Mis queridos alumnos, al presentarle a la comunidad académica este primer número de la revista Vniversitas Estudiantes, quiero invitarlos a hacer realidad nuestros sueños y a fortalecer nuestra esperanza como javerianos en la construcción de una sociedad que busque realizar el impero de la justicia, sin pretender justificar las acciones haciendo proclamas a los criterios de mérito o de valor, sino, simplemente, en donde nuestra conducta del presente garantice, también la conducta del futuro con honestidad y rectitud

Regulación y bienestar económico: evaluación de la regulación de servicios públicos domiciliarios de acueducto y electricidad en Colombia en la década de los noventa. Caso empresas públicas de Medellín

Las reformas de mediados de los noventa, basadas en las leyes 142 y 143 de 1994, introdujeron cambios institucionales y metodológicos en la regulación tarifaria para los servicios de electricidad y acueducto en Colombia. Este artículo, además de reseñar dichos cambios, evalúa a través de un contrafactual cómo hubiese sido la evolución tarifaria si no se hubiese presentado la reforma de los 90’s. Así mismo, estima las elasticidades precio y gasto para dichos servicios mediante el Sistema Casi Ideal de Demanda (AIDS) y con el cálculo de la variación equivalente establece si la regulación generó una mejora en el bienestar de los consumidores

Evaluación de dos sistemas de pastoreo (rotacional y continuo) sobre variables técnicas, productivas y económicas en novillos cebú comercial en el trópico bajo

Se evaluaron técnica y económicamente el empleo de dos sistemas de pastoreo (continuo y rotacional), en dos fincas ganaderas ubicadas en el municipio de Valencia. Departamento de Córdoba-Colombia. Con el objetivo principal de determinar cuál de los dos sistemas de pastoreo presenta un mejor comportamiento frente a variables productivas (técnicas y económicas). En el sistema de pastoreo continuo fueron evaluados 45 animales cebú comercial. En el pastoreo rotacional se evaluaron 69 animales cebú comercial. Durante el desarrollo del proyecto se examinó la eficiencia técnica; se estimó la producción, calidad y manejo de los pastos (aforos, crecimiento, periodo de recuperación) y peso de los animales (producción diaria por animal y producción diaria por hectárea). Para estimar la eficiencia económica, se tuvieron en cuenta indicadores como: costos directos, indirectos, ingresos, rentabilidad, margen neto, margen bruto, punto de equilibrio. Los resultados mostraron que los indicadores de ganancia de peso tuvieron un mejor comportamiento en el pastoreo continuo en promedio 777,6 gramos de ganancia/día contra 590 gramos de ganancia/día del pastoreo rotacional e igualmente la eficiencia productiva fue mejor 26% para el sistema rotacional contra el 16% para el sistema continuo. Y la rentabilidad económica,  producción de forrajes y calidad del suelo, reveló mejores rendimientos para el sistema rotacional. Estos estudios le permiten al productor ganadero contar con modelos y herramientas técnicas y económicas que le permitan implementar estrategias en sus hatos ganaderos para ser más eficientes, competitivos y por ende hacer de la ganadería de carne un renglón viable y sostenible en la región.  Abstract Water bottom rack intakes or tyrolean weirs are hydraulic structures widely used in our country given its good performance in mountain streams. In this structures the occurrence of spatially(gradually) varied flow over the intake does not allow an analytic solution to the variation of the water surface over the intake which has lead to its general sizing criteria uses empirical and constructive reasons. To make a more accurate design accounting with the flow variability over the structure, that facilitates the rack dimensioning of the intakes properly exploiting the water resource, Mostkow’s method is presented to calculate the water surface profile along with the graphs which in a simple manner allow to determine the minimum length of rack intakes in terms of the de discharge, the slope and the clogging percentage of the racks

Efficient Reduction in the Annual Investment Costs in AC Distribution Networks via Optimal Integration of Solar PV Sources Using the Newton Metaheuristic Algorithm

This research addresses the problem of the optimal placement and sizing of (PV) sources in medium voltage distribution grids through the application of the recently developed Newton metaheuristic optimization algorithm (NMA). The studied problem is formulated through a mixedinteger nonlinear programming model where the binary variables regard the installation of a PV source in a particular node, and the continuous variables are associated with power generations as well as the voltage magnitudes and angles, among others. To improve the performance of the NMA, we propose the implementation of a discrete–continuous codification where the discrete component deals with the location problem and the continuous component works with the sizing problem of the PV sources. The main advantage of the NMA is that it works based on the first and second derivatives of the fitness function considering an evolution formula that contains its current solution (xt i ) and the best current solution (xbest), where the former one allows location exploitation and the latter allows the global exploration of the solution space. To evaluate the fitness function and its derivatives, the successive approximation power flow method was implemented, which became the proposed solution strategy in a master–slave optimizer, where the master stage is governed by the NMA and the slave stage corresponds to the power flow method. Numerical results in the IEEE 34- and IEEE 85-bus systems show the effectiveness of the proposed optimization approach to minimize the total annual operative costs of the network when compared to the classical Chu and Beasley genetic algorithm and the MINLP solvers available in the general algebraic modeling system with reductions of 26.89% and 27.60% for each test feeder with respect to the benchmark cases.Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo Científico de la Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas subvención 1643-12-202

Higher Frequency of NK and CD4+ T-Cells in Mucosa and Potent Cytotoxic Response in HIV Controllers

ABSTARCT: HIV infection induces immune alterations, mainly in gut mucosa, where the main target cells reside. However, the evolution of the infection is variable among infected individuals, as evidenced by HIV controllers who exhibit low or undetectable viral load in the absence of treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency, phenotype and activity of T and NK cells in peripheral blood and gut mucosa in a cohort of Colombian HIV controllers. Blood and gut biopsies were included. The frequency and the activation status of T and NK cells were performed by flow cytometry. In addition, Gag-stimulated CD8+ T-cells and cytokine-stimulated NK cells were tested for cytotoxic activity. Finally, microbial translocation was measured by plasma lipopolysaccharide quantification. Compared with HIV-progressors, HIV controllers exhibited higher frequency of CD4+ T and NK cells, and lower expression of activation molecules in blood and mucosal immune cells, as well as lower microbial translocation. An increased production of molecules associated with cytotoxic activity of CD8+ T-cells in blood and mucosa and a higher percentage of polyfunctional CD8+ T cells in blood were also observed in HIV controllers. In addition, an increased activity of NK cells was observed in blood. These findings suggest that HIV controllers have a potent immune response, mainly mediated by cytotoxic cells that control HIV replication, which contribute to reducing alterations at the gut mucosa. Algunos aspectos del estilo de vida swinger en una muestra de sujetos en la ciudad de Medellín

Este articulo presenta resultados de investigación orientada a identificar cómo vivencian las parejas con una relación estable, la actividad Swinger, indagando cuáles son sus referentes de amor, fidelidad, relación de pareja e identificando como afecta a su relación los señalamientos culturales. Se utilizó un enfoque cualitativo, nivel descriptivo y método fenomenológico. Al interior de las parejas entrevistadas se perciben desigualdades en cuando a la motivación que les llevo a elegir el estilo swinger, los cual sugiere la existencia de una sutil manipulación y dominio por parte de uno de los miembros de la pareja. Igualmente, las parejas Swinger entrevistadas vivencian su sexualidad y estilo de vida de forma encubierta a la hora de enfrentarlo como un rótulo ante la sociedad

Propuesta de Supply Chain Management y Logística para la empresa Riopaila Castilla S.A.

A proposal for "Supply Chain Management and Logistics" is presented to the company Riopaila Castilla S.A., it is necessary to deepen issues such as the management of flows in the supply chain that the company has adopted and the results obtained, as well as the management of their inventories, the supply of raw materials and the distribution of the finished product. With the knowledge of the strategies and methodologies implemented inside and outside the company, to carry out all its logistics stages, we can propose improvements in the layout, in inventory management and the selection of suppliers that allow the company business growth and market positioning, this diploma chapter presents each link in the supply chain and the strategies implemented by the company, always seeking collaboration in the continuous improvement of the logistics processes necessary for the proper flow of the supply chain.Para permitirnos presentar una propuesta de “Supply Chain Management y Logística”, a la empresa Riopaila Castilla S.A., es necesario la profundización en temas como el manejo de los flujos en la cadena de suministro que la empresa ha adoptado y los resultados obtenidos, así como el manejo de sus inventarios, el suministro de materias primas y la distribución del producto terminado.
