THE AQUEDUCT OF LOS MILLARES: DESCRIPTION AND NEW INVESTIGATIONS

En los años 1892/93 Luis Siret describió la existencia de una fuente, una conducción y un gran depósito de agua en el recinto fortificado de Los Millares. Se presentan los resultados de una prospección geológica, hidrogeológica y arqueológica para el suministro de agua de Los Millares. Para ello, se han revisado y medido todos los hallazgos anteriores y se presentan en una sinopsis. Los estudios por 230Th/U de capas estalagmíticas depositadas en los cimientos de los muros de esta conducción, han proporcionado una prueba arqueométrica de que durante el Cobre Temprano y Medio en este poblado existía una conducción de agua como la descrita por Luis Siret. No se ha podido verificar la localización de la fuente dibujada por Siret. Pero en otro lugar cercano se han tomado muestras de capas estalagmíticas depositadas en un manantial durante la existencia de la fortificación o poco después de que fuera abandonada. In 1892/93 Luis Siret described a spring, a water conduction to and a large water reservoir in the Los Millares fortification. The current results of the geological, hydrogeological and archaeological studies of the water supply of Los Millares are presented. Therefore all previous findings on the water supply were newly recorded and are now presented in a synopsis. 230Th/U investigations of sinter deposits on wall foundations of this water conduction provided archaeometric evidence that within the settlement in the early and the middle Copper Age existed a water conduit, as described by Luis Siret. The location of the source drawn by Siret could not be verified. But at another place nearby sinter deposits of a source were sampled which originated still during the existence or shortly after the fortification was abandoned.&nbsp
