Changes in dynamic properties of structures, such as damping ratios and natural frequencies can be detected by periodic monitoring (e.g. one time by year). These changes are often indications of structural damage thereby, the maintenance or demolition of the structure can be doing in due time. In the case of pedestrian bridges, people’s movements may produce a resonance state, which leads to excessive deflection that accelerates the deterioration of these structures. Typically, these dynamic properties are detected by using high-cost vibration measurement equipment to achieve high levels of precision (i.e. a very low noise levels). This article studies the measurement of dynamic properties in pedestrian bridges using a tri-axial accelerometer integrated into a mobile phone as a low-cost and alternative practice. Accelerations were recorded on a steel pedestrian bridge (flexible) and on a post-tensioned concrete pedestrian bridge (rigid) located in Barranquilla City (Colombia). Vibrations were induced by a person (e.g., by jumping). Previous studies based on traditional measuring techniques show that two dominant frequencies in both types of bridges can be identified. However, in this study a reliable damping ratio could only be established for the steel bridge that it is associated with the flexibility and the low amplitude of the induced vibrations by a single pedestrian use

(Eng) The objective of this paper is to present a methodology designed to develop a driving cycle to model traffic in the Pereira city in Colombia. Under the scope of this pilot work, four different gasoline passenger cars furnished with real time datalogging equipment were used to collect speed-time data under actual traffic along Pereira urban area. The speed-acceleration characteristics were analyzed, and target driving parameters were defined and evaluated. The designed method for building the driving cycle was then applied. As a result, a simple driving schedule for analyzing propulsion, fuel consumption rate, and emission control strategies of automobiles under Pereira downtown conditions has been proposed. Under the scope of the same project, was also studied the utility of the engine specific data collected during the vehicle operation for the purposes of engine performance assessment.(Spa) El objetivo de este trabajo es presentar una metodología para la obtención de un ciclo de conducción representativo del tráfico en la ciudad de Pereira, Colombia, usando herramientas de bajo costo.

In this work, the one-loop renormalization of a theory for fields transforming in the (1,0)(0,1)(1,0)\oplus(0,1) representation of the Homogeneous Lorentz Group is studied. The model includes an arbitrary gyromagnetic factor and self-interactions of the spin 1 field, which has mass dimension one. The model is shown to be renormalizable for any value of the gyromagnetic factor.Comment: 15 pages, 9 figure

The results of geophysical prospections in an archaeological site of hispanic type in Panama (Central America) are presented in this article. The archaeological site of Old Panama has been intensively investigated with the objective to know the space – time organization of man in the past. A magnetic prospection was developed in the central sector of the site; the rank of magnitude of the magnetic anomalies allowed the identification of certain characteristics of hispanic type and in addition, the presence of metallic devices, typical of more recent occupation times. On the other hand, the results of three electrical tomographies are presented. From these results it was possible to identify the depth of the metallic objects detected by magnetic prospection. The results of geophysical prospections in an archaeological site of hispanic type in Panama (Central America) are presented in this article.

Introduction: Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States, surpassed only by cardiovascular disease. However, cancer has now overtaken cardiovascular disease as the main cause of death in 12 countries in Western Europe. The burden of cancer is posing a major challenge to health care systems worldwide and demanding improvements in methods for cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Alternative and complementary strategies for orthodox surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy need to be developed. Objective: To determine the oncolytic potential of tumor cell-adapted rotavirus in terms of their ability to infect and lysate murine myeloma Sp2/0-Ag14 cells.Materials and methods: We inoculated rotaviruses Wt1-5, WWM, TRUYO, ECwt-O, and WTEW in Sp2/0-Ag14 cells and we examined their infectious effects by immunocytochemistry, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, and DNA fragmentation assays. Results: Rotavirus infection involved the participation of some heat shock proteins, of protein disulfide isomerase (PDI), and integrin β3. We detected the accumulation of viral antigens within the virus-inoculated cells and in the culture medium in all the rotavirus isolates examined. The rotavirus-induced cell death mechanism in Sp2/0-Ag14 cells involved changes in cell membrane permeability, chromatin condensation, and DNA fragmentation, which were compatible with cytotoxicity and apoptosis. Conclusions: The ability of the rotavirus isolates Wt1-5, WWM, TRUYO, ECwt-O, and WTEW to infect and cause cell death of Sp2/0-Ag14 cells through mechanisms that are compatible with virus-induced apoptosis makes them potential candidates as oncolytic agents. Materiales and métodos.
