    Ewens measures on compact groups and hypergeometric kernels

    On unitary compact groups the decomposition of a generic element into product of reflections induces a decomposition of the characteristic polynomial into a product of factors. When the group is equipped with the Haar probability measure, these factors become independent random variables with explicit distributions. Beyond the known results on the orthogonal and unitary groups (O(n) and U(n)), we treat the symplectic case. In U(n), this induces a family of probability changes analogous to the biassing in the Ewens sampling formula known for the symmetric group. Then we study the spectral properties of these measures, connected to the pure Fisher-Hartvig symbol on the unit circle. The associated orthogonal polynomials give rise, as nn tends to infinity to a limit kernel at the singularity.Comment: New version of the previous paper "Hua-Pickrell measures on general compact groups".     A conceptual framework for crop-based agri-food supply chain characterization under uncertainty

    [EN] Crop-based Agri-food Supply Chains (AFSCs) are complex systems that face multiple sources of uncertainty that can cause a significant imbalance between supply and demand in terms of product varieties, quantities, qualities, customer requirements, times and prices, all of which greatly complicate their management. Poor management of these sources of uncertainty in these AFSCs can have negative impact on quality, safety, and sustainability by reducing the logistic efficiency and increasing the waste. Therefore, it becomes crucial to develop models in order to deal with the key sources of uncertainty. For this purpose, it is necessary to precisely understand and define the problem under study. Even, the characterisation process of this domains is also a difficult and time-consuming task, especially when the right directions and standards are not in place.     Level spacings for weakly asymmetric real random matrices and application to two-color QCD with chemical potential

    We consider antisymmetric perturbations of real symmetric matrices in the context of random matrix theory and two-color quantum chromodynamics. We investigate the level spacing distributions of eigenvalues that remain real or become complex conjugate pairs under the perturbation. We work out analytical surmises from small matrices and show that they describe the level spacings of large random matrices. As expected from symmetry arguments, these level spacings also apply to the overlap Dirac operator for two-color QCD with chemical potential.Comment: 23 pages, 6 figures, 1 animation; minor corrections, references added, as published in JHE

    Measurement of D+- and D0 production in deep inelastic scattering using a lifetime tag at HERA

    The production of D-+/-- and D-0-mesons has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 133.6 pb(-1). The measurements cover the kinematic range 5 < Q(2) < 1000 GeV2, 0.02 < y < 0.7, 1.5 < p(T)(D) < 15 GeV and |eta(D)| < 1.6. Combinatorial background to the D-meson signals is reduced by using the ZEUS microvertex detector to reconstruct displaced secondary vertices. Production cross sections are compared with the predictions of next-to-leading-order QCD, which is found to describe the data well. Measurements are extrapolated to the full kinematic phase space in order to obtain the open-charm contribution, F-2(c (c) over bar), to the proton structure function, F-2
