Measured Stark widths of several spectral lines of Pb III
The Stark full widths at half of the maximal line intensity (FWHM, ω) have been measured for 25 spectrallines of PbIII (15 measured for the first time) arising from the 5d106s8s, 5d106s7p, 5d106s5f and 5d106s5g electronic configurations, in a lead plasma produced by ablation with a Nd:YAG laser. The optical emission spectroscopy from a laser-induced plasma generated by a 10 640 Å radiation, with an irradiance of 2 × 1010 W cm− 2 on a lead target (99.99% purity) in an atmosphere of argon was analysed in the wavelength interval between 2000 and 7000 Å. The broadening parameters were obtained with the target placed in argon atmosphere at 6 Torr and 400 ns after each laser light pulse, which provides appropriate measurement conditions. A Boltzmann plot was used to obtain the plasma temperature (21,400 K) and published values of the Starkwidths in Pb I, Pb II and PbIII to obtain the electron number density (7 × 1016 cm− 3); with these values, the plasma composition was determined by means of the Saha equation. Local Thermodynamic Equilibrium (LTE) conditions and plasma homogeneity has been checked. Special attention was dedicated to the possible self-absorption of the different transitions. Comparison of the new results with recent available data is also presented
String equations in Whitham hierarchies: tau-functions and Virasoro constraints
A scheme for solving Whitham hierarchies satisfying a special class of string
equations is presented. The tau-function of the corresponding solutions is
obtained and the differential expressions of the underlying Virasoro
constraints are characterized. Illustrative examples of exact solutions of
Whitham hierarchies are derived and applications to conformal maps dynamics are

On the Whitham hierarchy: dressing scheme, string equations and additional symmetrie
A new description of the universal Whitham hierarchy in terms of a
factorization problem in the Lie group of canonical transformations is
provided. This scheme allows us to give a natural description of dressing
transformations, string equations and additional symmetries for the Whitham
hierarchy. We show how to dress any given solution and prove that any solution
of the hierarchy may be undressed, and therefore comes from a factorization of
a canonical transformation. A particulary important function, related to the
-function, appears as a potential of the hierarchy. We introduce a class
of string equations which extends and contains previous classes of string
equations considered by Krichever and by Takasaki and Takebe. The scheme is
also applied for an convenient derivation of additional symmetries. Moreover,
new functional symmetries of the Zakharov extension of the Benney gas equations
are given and the action of additional symmetries over the potential in terms
of linear PDEs is characterized

A Spectroscopic study of laser-induced Tin-Lead plasma: transition probabilities for spectral lines of Sn I
In this paper, we present transition probabilities for 97 spectral lines of Sn I, corresponding to transitions n(n = 6,7,8)s → 5p2, n(n = 5,6,7)d → 5p2, 5p3 → 5p2, n(n = 7)p → 6s, determined by measuring the intensities of the emission lines of a Laser-induced breakdown (emission) spectrometry (LIBS). The optical emission spectroscopy from a laser-induced plasma generated by a 10 640 Å radiation, with an irradiance of 1.4 × 1010 Wcm− 2 on an Sn–Pb alloy (an Sn content of approximately 20%), in vacuum, was recorded at 0.8 µs, and analysed between 1900 and 7000 Å. The population-level distribution and corresponding temperature were obtained using Boltzmann plots. The electron density of the plasma was determined using well-known Stark broadening parameters of spectral lines. The plasma under study had an electron temperature of 13,200 K and an electron number density of 2 × 1016 cm− 3. The experimental relative transition probabilities were put on an absolute scale using the branching ratio method to calculate Sn I multiplet transition probabilities from available radiative lifetime data of their upper states and plotting the Sn I emission spectrum lines on a Boltzmann plot assuming local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) to be valid and following Boltzmann's law. The LTE conditions and plasma homogeneity have been checked. Special attention was paid to the possible self-absorption of the different transitions. The experimental results obtained have been compared with the experimental values given by other authors
Oscillatory relaxation of zonal flows in a multi-species stellarator plasma
The low frequency oscillatory relaxation of zonal potential perturbations is
studied numerically in the TJ-II stellarator (where it was experimentally
detected for the first time). It is studied in full global gyrokinetic
simulations of multi-species plasmas. The oscillation frequency obtained is
compared with predictions based on single-species simulations using simplified
analytical relations. It is shown that the frequency of this oscillation for a
multi-species plasma can be accurately obtained from single-species
calculations using extrapolation formulas. The damping of the oscillation and
the influence of the different inter-species collisions is studied in detail.
It is concluded that taking into account multiple kinetic ions and electrons
with impurity concentrations realistic for TJ-II plasmas allows to account for
the values of frequency and damping rate in zonal flows relaxations observed

Hodograph solutions of the dispersionless coupled KdV hierarchies, critical points and the Euler-Poisson-Darboux equation
It is shown that the hodograph solutions of the dispersionless coupled KdV
(dcKdV) hierarchies describe critical and degenerate critical points of a
scalar function which obeys the Euler-Poisson-Darboux equation. Singular
sectors of each dcKdV hierarchy are found to be described by solutions of
higher genus dcKdV hierarchies. Concrete solutions exhibiting shock type
singularities are presented.Comment: 19 page
Semiclassical expansions in the Toda hierarchy and the hermitian matrix model
An iterative algorithm for determining a class of solutions of the
dispersionful 2-Toda hierarchy characterized by string equations is developed.
This class includes the solution which underlies the large N-limit of the
Hermitian matrix model in the one-cut case. It is also shown how the double

Ab initio calculations of Ca III Stark broadening parameters,transition probabilities and radiative lifetimes
We have determined matrix elements for all experimental configurations of Ca III, including
the 3s3p63d configuration. These values have been obtained using intermediate coupling (IC).
For these IC calculations, we have used the standard method of least-squares fitting from
the experimental energy levels, using the computer code developed by Robert Cowan. In this
paper, using these matrix elements, we report the calculated values of the Ca III Stark widths
and shifts for 148 spectral lines, of 56 Ca III spectral line transition probabilities and of eight
radiative lifetimes of Ca III levels. The Stark widths and shifts, calculated using the Griem
semi-empirical approach, correspond to the spectral lines of Ca III and are presented for an
electron density of 1017 cm?3 and temperatures T = 1.0?10.0 (×104 K). The theoretical trends
of the Stark broadening parameter versus the temperature are presented for transitions that
are of astrophysical interest. There is good agreement between our calculations, for transition
probabilities and radiative lifetimes, and the experimental values presented in the literature.
