A New Fast Peak Current Controller for Transient Voltage Faults for Power Converters

    Get PDF
Power converters are the basic unit for the transient voltage fault ride through capability for most renewable distributed generators (DGs). When a transient fault happens, the grid voltage will drop suddenly and probably will also suffer a phase-jump event as well. State-of-the-art voltage fault control techniques regulate the current injected during the grid fault. However, the beginning of the fault could be too fast for the inner current control loops of the inverter, and transient over-current would be expected. In order to avoid the excessive peak current of the methods presented in the literature, a new fast peak current control (FPCC) technique is proposed. Controlling the peak current magnitude avoids undesirable disconnection of the distributed generator in a fault state and improves the life expectancy of the converter. Experimental and simulation tests with high power converters provide the detailed behaviour of the method with excellent results

Molecular and Clinical Implications of Somatostatin Receptor Profile and Somatostatin Analogues Treatment in Oral Cavity Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) incidence has increased by 50% over the last decade. Unfortunately, surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy are still the mainstream modality of treatment, underscoring the need for alternative therapies. Somatostatin-analogues (SSA) are efficacious and safe treatments for a variety of tumors, but the presence of somatostatin-receptors (SSTs) and pharmacological effects of SSA on OSCC are poorly known. In this study, we demonstrated that SST2 and SST3 levels were significantly higher in OSCC, compared to adjacent healthy control tissues. SST2 expression was associated with less regional metastasis and a lower recurrence rate. Moreover, SST2 was elevated in OSCC and associated with histopathological good prognosis factors, such as high peritumoral inflammation, smaller depth of invasion, and expansive vs. infiltrative front of tumor invasion. Importantly, treatment with different SSA (octreotide, lanreotide, and pasireotide) significantly reduced cell-proliferation in OSCC primary cell cultures. Altogether, this study demonstrated that SST2 is overexpressed in OSCC vs. healthy tissues and could represent a novel prognostic biomarker, since its expression is associated with tumors that show better prognostic factors and less recurrent rate. Moreover, our data unveil clear antitumoral effects of SSAs on OSCC, opening new avenues to explore their potential as targeting therapy to OSCC

Introduction: Suicide is the second leading cause of non natural death worldwide, therefore it is clear that prevention, evaluation and treatment of suicide is essential. Objective: profile evaluation of a group of patients with depression attended at a public mental health service in a group format. Variables evaluated are: suicidal ideation, hopelessness, vitality, personality disorders, anxiety, emotional intelligence, self-esteem and subjective quality of life. Methodology: This evaluation is part of the AFRONTA study, whose aim is suicide prevention and mental health promotion. The sample consisted on 80 patients from the mental health centre of Consorci Sanitari del Maresme in Mataró, Spain. Results and discussion: Significant correlations of self-esteem with almost all the evaluated variables are observed, which indicates that self-esteem is a crucial variable to be evaluated in the studied population. Likewise, the hopelessness variable has been found more correlated to other clinical variables than depression, measured with BDI. The repair of the emotions correlates with both cited variables, demonstrating as a basic variable to be taken into account both in the evaluation and in the treatment. There are no differences between subjects with a personality disorder and subjects with no personality disorders, except for self-esteem. No differences are appreciated in suicidal impulse between the two groups, but these differences become relevant when referring to suicide attempts.

Background: A large scale semi-quantitative biodiversity assessment was conducted in white oak woodlands in areas included in the Spanish Network of National Parks, as part of a project aimed at revealing biogeographic patterns and identify biodiversity drivers. The semiquantitative COBRA sampling protocol was conducted in sixteen 1-ha plots across six national parks using a nested design. All adult specimens were identified to species level based on morphology. Uncertain delimitations and identifications due to either limited information of diagnostic characters or conflicting taxonomy were further investigated using DNA barcode information. New information: We identified 376 species belonging to 190 genera in 39 families, from the 8,521 adults found amongst the 20,539 collected specimens. Faunistic results include the discovery of 7 new species to the Iberian Peninsula, 3 new species to Spain and 11 putative new species to science. As largely expected by environmental features, the southern parks showed a higher proportion of Iberian and Mediterranean species than the northern parks, where the Palearctic elements were largely dominant. The analysis of approximately 3,200 DNA barcodes generated in the present study, corroborated and provided finer resolution to the morphologically based delimitation and identification of specimens in some taxonomically challenging families. Specifically, molecular data confirmed putative new species with diagnosable morphology, identified overlooked lineages that may constitute new species, confirmed assignment of specimens of unknown sexes to species and identified cases of misidentifications and phenotypic polymorphisms

Epidemiología y Teratología: Resultados sobre los datos del ECEMCApert and Crouzon syndromes are the most frequent ones among those syndromes with craniosynostosis. We have used data from the Spanish Collaborative Study of Congenital Malformations (ECEMC), to analyze some clinical and epidemiological characteristics of both syndromes. A total of 19 cases of Apert and 21 cases of Crouzon syndromes were identified among 1,914,726 liveborn infants. Their birth prevalence has diminished along the time although the decrease is only statistically significant for Crouzon syndrome. Mean parental ages, and mean differences between the parental ages, are significantly higher in Apert cases than in controls, what is indicating a relationship between paternal age and mutations for this syndrome. The differences between the parental ages of Crouzon cases and controls are not statistically significant. All the cases with Apert syndrome of our series were the first occurrence in the family, while 38.10% of the Crouzon cases were familial. We also observed a significant increasing linear trend in the frequency of infants with Apert syndrome, with the increasing paternal age, which is more noticeable since the age of 35 years. However, this is not observed for Crouzon cases whether sporadic or familial. Regarding the clinical aspects, Apert syndrome is more frequently associated to other defects than Crouzon syndrome. With respect to the affectation of hands in the Apert cases, the most frequent defect was the so-called "mitten hand", wich was present in 50% of our cases. In 28.57% the first finger was separated from the rest that are fused. Interestingly, in one case only the fifth finger was separated for the other four that remain fused.N

Beyond ‘BRICS’: ten theses on South–South cooperation in the twenty-first century

Grounded in a review of past and present academic South–South cooperation literatures, this article advances ten theses that problematise empirical, theoretical, conceptual and methodological issues essential to discussions of South–South cooperation in the 21st century. This endeavour is motivated by the perceived undermining, especially in the contemporary Anglophone academic South–South cooperation literature, of the emancipatory potential historically associated with South–South cooperation. By drawing on the interventionist South–South cooperation agendas of ‘left’-leaning Latin America-Caribbean governments, the article seeks to establish a dialogue between social science theories and less ‘visible’ analyses from academic (semi)peripheries. The ten theses culminate in an exploration of the potential of South–South cooperation to promote ‘alternative’ development

    Servitization and co-creation: customers’ perspective

    No full text
This research aims at investigating the moderating role of co-creation in the implementation of servitization strategies (in a B2B context) in the pharmaceutical industry from the perspective of customers (that is the servitized firms). Servitization is understood in this paper as a strategy that contributes towards the development of the customers’ processes and capabilities (Baines et al., 2009) in a B2B context, through close collaboration in the design of services that are jointly co-created to generate mutual value for both servitizing and servitized firms
