d. Cd concentrations and yields of root and shoot dry matter were determined at the end of the experiment. Malondialdehyde (MDA) production and the activities of antioxidant enzymes were determined after days 1, 12 and 20. Higher Cd concentrations in tissues of P. glomerata were found to reduce biomass production in both roots and shoots. The lipid peroxidation rates in leaves and roots were smaller at the start of the experiment for all Cd levels. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity increased in leaves on day 1 and in roots on day 20 as Cd levels increased. Cd stress induced an increase in the activity of APX in leaves, whereas in roots ascorbate peroxidase (APX) activity was reduced at high concentration of Cd. At the end of the experiment, catalase (CAT) activity in leaves was reduced as Cd concentration increased. Nevertheless, the glutathione reductase (GR) and guaiacol peroxidase (GPX) activities increased. In roots, GR activity was reduced on days 1 and 20

Das Korpus des Projekts "Mischphänomene zwischen Dialekt und Standardsprache in der Deutschschweizer Diglossie". Über die Schwierigkeit, selten vorkommende Phänomene zu dokumentieren

An ongoing research project at the University of Fribourg/Freiburg (Switzerland) investigates relatively infrequent forms of usage of the dialect and the standard variety of a language. The project focuses on verbal realisations in which both varieties exist side by side but which do not constitute cases of code-switching in the traditional sense; that is, the code changes do not serve a local pragmatic function and/or their salience has diminished as a result of their high frequency of occurrence. Furthermore, the mixing occurs at conspicuous syntactic positions, and the transferred linguistic elements do not rank among the typical resources for code-switching. Moreover, the resulting realisations – if decontextualised – may tend to be judged as impermissible by autochthonous speakers. Such phenomena are unexpected in Swiss German diglossia and contradict not only lay conceptions but also an assumption underlying many scientific investigations which states that speakers of Swiss German keep the two varieties strictly distinct in their usage. This contribution will shed light on several aspects of corpus design, with a special focus on the difficulties involved in compiling a corpus for the documentation of rare phenomena

No setor varejista observa-se a reestruturação de empresas de vários segmentos, tendo por objetivo ajustar e adequar as companhias ao cenário de competição mais acirrada, decorrente principalmente das conhecidas transformações da economia brasileira operadas no início da década corrente. A disputa pelo consumidor tem levado a mudanças de estratégias, ampliando a atuação de diferentes tipos de lojas e modificando o perfil varejista. Não há, no entanto, um formato ideal de varejo, sendo a melhor alternativa aquela de buscar a maior eficiência do negócio escolhido

EDUCAÇÃO AMBIENTAL NO ENSINO FORMAL: ESTUDO DE CASO

Objetivou-se neste estudoverificar a questão da educação ambiental trabalhada no ensino formal doprimeiro e último período do curso de Licenciatura em Química do Instituto Federal de Goiás– Inhumas- GO. Trata-se de um estudo de caso decaráter qualitativo exploratório e descritivo. O instrumento utilizado nacoleta de dados foi um questionário de natureza qualitativa contendo questõesabordadas sobre o conceito de meio ambiente e trabalhos em educação ambiental realizadospela instituição. A analise das respostas foram fundamentada considerando oconhecimento dos acadêmicos baseado nas informações repassadas pela Instituiçãode Ensino sobre a educação ambiental. Quando questionados sobre o conceito de educaçãoambiental os egressos devem ser trabalhados de forma a adquiririnformações mais especifica sobre o meio ambiente, e os discentes do últimosemestre não tiveram conhecimentos plenos sobre o tema. Os projetos de educaçãoambiental devem levar em consideração os problemas ambientais específicos decada região e as suas implicações econômicas, ecológicas, éticas, culturais esociais a nível planetário
