Gauge invariant fluctuations of the metric during inflation from new scalar-tensor Weyl-Integrable gravity model
We investigate gauge invariant scalar fluctuations of the metric during
inflation in a non-perturbative formalism in the framework of a recently
introduced scalar-tensor theory of gravity formulated on a Weyl-Integrable
geometry. We found that the Weyl scalar field can play the role of the inflaton
field in this theory. As an application we study the case of a power law
inflation. In this case the quasi-scale invariance of the spectrum for scalar
fluctuations of the metric is achieved for determined values of the
parameter of the scalar-tensor theory. In our formalism the physical inflaton
field has a geometrical origin.Comment: 9 pages, no figures. This is a revised version accepted for

The Dark Side of the Self-Determination Theory and Its Influence on the Emotional and Cognitive Processes of Students in Physical Education
Amongst the main objectives of physical education (PE) classes is the consolidation of healthy lifestyle habits in young people and adolescents. Nonetheless, these classes can also provide the basis from which adverse experiences are generated which affect students’ perceptions of these classes. Previously conducted studies have focused on motivational processes and not on emotional processes, nor on the way in which students learn. The objective of the present study was to explore the dark side of the self-determination theory, its influence on emotional intelligence and the meta-cognitive strategies of students. Methodology: A total of 1602 young people undertaking secondary education participated, with self-reported ages between 13 and 19 years. The following questionnaires were utilized: Controlling Coach Behaviors Scale, Frustration of Psychological Needs in PE classes Scale, Emotional Intelligence in PE Scale and Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire. A structural equation model was developed which explained causal associations between the study variables. Results: Psychological control positively predicted each one of the sub-factors of frustration of psychological needs. Frustration of psychological needs negatively predicted emotional intelligence. Finally, emotional intelligence positively predicted meta-cognitive thinking. Conclusions: The influence and importance of the teaching style adopted by teachers is indicated, in addition to the effect of students’ psychological experiences on emotions and learning strategie
Electroweak constraints on warped models with custodial symmetry
It has been recently argued that realistic models with warped extra
dimensions can have Kaluza-Klein particles accessible at the Large Hadron
Collider if a custodial symmetry, SU(2)_V \times P_{LR}, is used to protect the
T parameter and the coupling of the left-handed bottom quark to the Z gauge
boson. In this article we emphasize that such a symmetry implies that the loop
corrections to both the T parameter and the Z b_L \bar{b}_L coupling are
calculable. In general, these corrections are correlated, can be sizable, and
should be considered to determine the allowed parameter space region in models
with warped extra dimensions and custodial symmetry, including Randall-Sundrum
models with a fundamental Higgs, models of gauge-Higgs unification and
Higgsless models. As an example, we derive the constraints that arise on a
representative model of gauge-Higgs unification from a global fit to the
precision electroweak observables. A scan over the parameter space typically
leads to a lower bound on the Kaluza-Klein excitations of the gauge bosons of
about 2-3 TeV, depending on the configuration. In the fermionic sector one can
have Kaluza-Klein excitations with masses of a few hundred GeV. We present the
constraints on these light fermions from recent Tevatron searches, and explore
interesting discovery channels at the LHC.Comment: 38 pages, 8 figure
Heavy Quarks Above the Top at the Tevatron
Recent developments in models with warped extra dimensions have opened new
possibilities for vector-like quark studies at hadron colliders. These new
vector-like quarks can mix sizably with light Standard Model quarks without
violating low energy constraints. We perform a model-independent analysis to
determine the Tevatron reach in the search for new quarks. We find that the
Tevatron has great potential to observe such quarks via their electroweak
single production due to their mixing with valence quarks. With 4 (8) fb-1
integrated luminosity, one may reach a 5\sigma statistical significance for a
heavy quark of mass 580 (630) GeV if the heavy quark-Standard Model quark
mixing parameter is order one.Comment: Version published in Phys. Rev. D; 19 pages, 4 figures; extended

Validation and Adaptation of the Prosocial and Antisocial Behavior in Sport Scale to the Spanish context of Physical Education
Physical education (PE), by its own characteristics, is a subject where social communication is especially promoted. However, it is necessary to have tools that evaluate the social behaviour of students during PE classes. For this reason, we propose to validate and adapt the Prosocial and Antisocial Behavior in Sport Scale to the Spanish context of PE classes. The study involved 1081 students aged 12 to 18 (M = 14.83; SD = 1.27). The psychometric properties of the Prosocial Behavior Scale were analyzed through several statistical analyses. The results of the confirmatory factorial analysis and the exploratory factorial analysis supported the internal structure of the questionnaire. In addition, the scale was invariant to gender. Cronbach’s alpha values were higher than 0.70 in the factors and sub-factors, finally showing adequate levels of temporal stability. Taking into account the results achieved in the present study, PE teachers have an effective tool to assess the social and antisocial behaviour of their students’ students during PE classes
Gravitational waves during inflation from a 5D large-scale repulsive gravity model
We investigate, in the transverse traceless (TT) gauge, the generation of the
relic background of gravitational waves, generated during an early inflationary
stage, on the framework of a large-scale repulsive gravity model. We calculate
the spectrum of the tensor metric fluctuations of an effective 4D
Schwarzschild-de-Sitter metric, which is obtained after implementing a planar
coordinate transformation on a 5D Ricci-flat metric solution, in the context of
a non-compact Kaluza-Klein theory of gravity. We found that the spectrum is
nearly scale invariant under certain conditions. One interesting aspect of this
model is that is possible to derive dynamical field equations for the tensor
metric fluctuations, valid not just at cosmological scales, but also at
astrophysical scales, from the same theoretical model. The astrophysical and
cosmological scales are determined by the gravity- antigravity radius, which is
a natural length scale of the model, that indicates when gravity becomes
repulsive in nature.Comment: Improved version, accepted in Physics Letters
Gravitoelectromagnetic inflation and seeds of cosmic magnetic fields from geometrical Weyl-invariant scalar-tensor theory of gravity
We investigate cosmological inflationary scenarios from a
gravitoelectromagnetic theory. Our work is formulated in the light of a
recently introduced geometrical Weyl-Invariant scalar-tensor theory of gravity,
where the nature of both the electromagnetic potential and the inflaton field
is attributed to the space-time geometry. We obtain a Harrison-Zeldovich power
spectrum for quantum fluctuations of the inflaton field. In our model the
electromagnetic fields have also a nearly scale invariant power spectrum for a
power-law inflation. We found that the the seed magnetic fields have a nearly
scale invariant power spectrum and generate in the present times cosmic
magnetic fields of the order gauss, in good agreement with
CMB observations.Comment: 11 pages, 1 figur
Hydrothermal preparation of highly photoactive TiO2 nanoparticles
TiO2 nanoparticles have been prepared by amine assisted sol–gel precipitation of Ti4+ aqueous solutions and further hydrothermal treatment.
The effect of different starting acidic solution (nitric, chlorhydric and acetic acids) as well as the addition of triethylamine (TEA) at different pH has
been widely investigated. It has been stated that different amounts of TEA could have interesting effects upon hydrothermal treatment. Surface and
morphological features significantly differ from TiO2 prepared using different synthetic route. In all cases, amine precipitated TiO2 obtained
exhibit high conversion values for phenol photo-oxidation reaction, being in certain conditions higher than that exhibited by TiO2 Degussa P25.
The precipitation of the acetic acidified solution leads to high surface area values and well crystallized anatase with small crystallite size. In
addition, this set of catalysts show the cleanest surface after the hydrothermal treatment. The conjunction of these features would be the
characteristic features responsible of the best photocatalytic activity observed.Peer reviewe
