O NIMBY chegou à agricultura... ou sempre cá esteve

Nesta apresentação procurou-se evidenciar que um conceito dificilmente substanciado tecnicamente pode prevalecer sobre um modelo com suporte científico. O conceito Not In My Back Yard (NIMBY) não se fundamenta na racionalidade mas muito na emocionalidade. A sua vertente mais recente, e podemos dizer radical, NOPE (Not On Planet Earth) alinha da mesma forma. No caso apresentado, no sentido de garantir a perenidade da capacidade produtiva dos solos, perante a inexistência dos tradicionais estrumes, propõe-se a agricultores dos Concelhos de Idanha-a-Nova, Fundão e Castelo Branco a disponibilização gratuita e sem custos de aplicação, de resíduos orgânicos tratados oriundos de estações de tratamento de águas residuais. A receptividade à proposta ficou-se pelos 20% da amostra representativa considerada, o que poderá inviabilizar planos de gestão de resíduos orgânicos que previamente assumem a predisposição dos agricultores para os receber. PRÁTICAS EMERGENTES NO DESIGN DO ARTEFACTO URBANO: INTERDISCIPLINARIDADE E CO-DESIGN

Este artigo explora as dimensões tangíveis e intangíveis da relação entre o mobiliário urbano, o espaço público e o seu utilizador. Procurou-se discutir esta relação através de uma reflexão sobre os conceitos e as características fundamentais no desenvolvimento de projectos interdisciplinares de design de mobiliário urbano. Abordou-se a importância dos elementos de mobiliário urbano na valorização e percepção da qualidade do espaço público e as várias dimensões subjacentes a estes artefactos. Também foi tratado o conceito de interdisciplinaridade integrando-o dentro da visão do co-design e como as novas formas de participação pública estão a alterar as práticas do design. Pretendeu-se compreender todo o potencial de inovação derivado de uma abordagem interdisciplinar ao design de mobiliário urbano e quais as implicações dessa acção.This article explores the tangible and intangible dimensions of the relationship between street furniture, public space and its user. This relationship is discussed through a reflection on the concepts and key features in the development of interdisciplinary street furniture design projects. It is addressed the importance of street furniture elements in the valorisation and perception of the quality of public space, and the various dimensions underlying these artefacts. It is also discussed the concept of interdisciplinarity, integrating it within the view of co-design and how the new forms of public participation are changing the practice of design. It was intended to understand the full innovation potential of an interdisciplinary approach to street furniture design and the implications of that action.Este artículo explora las dimensiones tangibles e intangibles de la relación entre el mobiliario urbano, el espacio público y su usuario. Tratamos de analizar esta relación a través de una reflexión sobre los conceptos y las características clave en el desarrollo de proyectos de diseño interdisciplinarios de mobiliario urbano. Efeito do programa FIFA 11+S no aumento da força muscular e da estabilidade e mobilidade articular em jovens atletas de andebol

Projeto de Graduação apresentado à Universidade Fernando Pessoa como parte dos requisitos para obtenção do grau de Licenciado em FisioterapiaIntrodução: as lesões do ombro são bastante comuns em andebolistas, devido a isso, torna-se essencial atuar preventivamente de forma a melhorar a força, a estabilidade e a mobilidade articular. Objetivo: analisar o efeito da aplicação do protocolo FIFA 11+S em jovens andebolistas no ganho de força muscular e na melhoria da estabilidade e mobilidade articular. Metodologia: a amostra foi constituída por 24 andebolistas, divididos em dois grupos, em que um dos grupos, além de ter efetuado o treino desportivo habitual, realizou o programa FIFA 11+S. Os parâmetros avaliados foram a força muscular quantificada pelo Seated Medicine Ball Throw e a estabilidade e mobilidade articular quantificada pelo Upper Quarter Y-Balance Test. Resultados: a aplicação do programa FIFA 11+S em jovens atletas de andebol durante 4 semanas não promoveu alterações significativas na força muscular dos músculos do ombro (p=0.453), nem na estabilidade e mobilidade da glenoumeral (0,083 <p <0,954). Conclusão: o programa FIFA 11+S não se mostrou efetivo no aumento da força muscular, da estabilidade e da mobilidade articular da glenoumeral em jovens atletas de andebol.Background: shoulder injuries are quite common in handball players, because of this, it is essential to act preventively in order to improve strength, stability and joint mobility. Objective: to analyse the effect of the application of the FIFA 11 + S protocol on young handball players in gaining muscle strength and improving stability and joint mobility. Methodology: the sample consisted of 24 handball players, divided in two groups, in which one of the groups, besides having carried out the usual sports training, realized the program FIFA 11 + S. The parameters evaluated were the muscle strength quantified by Seated Medicine Ball Throw and the stability and joint mobility quantified by the Upper Quarter Y-Balance Test. Results: the application of the FIFA 11 + S program in young handball players for 4 weeks did not promote significant changes in muscle strength of the shoulder muscles (p = 0.453) or in the stability and mobility of glenohumeral (0.083 <p <0.954).Conclusion: the FIFA 11 + S program is not effective in increasing the muscle strength, stability and mobility of glenohumeral joint in young handball athletes.N/

Outrora dominado por ameaças provenientes de Estados-nação, o cenário global actual, dominado por uma rápida mudança de poderes que nos apresenta uma interacção complexa entre múltiplos actores, onde inimigos desconhecidos, anteriormente bem identificados, é actualmente controlado por grupos terroristas bem preparados e bem organizados. Hezbollah é reconhecido como um dos grupos terroristas mais capazes, com uma extensa rede fora do Líbano dedicada a tráfico de droga, armas e seres humanos, tal como o branqueamento de capitais para financiar o terrorismo, representando um grande foco de instabilidade à segurança. Como instrumento de Estado, os serviços de informações detêm a capacidade de estar na linha da frente na prevenção e combate ao terrorismo. Todavia, para compreender este fenómeno é necessário analisar os actores desta ameaça. À luz desta conjuntura, esta dissertação está dividida em três capítulos principais que visam responder às seguintes questões fundamentais: O que é o terrorismo? Como opera um grupo terrorista transnacional? Será que os serviços de informações têm as ferramentas necessárias para prevenir e combater estas ameaças?Once dominated by threats from nation-states, the current global scenario is dominated by a fast shift of powers that present us an intricate interaction between multiple actors, where faceless, unknown enemies, once well known to us, is currently dominated by well-organised, well-prepared terrorist groups. Hezbollah is recognised as one of the most capable terrorist groups with an extensive network outside Lebanon dedicated to drug, weapons and human trafficking, as well as money laundering to finance terrorism, posing as a vast source of security instability. As a State instrument, the Intelligence services hold the ability to be on the frontline of preventing and combating terrorism. Nonetheless, to comprehend this phenomenon it is necessary to analyse the actors of this menace. In light of this conjuncture, this dissertation is divided in three main chapters aiming to answer the following key issues: What is terrorism? How does a transnational terrorist group function? Digital informed consent: Possibilities and challenges in biobanks for health research

Biobanks are key infrastructures in biomedical research, storing and providing biological samples, personal and clinical data. Informed con- sent is a central piece of the process, as a means to respect each parti- cipants’ dignity, integrity and to acknowledge their capacity to express autonomous decisions. Providing adequate information, while ensuring the voluntariness of their decision are essential to an effective consent. Requesting informed consent usually takes place in the context of heal- thcare, where paper forms are still widely preferred, when not manda- tory and when person to person relationships are crucial. As biobanks are moving fast to implement automated protocols from biological samples processing to data collection, it is relevant to discuss the challenges posed by the digitalization of informed consent. 1º Congresso Internacional Epistemologias do Sul: perspectivas críticas - 7 a 9 de novembro de 2016, realizada pela Universidade Federal da Integração Latino-Americana (UNILA).Vivemos um tempo de perguntas fortes e respostas fracas. Como alerta Boaventura de Sousa Santos (2009), atravessamos um período de transição paradigmática, que testemunha a crise da hegemonia do modelo sociocultural da modernidade ocidental. Nesse sentido é que perguntas fortes – como o que fazer perante as mudanças climáticas e a crescente escassez de água do planeta, por exemplo – encontra respostas insatisfatórias dentro dos espaços hegemônicos, o que denuncia a urgência do diálogo com as culturas subalternizadas e derrotadas pelo processo colonial

The mixed impact of design thinking on business collaborations

The present work project investigates the implications of design thinking on an interbusiness collaborative project, unveiling both the benefits and fragilities that derive from the use of such methodology within the mentioned context. The study is organized in two parts. The first one starts with a literature review on the two relevant frames of reference – design thinking and business collaboration. It proceeds to the creation of a conceptual framework to assess the potential value of the design-based approach. The second part focuses on the practical application of to the newly developed instrument to the inTRAIN project – R&D for railway interiors

HISTORIC DESIGNS IN PLACE MAKING: POETICS AND POLITICS OF STREET FURNITURE, 1755‐1938

At the present time, public spaces are seen as the support of collective life. They reflect the inhabitant's culture and create the image of a place. They include a continuous public realm that reflects the image and identity of the city as it accommodates the many activities - individually or in‐group ‐ that make up public life and social interactions. The quality and image of these public spaces in the public perception is created by the cohesiveness of the public realm – the facades, squares, streets, open spaces, etc. – together with the street furniture contained within their structure. This paper will briefly describe the urban development of the city of Lisbon after the big earthquake in 1755 till near 1938, and the emergence of street furniture within this scenery. It will also identify the importance of knowing the relevance and effects of historical urban furniture elements in today’s inhabitants’ local memory and to understand its influence in users and in the overall environment

Competitive destination analysis in Southern European countries

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to analyse the competitiveness of the European Union Member States of Southern Europe (France, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain) as tourist destinations for European Union Member States of Central and Northern Europe (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, The Netherlands, Ireland, Sweden and the UK). Design/methodology/approach – Application of the market share analysis tool, initially developed by Faulkner, using secondary data from Eurostat – statistical office of the European communities. Findings – The results obtained show that France, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain present distinct levels of competitiveness for the various generating countries, with changes having occurred in the period between 1999 and 2007. Originality/value – The paper offers refreshment of Faulkner's tool and an insight into tourist flows in Europe as a tool for tourism and hospitality managers
