    A characterization of dual quermassintegrals and the roots of dual steiner polynomials

    For any IRI\subset\mathbb{R} finite with 0I0\in I, we provide a characterization of those tuples (ωi)iI(\omega_i)_{i\in I} of positive numbers which are dual querma\ss integrals of two star bodies. It turns out that this problem is related to the moment problem. Based on this relation we also get new inequalities for the dual querma\ss integrals. Moreover, the above characterization will be the key tool in order to investigate structural properties of the set of roots of dual Steiner polynomials of star bodies

    A rapid procedure for the isolation of plasmid DNA from environmental bacteria

    The INSTA-MINI-PREP method, a rapid protocol for plasmid DNA extraction, was originally developed to prepare plasmid DNA from 1 to 3 ml miniprep Escherichia coli cultures. Direct extraction of plasmid DNA is achieved by a two-phase solution which is separated by centrifugation in the presence of the INSTA-PREP gel barrier material. This method has been successfully tested on various environmental Salmonella strains, although it was not suitable for Pseudomonas aeruginosa and enterococci strains.     La educación emocional y la resolución de conflictos son factores clave en la mejora del clima del aula. Así lo demuestra nuestra experiencia contextualizada en un centro de secundaria de la ciudad de Valencia (España) con un alto índice de expedientes sancionadores. La puesta en práctica, en dicho centro, de un programa de intervención y formación para entrenar las técnicas relacionadas con la educación emocional y la resolución pacífica de los conflictos ha supuesto una reducción significativa tanto en el número de expedientes como en la manera de afrontarlos traduciéndose en una mejora de la convivencia en el centro mediante un aumento de la Cultura de Mediación.Emotional education and conflict resolution are key factors in improving the classroom climate. This is demonstrated by our experience contextualized in a secondary school in the city of Valencia (Spain) with a high index of disciplinary proceedings. The implementation, in this center, of an intervention and training program to train the techniques related to emotional education and the peaceful resolution of conflicts has meant a significant reduction both in the number of disciplinary proceedings and in the way of dealing with them. in an improvement of coexistence in the center through an increase in the Culture of Mediation

    Short-term effect of zoledronic acid upon fracture resistance of the mandibular condyle and femoral head in an animal model

    Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the effects in terms of resistance to fracture of the mandibular condyle and femoral head following different doses of zoledronic acid in an animal model. Study design: A total of 80 adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were included in a prospective randomized study. The animals were randomly divided into four groups of 20 rats each. Group 1 (control) received sterile saline solution, while groups 2, 3 and 4 received a accumulated dose of 0.2 mg, 0.4 mg and 0.6 mg of zoledronic acid, respectively. The animals were sacrificed 28 days after the last dose, and the right hemimandible and the right femur were removed. The fracture strength was measured (in Newtons) with a universal test machine using a 1 kN load connected to a metal rod with one end angled at 30 degrees. The cross-head speed was 1 mm/min. Later, the specimens were observed under a scanning electron microscope with backscattered electron imaging (SEM- BSE). At last, chemical analysis and elemental mapping of the mineral bone composition were generated using a microanalytical system based on energy-dispersive and X-ray spectrometry (EDX). Results: A total of 160 fracture tests were performed. The fracture resistance increased in mandible and femur with a higher accumulated dose of zoledronic acid. Statistically significant differences were recorded versus the controls with all the studies groups. The chemical analysis in mandible showed a significantly increased of calcium and phosphorous to compare the control with all of the study groups; however, in femur no statistically significant differences between the four study groups were observed.     Abstract Although much research has taken place in WiFi indoor localization systems, their accuracy can still be improved. When designing this kind of system, fingerprint-based methods are a common choice. The problem with fingerprint-based methods comes with the need of site surveying the environment, which is effort consuming. In this work, we propose an approach, based on support vector regression, to estimate the received signal strength at non-site-surveyed positions of the environment.     Concretos fueron elaborados reemplazando cemento Portland ordinario por nano-SiO2 geotérmica y humo de sílice. Se curaron a 20ºC y 100% de humedad hasta 7 años y después fueron expuestos a altas temperaturas (350°C, 550°C y 750°C). Se les evaluó la velocidad de ultrasonidos (UPV), análisis termogravimétrico/diferencial (TG/DTA), difracción de rayos X (DRX) y microscopía electrónica de barrido (MEB). La pérdida de peso y la reducción en la UPV fue mayor para los especímenes adicionados (NSG y HS) en comparación con el espécimen de referencia (CPC 100%), además se apreció una mayor degradación en la microestructura de los especímenes con adiciones

    Hierarchical approach to enhancing topology-based WiFi indoor localization in large environments

    Traditionally, WiFi has been used for indoors localization purposes due to its important advantages. There are WiFi access points in most buildings and measuring WiFi signal is free of charge even for private WiFi networks. Unfortunately, it also has some disadvantages: when extending WiFi-based localization systems to large environments their accuracy decreases. This has been previously solved by manually dividing the environment into zones. In this paper, an automatic partition of the environment is proposed to increase the localization accuracy in large environments. To do so, a hierarchical partition of the environment is performed using K-Means and the Calinski-Harabasz Index. Then, different classification techniques have been compared to achieve high localization rates. The new approach is tested in a real environment with more than 200 access points and 133 topological positions, obtaining an overall increase in the accuracy of approximately 10% and reducing the error to the real position to 2.45 metres.Ministerio de Ciencia e InnovaciónUniversidad de AlcaláPrincipado de Asturia

    How people [try to] detect lies in everyday life

    Laboratory-based deception-detection experiments often fail to capture the features of everyday life lie detection among ordinary citizens. In this study, we examined how people [try to] detect deception in real life. Over 10 weeks, every time the participants felt they had detected a lie, they filled in an online survey. Results show that, in everyday life, many lies are detected unexpectedly, often from non-behavioral indicators, that people suspecting deception search for both behavioral cues and non-behavioral information, but that non-behavioral information is more useful to detect deception. The study addresses aspects unexplored in prior studies on everyday life lie detection, provides new insights, and has theoretical implications.Financiación: Consejería de Educación de la Junta de Castilla y León, España.
