“aquilo que é comum a todos nós”: Karl Ove Knausgaard como leitor de Joyce

In his monumental autobiographical series of novels My Struggle, acclaimed Norwegian novelist Karl Ove Knausgaard devotes a considerable number of pages to discuss James Joyce’s fictional works. In the last volume of the series – The End –, practically the entire body of Joyce’s fiction – from early works such as Stephen Hero and Dubliners to the modernist masterpieces Ulysses and Finnegans Wake – is included in a discussion on the Irish novelist’s literature. Only one among Joyce’s major works is not tackled by Knausgaard in The End: A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. Nonetheless, it is precisely Knausgaard who writes the preface to a celebrated Centennial edition of Joyce’s first novel in which, amidst other topics, he ponders over what he understands to be “the very essence of literature.” The article aims at highlighting some key aspects of Knausgaard’s take on Joyce’s fictional output and provide enough evidence to support the hypothesis that the Norwegian writer’s conceptualization of the literary phenomenon, including Joyce’s work, is based upon questionable essentialist premises.Em sua monumental série de romances autobiográficos Minha luta, o aclamado romancista norueguês Karl Ove Knausgaard dedica um número considerável de páginas para discutir as obras ficcionais de James Joyce. No último volume da série – O fim –, praticamente toda a ficção de Joyce – de primeiras obras, como Stephen herói e Dublinenses, a obras-primas modernistas, como Ulysses e Finnegans Rivolta – é incluída em uma discussão sobre a literatura do romancista irlandês. JAMAICA KINCAID – A SUBVERSIVE FALLEN ANGEL

Caribbean novelist Jamaica Kincaid’s Lucy is an emblematic sample of the so-called post-colonial and/or diasporic literature. The markedly autobiographical narrative of Lucy, which was originally published in 1990, is based on its protagonist’s account of her adapting to life in The United States after moving from The Caribbean. In The United States the protagonist deals with a series of difficulties when trying to settle down, while she faces questions of gender, ethnicity, class, and of her own identity. It is possible to argue that in Lucy Jamaica Kincaid has made a consciously subversive attempt to associate the protagonist’s identity to that of English poet John Milton’s Lucifer, from Paradise Lost. Narrative strategies used by Kincaid in order to associate the character Lucy with Miltonian Lucifer may serve as excellent examples of the subversive use post-colonial and/or diasporic literature makes of canonical literary texts in order to discuss identitary questions

A influência da orientação empreendedora dos gestores de projetos na intenção de adotar plataformas de crowdsourcing innovation

This study aimed to explore how the individual entrepreneurial orientation affect the intention of adopting crowdsourcing innovation platforms. Through a survey applied to 395 managers of innovation projects by oil companies of global action. The phenomenon analyzed in the light of the theory of planned behavior using the structural equation modeling by the method of least squares. WE proposed a theoretical model considering the theory of individual entrepreneurial orientation and the constructs of TPB. The results reveal that the entrepreneurial orientation managers have strong influence on decision on the adoption of crowdsourcing innovation platforms. The study innovates by proposing a theoretical model able to help other researchers to predict attitudes that be changed so that it can produce changes in the intentions of the subjects.- (undefined

Performance of Brazillian government juridical library websites

O artigo descreve o desempenho funcional de 38 sites de bibliotecas jurídicas do governo brasileiro, incluindo Senado Federal, Câmara dos Deputados, Assembleia Legislativa, Ministério Público e Tribunais. A lista de verificação foi utilizado para verificar seis categorias de funções: informativa, promocional, educacional, referencial, de pesquisa e de comunicação. Os resultados ressaltam diferentes níveis de desempenho: função de informação destaca como o melhor intérprete, enquanto a função de comunicação alcançou uma pontuação baixa. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe paper describes the functional performance of 38 websites of Brazilian government law libraries, including those of the Federal Senate, the Chamber of Deputies, the Legislative Assembly, Public Ministries and Courts. A checklist was used to verify six categories of functions: informational, promotional, educational, referential, research and communication. Translation initiation at non-AUG codons mediated by weakened association of eukaryotic initiation factor (eIF) 2 subunits

The heterotrimeric eukaryotic initiation factor (eIF) 2 binds the initiator methionyl-tRNA in a GTP-dependent mode and delivers it to the 40 S ribosomal subunit. in the present study, we have identified amino acid residues in eIF2beta required for binding to eIF2gamma in yeast. Alteration of six residues in the central region of eIF2beta abolished this interaction, as determined by GST-pull down and two-hybrid assays, and leads to cell lethality. Substitution of (131)Tyr and (132)Ser by alanine residues ((YS)-Y-131), although abolishing the binding to eIF2gamma in these assays, resulted in a functional but defective protein in vivo, imparting a temperature-sensitive growth phenotype to cells. A dramatically weakened association of this mutant protein with eIF2gamma in vivo was shown by co-immunoprecipitation. the (YS)-Y-131 mutation in eIF2beta allows translation to initiate at non-AUG codons, as defined by the ability of cells carrying an initiator codon mutation in the HIS4 mRNA to grow in the absence of histidine. the combination of this mutation with the (254)Ser --> Tyr alteration, a previously isolated suppressor of initiator codon mutations which has been shown to increase the spontaneous GTP hydrolysis in the ternary complex, caused a recessive lethality, suggesting additive defects. Variation and changes in soccer players’ names of Brazilian National soccer team-TRAD-

This paper presents an analysis of official and unofficial anthroponyms of soccer players from the Brazilian National team from 1958 to 2018. The theoretical framework is based on both onomastic studies, such as Amaral (2011), Amaral e Seide (2020), Bajo Pérez (2002), Becker (2012), Fernández Leborans (1999), Urrutia and Sánchez (2009), Van Langendonck (2007), Fernández Leborans (1999) and on analyses about Brazilian soccer studies such as Rodrigues (2010) and Caetano and Rodrigues (2009). The data analyzed are the players’ names on the lists selected to compete World Cup in that period. These names are classified in order to observe variation and change over time. The results indicate a predominance of official names in almost every year as well as a greater contemporary trend towards more formal name variants.

Geração automática de playlists: entendendo as percepções e expectativas de criadores humanos.

Uma playlist pode ser definida como qualquer sequência de músicas para ser executada tipicamente de forma ordenada sem que seja necessário ao usuário ter que selecionar individualmente as músicas enquanto elas vão sendo tocadas. Muitos softwares são capazes de montar playlists de forma automática baseando-se nos mais diversos modelos, sendo este um aspecto muito importante de aplicações como Last.fm, Deezer, Spotify, etc. Muitos pesquisadores na área de Recuperação de Informação Musical (MIR) têm dedicado esforços no desenvolvimento de modelos geradores cada vez melhores,entretanto as atuai sformas de validação são reconhecidamente ineficientes e métodos considerados padrão possuem graves limitações. Neste trabalho, investigamos as percepções de DJs (pessoas que criam playlists para discotecagem em festas) sobre playlists automaticamente geradas por dois modelos diferentes, focando nas características relacionadas à criação de playlists identificadas nas amostras apresentadas, nas expectativas em relação a playlists geradas automaticamente em contraponto às criadas por outras pessoas e se e de qual forma percebe-se diferenças entre os itens criados pelos diferentes geradores. Foi realizada uma pesquisa qualitativa onde DJs de diversas localidades participaram de in-depth interviews. Foram colhidos relatos de experiências relacionadas à criação de playlists para discotecagem ou outras ocasiões, do uso desoftwares paraedição, execução e geração de playlists e dos hábitos de consumo de playlists. Entrevistados foram também apresentados a amostras de playlists de dois geradores e suas impressões foram colhidas. Concluímos que, ainda que de forma não explícita, os entrevistados conseguiram caracterizar e dar contexto aos diferentes geradores. Além disso playlists são percebidas como mais humanas quando eles conseguem identificar uma única motivação forte, uma única temática que norteia o agrupamento e encadeamento de músicas e que playlists menos homogêneas não são necessariamente percebidas como playlists ruins e são muitas vezes entendidas como surpresas positivas.Cape

Após a rejeição das Medidas Provisórias nºs. 293 e 294 de 9 de maio de 2006, o problema do reconhecimento das Centrais Sindicais permaneceu latente, vindo a aflorar agora por meio de uma lei ordinária, editada em 31 de março de 2008, a Lei nº 11.648 que concretizou o anseio das Centrais em obter o seu reconhecimento formal como entidade de representação geral dos trabalhadores
