    ECG wave detector and delineation with wavelets

Likewis e, ECG delineation comprising P wave and QRS complex, is required for ECG processing, namely in High- Resolution Electrocardiography (HR-ECG). We have performed R wave detection using the Mexican Hat wavelet and achieved a sensibility Se=97.77 % and a positive prediction P+=99.46%. Our data is HR-ECG and the delineation process occurs in two steps: wavelet detection and application of the Task Force (Breithardt et al.)1 detection rules

    Thermal Decomposition Of [m3(co)12] (m = Ru, Os) Physisorbed Onto Porous Vycor Glass: A Route To A Glass/ruo2 Nanocomposite

    This paper reports the preparation and characterization of oxide/glass nanocomposites, obtained by the impregnation and thermal decomposition of the trinuclear metal carbonyl clusters[M3(CO)12] (M = Ru, Os) inside the pores of porous Vycor glass (PVG). The intermediate species formed during the thermal treatment of the [M3(CO)12] adsorbed PVG materials were studied by UV-VIS-NIR and diffuse reflectance infrared (DR-IR) spectroscopy. At 65°C (M-Ru) and 110°C (M = Os), formation of surface bound [HM3(CO)10(μ- OSi≃)] species occurs, as a result of oxidative addition of a PVG surface silanol group to a cluster M-M bond. At T > 130°C (M = Ru) and T > 200°C (M = Os) cluster breakdown is observed, with formation of [M(CO)(n)(OSi≃)2] (n = 2 and/or 3) species. When [Ru3(CO)12] incorporated PVG is heated in air at T >250°C, decomposition of the cluster and formation of RuO2 nanoparticles are observed.     New results on q-positivity

    In this paper we discuss symmetrically self-dual spaces, which are simply real vector spaces with a symmetric bilinear form. Certain subsets of the space will be called q-positive, where q is the quadratic form induced by the original bilinear form. The notion of q-positivity generalizes the classical notion of the monotonicity of a subset of a product of a Banach space and its dual. Maximal q-positivity then generalizes maximal monotonicity. We discuss concepts generalizing the representations of monotone sets by convex functions, as well as the number of maximally q-positive extensions of a q-positive set. We also discuss symmetrically self-dual Banach spaces, in which we add a Banach space structure, giving new characterizations of maximal q-positivity.     Human Septic Myopathy: Induction of Cyclooxygenase, Heme Oxygenase and Activation of the Ubiquitin Proteolytic Pathway

    Background: Skeletal muscle failure and wasting are manifestations of sepsis in humans that leads to serious and prolonged complications. The authors investigated the role of the major proinflammatory and antiinflammatory pathways, namely the inducible isoforms cyclooxygenase (COX-2) and heme oxygenase (HO-1), and the ubiquitin proteolytic pathway in skeletal muscle of septic patients. Methods: Protein expression was detected by Western blot techniques. Muscle biopsies were taken from two muscle groups, rectus abdominis and vastus lateralis, of septic and control patients. Results: The study showed an increase in COX-2 and HO-1 proteins expression and an activation of the proteolytic ubiquitin pathway with a parallel increase in free ubiquitin and ubiquitinated proteins in skeletal muscle of septic but not of control patients. In addition, those patients who would die from septic shock expressed more COX-2 and HO-1 proteins in muscle biopsies than did those patients who would survive. Conclusions: This study showed a marked involvement of local proinflammatory and antiinflammatory pathways and, more importantly, demonstrated the existence of an active ubiquitin proteolytic pathway in skeletal muscle of septic patients.     Systems theory of Smad signaling

    Transforming Growth Factor-beta (TGF-beta) signalling is an important regulator of cellular growth and differentiation. The principal intracellular mediators of TGF-beta signalling are the Smad proteins, which upon TGF-beta stimulation accumulate in the nucleus and regulate transcription of target genes. To investigate the mechanisms of Smad nuclear accumulation, we developed a simple mathematical model of canonical Smad signalling. The model was built using both published data and our experimentally determined cellular Smad concentrations (isoforms 2, 3, and 4). We found in mink lung epithelial cells that Smad2 (8.5-12 x 10^4 molecules/cell) was present in similar amounts to Smad4 (9.3-12 x 10^4 molecules/cell), while both were in excess of Smad3 (1.1-2.0 x 10^4 molecules/cell). Variation of the model parameters and statistical analysis showed that Smad nuclear accumulation is most sensitive to parameters affecting the rates of RSmad phosphorylation and dephosphorylation and Smad complex formation/dissociation in the nucleus. Deleting Smad4 from the model revealed that rate-limiting phospho-R-Smad dephosphorylation could be an important mechanism for Smad nuclear accumulation. Furthermore, we observed that binding factors constitutively localised to the nucleus do not efficiently mediate Smad nuclear accumulation if dephosphorylation is rapid. We therefore conclude that an imbalance in the rates of R-Smad phosphorylation and dephosphorylation is likely an important mechanism of Smad nuclear accumulation during TGF-beta signalling.Comment: To appear in IEE Proceedings Systems Biology. 12 pages of text, 36 pages tota

    RapidSim: an application for the fast simulation of heavy-quark hadron decays

    RapidSim is a lightweight application for the fast simulation of phase space decays of beauty and charm quark hadrons, allowing for quick studies of the properties of signal and background decays in particle physics analyses. Based upon the TGenPhaseSpace class from the ROOT application it uses externally provided fixed-order next-to-leading-logarithm calculations to boost the initial beauty and charm hadrons to the appropriate energy for the production environment of interest. User-defined momentum resolution functions can be used to mimic the effect of imperfect track reconstruction. User-defined efficiency shapes can be applied during generation to reproduce the effects of geometric and kinematic requirements on final state particles as well as the dynamics of the decay. The effect of mis-identification of the final state particles is simple to configure via configuration files, while the framework can easily be extended to include additional particle types.     Enhancing meat quality of weaned piglets with the dietary incorporation of Ulva lactuca and carbohydrases supplementation

    Pubmed Free articleThe impact of the dietary incorporation of 7% Ulva lactuca, a green seaweed, on the quality and nutritional value of piglet’s meat was assessed. U. lactuca is rich in nutrients and bioactive compounds but its cell wall is composed of complex polysaccharides that reduce their bioavailability. Therefore, the effect of supplementing piglet diets with exogenous carbohydrases was also assessed here. A total of 40 male weaned piglets were divided into four dietary groups, each with 10 piglets: control (wheat, maize and soybean meal-based diet), UL (7% U. lactuca replacing the control diet), UL +R (UL and 0.005% Rovabio®), and UL +E (UL and 0.01% ulvan lyase). The piglets were fed the diets for 2 weeks. The results showed that incorporating U. lactuca in piglet diets did not influence most of the meat quality traits (P >0.05). However, the incorporation of U. lactuca with the commercial carbohydrase (UL +R) increased the amount of the docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; 22:6n-3) in their meat (P =0.011) compared with the control, by 54%. In addition, meat from piglets fed seaweed diets showed a nearly two-fold increase in iodine contents (P <0.001). Meat tenderness, juiciness and overall acceptability of piglets fed the control diet and the UL diet were lower than those fed the diets containing seaweed and carbohydrases (P <0.001).     PAK2 is an effector of TSC1/2 signaling independent of mTOR and a potential therapeutic target for Tuberous Sclerosis Complex

    Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is caused by inactivating mutations in either TSC1 or TSC2 and is characterized by uncontrolled mTORC1 activation. Drugs that reduce mTOR activity are only partially successful in the treatment of TSC, suggesting that mTOR-independent pathways play a role in disease development. Here, kinome profiles of wild-type and Tsc2-/- mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) were generated, revealing a prominent role for PAK2 in signal transduction downstream of TSC1/2. Further investigation showed that the effect of the TSC1/2 complex on PAK2 is mediated through RHEB, but is independent of mTOR and p21RAC. We also demonstrated that PAK2 over-activation is likely responsible for the migratory and cell cycle abnormalities observed in Tsc2-/- MEFs. Finally, we detected high levels of PAK2 activation in giant cells in the brains of TSC patients. These results show that PAK2 is a direct effector of TSC1-TSC2-RHEB signaling and a new target for rational drug therapy in TSC

    Maternal mortality rate in Indonesia is relatively high. The most common cause of maternal death is bleeding. Post partum haemorrhage (PPH) is an unexpected cause and the fastest cause of maternal death worldwide. PPH is blood loss of 500 cc or more that occurs after the baby is born. Risk factors/predisposition for postpartum hemorrhage include: anemia, parity, gestational age, delivery distance, excessive uterine stretching (macrosomia, gemely, and polyhidramnions), precipitate parturition, oxytocin induction, history of cesarean section, ante partum bleeding, first stage of labor and the elongated II, and so on. This literature review aims to determine the risk factors/trigger factors of postpartum hemorrhage. Using literature study according to the topic. Literature studies were obtained from various sources, including from journals ranging from 2015-2020. Source articles from goggle scholars and Goggle Scholars. From several journals that have been reviewed, postpartum hemorrhage is one of the complications that has a high incidence. And there is a relationship between predisposing factors and the incidence of postpartum hemorrhageAbstrakAngka kematian ibu melahirkan di Indonesia relatif tinggi.
