Complexity of Magnetization and Magnetic Simplification
We use the Complexity=Volume (CV) prescription to study the effect of a
magnetic field on the complexity of formation for states in the gauge theories
dual to two different gravitational models. In one of these theories the
complexity increases with the intensity of the magnetic field, while in the
other a more interesting behavior is discovered, resulting in a phenomenon that
we term magnetic simplification. The relevant difference between the two
theories is that the content of the second includes a scalar operator with a
non-vanishing vacuum expectation value. This leads us to conclude that the
direct impact of the magnetic field is to increase the complexity of formation
of a state, but it can indirectly lower it by diminishing the complexity
associated to additional degrees of freedom when these do not vanish across the
space. We additionally compare the results obtained working in the full ten
dimensional backgrounds and in their effective five dimensional truncations,
exhibiting that the question is still current about which surface, whether the
uplift of the 5D extremal hypersurface or the extremal surface in 10D, should
be used in the CV prescription.Comment: 17 pages, 15 figure

Transcriptomics of ammonium nutrition in the conifer Pinus pinaster Aiton
Nitrogen is an important element for all living beings because it is part of macromolecules as significant
as nucleic acids or amino acids. For plants, it constitutes a limiting factor in their growth and development1
due to their low natural availability in soils thus limiting primary production in ecosystems2.
Conifers are a group of gymnosperm plants that form large forest extensions of vegetation, being the main
constituents of forests in boreal ecosystems3 where ammonium is the main source of inorganic nitrogen4.
Due to the characteristics of the soils in which conifers usually grow, these plants have developed a high
tolerance to the presence of ammonium, which may constitute their main source of inorganic nitrogen5.
The maritime pine (Pinus pinaster Aiton) is a conifer that has a wide distribution in the western
Mediterranean area and has been widely used in reforestation, soil stabilization tasks and industrially. In
recent years, maritime pine has been the subject of multiple omic studies that have resulted in the
acquisition of important tools and resources6,7.
The present work is focused on the analysis of the ammonium uptake and management efficiency, and its
relationship with the biomass accumulation in maritime pine. For this purpose, several experiments have
been developed in which pine seedlings have undergone different levels of ammonium nutrition, both in the
short and long term. As a result of short-term experiments, the characterization of transcriptomic response
to the process of ammonium nutrition (uptake and assimilation) is being studied at mRNA, lncRNA and
miRNA level in roots. In relation to long-term experiments, ten different provenances of maritime pine
seedlings were treated with different ammonium levels and the biomass changes were measured. The results
obtained suggest the existence a certain phenotypic plasticity grade for this conifer.

Opening or closing eyes at rest modulates the functional connectivity of V1 with default and salience networks
Current evidence suggests that volitional opening or closing of the eyes modulates brain activity and connectivity. However, how the eye state influences the functional connectivity of the primary visual cortex has been poorly investigated. Using the same scanner, fMRI data from two groups of participants similar in age, sex and educational level were acquired. One group (n = 105) performed a resting state with eyes closed, and the other group (n = 63) performed a resting state with eyes open. Seed-based voxel-wise functional connectivity whole-brain analyses were performed to study differences in the connectivity of the primary visual cortex. This region showed higher connectivity with the default mode and sensorimotor networks in the eyes closed group, but higher connectivity with the salience network in the eyes open group. All these findings were replicated using an open source shared dataset. These results suggest that opening or closing the eyes may set brain functional connectivity in an interoceptive or exteroceptive state
