A good and balanced learning process will emphasize the mutual interaction between teachers and students by using teaching materials, methods and learning media that exist as learning resources. SFE expects students to understand the material presented by the teacher because the students will later re-explain the material they understand. Using a qualitative approach with Classroom Action Research (CAR). Data were collected by analysis of student activity observation sheet, documentation, field note, pre-test and post-test in every cycle. Data analysis in this research is done by presenting data, reducing data and draw a conclusion. Research procedure through four stages: action planning stage, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The results of the research are; (1) the application of learning with SFE on the economic subjects of class X across the economic interests of SMAN 9 Malang in the first cycle has not run optimally and there are still many shortcomings. In the second cycle, the application runs better where the students have started to be active and conducive; (2) during the learning process with the SFE strategy of active class X students across the economic interests of SMAN 9 Malang increased; (3) during the learning process with SFE learning outcomes of students of class X across the economic interests of SMAN 9 Malang increased; (4) during the learning process with SFE learning outcomes of students of class X across the economic interests of SMAN 9 Malang increased

There have been concerns on the galloping population growth and its effects on human beings. The world’s population is increasing with significant social and economic implications at the individual, family, and societal levels. Family planning seems to be the potent cornerstone of a worldwide strategy to slow down population growth. However, in developing countries, the perception of the core population is not clear considering the hyper fertility rate in these countries. This study, a household survey, sampled 424 married women, and conducted five in-depth interviews, to examine the relationship between family planning methods and high fertility rate among married women in Nigeria. Health Belief Model was used to explain factors that influenced the perceptions of married women about family planning. Data collected were analysed using percentages for univariate analysis and chi square to test relationships between the variables. The results revealed that 95.5% of the respondents had heard about family planning while 53.3% stated that they had never used it. A greater percentage of them admitted that they refused to adopt family planning for fear of side effects. About 51% of them stated that money was a barrier to the adoption of family planning while 35% of the respondents claimed that their religion did not support it. Linear regression results revealed that significant relationships existed between family perceptions (p< 0.013), and sustainable development variables. Family planning was seen as an important preventive measure against infant and maternal mortality. The study concluded that culture, socio-economic factors and poor knowledge about family planning were major determinants of perceptions about family planning, and its utilisation. The study recommended increased family planning talks during clinical meetings with mothers, and empowerment of women in decision making about family planning within households

The research was used Research and Development Approach (R&D). The procedure of the research was applied reffering to design and development research according to Borg and Gall that contained 6 steps of the development such as: (1) research and information collecting, (2) planning, (3) develop preliminary form of product, (4) preliminary field testing, (5) main product revision, (6) main field testing, (7) operational product revision, (8) Operational field testing. The internal validation of learning strategy through cooperative learning type model Group Investigation using the Flip chart was involved the experts of learning, the experts of learning media, the experts of material and practitioner such as the economic teacher in this school.. Though, the external validation was done by tryout Learning strategy through cooperative learning type model Group Investigation using the Flip chart that involved the students of X IPS class. The subject of this research was the all of eleven grade social sciences MAN Nurul Iman Dasan Makam in academic year of 2014/2015 the total of the students was 44. In this research, the sample technique was taken by sampling population technique that was the technique to decide samples whether all member of population became the samples. The analysis technique data was used kualitatif descriptive, descriptive analysis and statistic inferential analysis. The result of the research showed that: (1) The learning strategies through cooperative learning type model Group Investigation using the Flip chart was stated valid based on the validity test by the experts, (2) The learning strategies through cooperative learning type model Group Investigation using the Flip chart was proved effective to be implemented in learning activity so that it could be to increase the economic study for students.

Optimising economic, environmental, and social objectives: a goal-programming approach in the food sector

The business-decision environment is increasingly complicated by the emergence of competing economic, environmental, and social goals, a notion typified by the current pressures of global economic instability and climate-change targets. Trade-offs are often unclear and contributions by different actors and stakeholders in the supply chain may be unequal but, due to the interdependencies between businesses and stakeholders in relation to total environmental or social impact, a whole chain, simultaneous, and strategic approach is required. After a review of relevant literature and the identification of knowledge gaps, the author introduces and illustrates the use of goal programming as a technique that could facilitate this approach and uses real case evidence for alternative food supply chain strategies, at local, regional, and national levels. It is shown that the method can simplify a complex simultaneous decision situation into a useful and constructive decision and planning framework. Results show how a priori beliefs may be challenged and how operational and resource efficiency could be improved through the use of such a model, which enables a broad stakeholder appreciation and the opportunity to explore and test new environmental or social challenges

Warehouse manpower planning strategies in times of financial crisis: evidence from logistics service providers and retailers in the Netherlands

The economic crisis that is experienced in Europe has a large influence on transport and logistics companies. Since turnover typically drops strongly during a crisis, companies try to reduce costs in order to survive. The study reported in this paper has investigated how manpower planning in warehouses has been used to counter effects of the crisis and what the results are of the measures taken. A survey was carried out among warehouses run by retailers and logistics service providers. The results of the survey show that there is a significant relation between a decrease in turnover and the four investigated manpower planning strategies. Furthermore, the study shows that the most effective manpower planning strategies are flexible planning of employees and balancing the workload. Hence, the study concludes that in particular better operational planning is a key strategy to counter the effects of the financial crisis, which is an important insight for the management of warehouses

Resource determinants of strategy and performance: the case of British exporters

Get PDF
This study adopts the RBV of the firm in order to identify critical advantage-generating resources and capabilities with strong positive export strategy and performance implications. The proposed export performance model is tested using a structural equation modeling approach on a sample of 356 British exporters. We examine the individual as well as the concurrent (simultaneous) direct and indirect effects of five resource bundles on export performance. We find that four resources/capabilities: managerial, knowledge, planning, and technology, have a significant positive direct effect on export performance, while relational and physical resources exhibited no unique positive effect. We also find that the firm’s export strategy mediates the resource-performance nexus in the case of managerial and knowledge-based resources. The theoretical and methodological grounding of this study contributes to the advancement of export related research by providing better specification of the nature of the effects – direct or indirect – of particular resource factors on export performance

Defining and assessing the transformational nature of smart city governance: Insights from four European cases

Get PDF
Smart cities are a new approach to urban development based on the extensive use of information and communication technologies and on the promotion of environmental sustainability, economic development and innovation. The article is aimed at discussing whether the adoption of a smart city approach entails the transformation of existing institutional structures and administrative practices. To this end, four cases of European smart cities are analysed: Amsterdam, Barcelona, Turin and Vienna. The article describes their models of governance, investigates the level of transformation that occurred in their governmental structures, outlines the main drawbacks and identifies possible connections with the emergent paradigm of the New Public Governance
