    Um estudo sobre constelações criadas por alunos do ensino fundamental

Esses padrões seriam as constelações, que são agrupamentos arbitrários de estrelas, que as várias civilizações e povos foram construindo ao longo da História. A presente pesquisa teve como objetivo conhecer as concepções que alunos do 6º ano do ensino fundamental constroem sobre constelações criadas por eles mesmos a partir do jogo Construindo Constelações. A metodologia utilizada teve abordagem qualitativa porque buscou conhecer concepções de constelações construídas por alunos. A pesquisa evidenciou que nem todos os alunos possuíam uma concepção de constelação como conjuntos arbitrários de estrelas; a maioria dos alunos entendem constelação como conjunto de estrelas, podendo ser dinâmica ou estática os demais alunos entendem constelação como céu ou como uma única estrela. ______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe human eye ever saw patterns among the stars. These standards would be the constellations, which are arbitrary groupings of stars, the various civilizations and peoples have been building throughout history. This research aimed to identify the concepts that students in the 6th grade of elementary school building on constellations created by them from the game Building Constellations. The methodology was qualitative approach sought to know why conceptions of constellations constructed by students. The research showed that not all students had a conception of the constellation as arbitrary sets of stars; most students understand how whole constellation of stars, which can be dynamic or static the other students understand constellation as heaven or as a single star

    Grassroots Roma women organizing for social change : a study of the impact of 'Roma women student gatherings'

    This investigation complies with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU, and resolution P7_TA 0312 of 9 September 2010, of the European Parliament on the Situation of the Roma People and Free Movement in the European Union [44,45]. To protect the participants' identities and personal data, pseudonyms have been used. Consent forms with detailed information about the study and an explanation that they have the right to withdraw from it at any time were provided to all the persons participating in the research.Scientific literature has focused on the constraints that Roma women have faced to overcome the racism and inequalities that they and the Roma people as a whole have suffered. However, less attention has been paid to how Roma women organize to challenge this reality. Drawing on a qualitative case study about the Roma Association of Women Drom Kotar Mestipen (Barcelona) and specifically on the analysis of one of its activities, the 'Roma women student gatherings' (known as 'Trobades' in Catalan), this article contributes evidence to show how Roma women are fighting to improve their own living conditions and those of their people by organizing at the grassroots level. The communicative analysis reveals the impacts that these gatherings have on the individual and societal levels. First, the gatherings have impacts on the individual level, as many of the women who participate in them are exposed to and embrace new educational projects, thus acquiring more skills to be better prepared to later access the labor market. Second, their impact is also evidenced on the societal level, as the gatherings enhance Roma women's associational life, resulting in new mobilizations and often making women who were once in the shadows become community leaders

    Arfgef1 haploinsufficiency in mice alters neuronal endosome composition and decreases membrane surface postsynaptic GABAA receptors

    ARFGEF1 encodes a guanine exchange factor involved in intracellular vesicle trafficking, and is a candidate gene for childhood genetic epilepsies. To model ARFGEF1 haploinsufficiency observed in a recent Lennox Gastaut Syndrome patient, we studied a frameshift mutation (Arfgef1fs) in mice. Arfgef1fs/+ pups exhibit signs of developmental delay, and Arfgef1fs/+ adults have a significantly decreased threshold to induced seizures but do not experience spontaneous seizures. Histologically, the Arfgef1fs/+ brain exhibits a disruption in the apical lining of the dentate gyrus and altered spine morphology of deep layer neurons. In primary hippocampal neuron culture, dendritic surface and synaptic but not total GABAA receptors (GABAAR) are reduced in Arfgef1fs/+ neurons with an accompanying decrease in the number of GABAAR-containing recycling endosomes in cell body. Arfgef1fs/+ neurons also display differences in the relative ratio of Arf6+:Rab11+:TrfR+ recycling endosomes. Although the GABAAR-containing early endosomes in Arfgef1fs/+ neurons are comparable to wildtype, Arfgef1fs/+ neurons show an increase in the number of GABAAR-containing lysosomes in dendrite and cell body. Together, the altered endosome composition and decreased neuronal surface GABAAR results suggests a mechanism whereby impaired neuronal inhibition leads to seizure susceptibility

    The invisible feminist action of Roma families

    In this article, we present the results of a study that analyses the role of Roma families (especially illiterate mothers and grandmothers) in the paths of academic success of Roma women (hereinafter, the Romí). Actually, a biased view of Roma culture as a reproducer of gender inequality still prevails, which is assumed to be higher among the Roma than in other cultures. In recent years, the scientific literature has shown that there are Romí who are key agents in the transformation of gender relations. A stereotypical perception exists that tends to hierarchically classify cultures (or communities) based on their apparent greater or lesser gender inequality that is thus overcome, which opens a feminist vision that identifies the transforming role of the Romí. This research concludes that family support in academic careers is a way of transforming gender relations within the Roma community

    Pharmacological and Genetic Modulation of REV-ERB Activity and Expression Affects Orexigenic Gene Expression

    The nuclear receptors REV-ERBα and REV-ERBβ are transcription factors that play pivotal roles in the regulation of the circadian rhythm and various metabolic processes. The circadian rhythm is an endogenous mechanism, which generates entrainable biological changes that follow a 24-hour period. It regulates a number of physiological processes, including sleep/wakeful cycles and feeding behaviors. We recently demonstrated that REV-ERB-specific small molecules affect sleep and anxiety. The orexinergic system also plays a significant role in mammalian physiology and behavior, including the regulation of sleep and food intake. Importantly, orexin genes are expressed in a circadian manner. Given these overlaps in function and circadian expression, we wanted to determine whether the REV-ERBs might regulate orexin. We found that acute in vivo modulation of REV-ERB activity, with the REV-ERB-specific synthetic ligand SR9009, affects the circadian expression of orexinergic genes in mice. Long term dosing with SR9009 also suppresses orexinergic gene expression in mice. Finally, REV-ERBβ-deficient mice present with increased orexinergic transcripts. These data suggest that the REV-ERBs may be involved in the repression of orexinergic gene expression

    Distinct roles for REV-ERBα and REV-ERBβ in oxidative capacity and mitochondrial biogenesis in skeletal muscle.

    The nuclear receptors REV-ERBα and REV-ERBβ have been demonstrated to be core members of the circadian clock and participate in the regulation of a diverse set of metabolic functions. Due to their overlapping tissue expression patterns and gene expression profiles, REV-ERBβ is thought to be redundant to REV-ERBα. Recent work has highlighted REV-ERBα's role in the regulation of skeletal muscle oxidative capacity and mitochondrial biogenesis. Considering the similarity between the REV-ERBs and the hypothesized overlap in function, we sought to determine whether REV-ERBβ-deficiency presented with a similar skeletal muscle phenotype as REV-ERBα-deficiency. Ectopic overexpression in C2C12 cells demonstrated that REV-ERBβ drives mitochondrial biogenesis and the expression of genes involved in fatty acid oxidation. Intriguingly, knock down of REV-ERBβ in C2C12 cultures also resulted in mitochondrial biogenesis and increased expression of genes involved in fatty acid β-oxidation. To determine whether these effects occurred in vivo, we examined REV-ERBβ-deficient mice and observed a similar increase in expression of genes involved in mitochondrial biogenesis and fatty acid β-oxidation. Consistent with these results, REV-ERBβ-deficient mice exhibited an altered metabolic phenotype compared to wild-type littermate controls when measured by indirect calorimetry. This likely compensated for the increased food consumption that occurred, possibly aiding in the maintenance of their weight over time. Since feeding behaviors are a direct circadian output, this study suggests that REV-ERBβ may have more subtle effects on circadian behaviors than originally identified. Furthermore, these data implicate REV-ERBβ in the control of skeletal muscle metabolism and energy expenditure and suggest that development of REV-ERBα versus REV-ERBβ selective ligands may have therapeutic utility in the treatment of metabolic syndrome

    Este artículo propone una nueva forma de balancear la carga dinámicamente combinando un modelo Fuzzy-Logic en conjunto con el algoritmo distribuido Request for Bids (RB), el trabajo es centrado en el modelo Fuzzy-Logic con el propósito de mejorar el balanceo dinámico de carga en un sistema distribuido a gran escala. El modelo Fuzzy-Logic y RB fueron implementados en una arquitectura para balancear la carga bajo el estándar de CORBA y fueron evaluados contra otras estrategias que son bien conocidas en la literatura usando diferentes métricas de carga y mostramos como bajo ciertas condiciones nuestra estrategia obtiene mejores resultados
