QED radiative corrections to the decay pi^0 to e^+e^-
We reconsider QED radiative corrections (RC) to the
decay width. One kind of RC investigated earlier has a renormalization group
origin and can be associated with the final state interaction of electron and
positron. It determines the distribution of lepton pair invariant masses in the
whole kinematic region. The other type of RC has a double-logarithmic character
and is related to almost on-mass-shell behavior of the lepton form factors. The
total effect of RC for the decay is estimated to be
3.2% and for the decay is 4.3%.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figure
Chaos assisted instanton tunneling in one dimensional perturbed periodic potential
For the system with one-dimensional spatially periodic potential we
demonstrate that small periodic in time perturbation results in appearance of
chaotic instanton solutions. We estimate parameter of local instability, width
of stochastic layer and correlator for perturbed instanton solutions.
Application of the instanton technique enables to calculate the amplitude of
the tunneling, the form of the spectrum and the lower bound for width of the
ground quasienergy zone
Ratios of Elastic Scattering of Pions from 3H and 3He
We have measured the elastic-scattering ratios of normalized yields for
charged pions from 3H and 3He in the backward hemisphere. At 180 MeV, we
completed the angular distribution begun with our earlier measurements, adding
six data points in the angular range of 119 deg to 169 deg in the pi-nucleus
center of mass. We also measured an excitation function with data points at
142, 180, 220, and 256 MeV incident pion energy at the largest achievable angle
for each energy between 160 deg and 170 deg in the pi-nucleus center of mass.
This excitation function corresponds to the energies of our forward-hemisphere
studies. The data, taken as a whole, show an apparent role reversal of the two
charge-symmetric ratios r1 and r2 in the backward hemisphere. Also, for data >
100 deg we observe a strong dependence on the four-momentum transfer squared
(-t) for all of the ratios regardless of pion energy or scattering angle, and
we find that the superratio R data match very well with calculations based on
the forward-hemisphere data that predicts the value of the difference between
the even-nucleon radii of 3H and 3He. Comparisons are also made with recent
calculations incorporating different wave functions and double scattering
models.Comment: RevTex 8pages, 12 figure file
Recent results on rare decay pi0 to e+e-
Experimental and theoretical progress concerning the rare decay pi0 to e+e-
is briefly reviewed. It includes the latest data from KTeV and a new model
independent estimate of the decay branching which show the deviation between
experiment and theory at the level of 3.3\sigma.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, talk at Int. Workshop on e+e- collisions from Phi

Quantum central limit theorem for continuous-time quantum walks on odd graphs in quantum probability theory
The method of the quantum probability theory only requires simple structural
data of graph and allows us to avoid a heavy combinational argument often
necessary to obtain full description of spectrum of the adjacency matrix. In
the present paper, by using the idea of calculation of the probability
amplitudes for continuous-time quantum walk in terms of the quantum probability
theory, we investigate quantum central limit theorem for continuous-time
quantum walks on odd graphs.Comment: 19 page, 1 figure
Lyra's Cosmology of Massive String in Anisotropic Bianchi-II Space-time
The paper deals with a spatially homogeneous and totally anisotropic Bianchi
II cosmological models representing massive strings in normal gauge for Lyra's
manifold. The modified Einstein's field equations have been solved by applying
variation law for Hubble's parameter. This law generates two type of solutions
for average scale factor, one is of power law type and other is of exponential
law type. The power law describes the dynamics of Universe from big bang to
present epoch while exponential law seems reasonable to project dynamics of
future Universe. It has been found that the displacement actor is a
decreasing function of time and it approaches to small positive value at late
time, which is collaborated with Halford (1970) as well as recent observations
of SN Ia. The study reveals that massive strings dominate in early Universe and
eventually disappear from Universe for sufficiently large time, which is in
agreement with the current astronomical observations.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figure
Database of diazotrophs in global ocean: abundance, biomass and nitrogen fixation rates
Marine N2 fixing microorganisms, termed diazotrophs, are a key functional group in marine pelagic ecosystems. The biological fixation of dinitrogen (N2) to bioavailable nitrogen provides an important new source of nitrogen for pelagic marine ecosystems and influences primary productivity and organic matter export to the deep ocean. As one of a series of efforts to collect biomass and rates specific to different phytoplankton functional groups, we have constructed a database on diazotrophic organisms in the global pelagic upper ocean by compiling about 12 000 direct field measurements of cyanobacterial diazotroph abundances (based on microscopic cell counts or qPCR assays targeting the nifH genes) and N2 fixation rates. Biomass conversion factors are estimated based on cell sizes to convert abundance data to diazotrophic biomass. The database is limited spatially, lacking large regions of the ocean especially in the Indian Ocean. The data are approximately log-normal distributed, and large variances exist in most sub-databases with non-zero values differing 5 to 8 orders of magnitude. Reporting the geometric mean and the range of one geometric standard error below and above the geometric mean, the pelagic N2 fixation rate in the global ocean is estimated to be 62 (52–73) Tg N yr?1 and the pelagic diazotrophic biomass in the global ocean is estimated to be 2.1 (1.4–3.1) Tg C from cell counts and to 89 (43–150) Tg C from nifH-based abundances. Reporting the arithmetic mean and one standard error instead, these three global estimates are 140 ± 9.2 Tg N yr?1, 18 ± 1.8 Tg C and 590 ± 70 Tg C, respectively. Uncertainties related to biomass conversion factors can change the estimate of geometric mean pelagic diazotrophic biomass in the global ocean by about ±70%. It was recently established that the most commonly applied method used to measure N2 fixation has underestimated the true rates. As a result, one can expect that future rate measurements will shift the mean N2 fixation rate upward and may result in significantly higher estimates for the global N2 fixation. The evolving database can nevertheless be used to study spatial and temporal distributions and variations of marine N2 fixation, to validate geochemical estimates and to parameterize and validate biogeochemical models, keeping in mind that future rate measurements may rise in the future. The database is stored in PANGAEA (doi:10.1594/PANGAEA.774851)
