Prototyping Incentive-based Resource Assignment for Clouds in Community Networks

    Get PDF
Wireless community networks are a successful example of a collective where communities operate ICT infrastructure and provide IP connectivity based on the principle of reciprocal resource sharing of network bandwidth. This sharing, however, has not extended to computing and storage resources, resulting in very few applications and services which are currently deployed within community networks. Cloud computing, as in today's Internet, has made it common to consume resources provided by public clouds providers, but such cloud infrastructures have not materialized within community networks. We analyse in this paper socio-technical characteristics of community networks in order to derive scenarios for community clouds. Based on an architecture for such a community cloud, we implement a prototype for the incentive-driven resource assignment component, deploy it in a testbed of community network nodes, and evaluate its behaviour experimentally. Our evaluation gives insight into how the deployed prototype components regulate the consumption of cloud resources taking into account the users' contributions, and how this regulation affects the system usage. Our results suggest a further integration of this regulation component into current cloud management platforms in order to open them up for the operation of an ecosystem of community cloud

Building cloud-based healthcare data mining services

The linkage between healthcare service and cloud computing techniques has drawn much attention lately. Up to the present, most works focus on IT system migration and the management of distributed healthcare data rather than taking advantage of information hidden in the data. In this paper, we propose to explore healthcare data via cloud-based healthcare data mining services. Specifically, we propose a cloud-based healthcare data mining framework for healthcare data mining service development. Under such framework, we further develop a cloud-based healthcare data mining service to predict patients future length of stay in hospital

Cloud Computing is a technology that provides services to users such as software as a service, platform as a service and storage as a service. These services are provided based on Pay-per-Use basis so these services are cost effective and flexible. Due to this advantage of cloud computing, the individuals as well as the enterprises are getting motivated to shift their local sensitive and huge data management system to cloud storage. But the sensitive data has to be encrypted before outsourcing in order to provide security to the data. After the data has outsourced it has to be utilized efficiently without losing the originality as it was stored. In this paper we provide a mechanism called ”Multi-keyword Ranked Search over Encrypted cloud data” that gives better and efficient searched result over the encrypted data taking multiple keywords as query, which obsoletes the tradition searching scheme based on plain text search. And we use a “Coordinate Matching” technique to find as many matches as possible and use “inner product similarity” to retrieve relevance search results. So if user wants to retrieve the data stored on cloud, he can specify the multiple keywords and rank for relevance retrieval of results. Finally results the user with top ranked files. Important for cloud services the cloud computing share throw multiple clients , and it is more important to allocate resources for cloud service provider , cloud computing is an infrastructure that provides on demand network services , in relation , the most important feature of the cloud services is that user’s data are hosted in remote . While taking benefit of this new emerging technology, users’ fear of losing command of their own data, is becoming a noteworthy hurdle to the extensive implementation of cloud services. Cloud service provider module is to process data owner request for storing data files and application and provides cloud users log details to data owner for audit purpose, to address this problem framework based on information accountability to keep track and trial of the authentic handling of the users’ data in the cloud. The system proposed that the Data can be fully tracked by the owner and follow up the service agreements by depending on many items which access, usage control and management

Architectural design of IoT-cloud computing integration platform

An integration between the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing can potentially leverage the utilization of both sides. As the IoT based system is mostly composed by the interconnection of pervasive and constrained devices, it can take a benefit of virtually unlimited resources of cloud entity i.e storage and computation services to store and process its sensed data. On the other hand, the cloud computing system may get benefit from IoT by broadening its reach to real world environment applications. In order to incarnate this idea, a cloud software platform is needed to provide an integration layer between the IoT and cloud computing taking into account the heterogenity of network communication protocols as well as the security and data management issues. In this study, an architectural design of IoT-cloud platform for IoT and cloud computing integration is presented. The proposed software platform can be decomposed into five main components namely cloud-to-device interface, authentication, data management, and cloud-to-user interface component. In general, the cloud-to-device interface acts as a data transmission endpoint between the whole cloud platform system and its IoT devices counterpart. Before a session of data transmission established, the communication interface contact the authentication component to make sure that the corresponding IoT device is legitimate before it allowed for sending the sensor data to cloud environment. Notice that a valid IoT device can be registered to the cloud system through web console component. The received sensor data are then collected in data storage component. Any stored data can be further analyzed by data processing component. User or any developed applications can then retrieve collected data, either raw or processed data, through API data access and web console

Viriot: A cloud of things that offers iot infrastructures as a service

Many cloud providers offer IoT services that simplify the collection and processing of IoT information. However, the IoT infrastructure composed of sensors and actuators that produces this information remains outside the cloud; therefore, application developers must install, connect and manage the cloud. This requirement can be a market barrier, especially for small/medium software companies that cannot afford the infrastructural costs associated with it and would only prefer to focus on IoT application developments. Motivated by the wish to eliminate this barrier, this paper proposes a Cloud of Things platform, called VirIoT, which fully brings the Infrastructure as a service model typical of cloud computing to the world of Internet of Things. VirIoT provides users with virtual IoT infrastructures (Virtual Silos) composed of virtual things, with which users can interact through dedicated and standardized broker servers in which the technology can be chosen among those offered by the platform, such as oneM2M, NGSI and NGSI-LD. VirIoT allows developers to focus their efforts exclusively on IoT applications without worrying about infrastructure management and allows cloud providers to expand their IoT services portfolio. VirIoT uses external things and cloud/edge computing resources to deliver the IoT virtualization services. Its open-source architecture is microservice-based and runs on top of a distributed Kubernetes platform with nodes in central and edge data centers. The architecture is scalable, efficient and able to support the continuous integration of heterogeneous things and IoT standards, taking care of interoperability issues. Using a VirIoT deployment spanning data centers in Europe and Japan, we conducted a performance evaluation with a two-fold objective: showing the efficiency and scalability of the architecture; and leveraging VirIoT’s ability to integrate different IoT standards in order to make a fair comparison of some open-source IoT Broker implementations, namely Mobius for oneM2M, Orion for NGSIv2, Orion-LD and Scorpio for NGSI-LD

Cloud computing market forecasts and technology trends confirm that Cloud is an IT disrupting phenomena and that the number of companies with multi-cloud strategy is continuously growing. Cost optimization and increased competitiveness of companies that exploit multi-cloud will only be possible when they are able to leverage multiple cloud offerings, while mastering both the complexity of multiple cloud provider management and the protection against the higher exposure to attacks that multi-cloud brings. This paper presents the MUSA Security modelling language for multi-cloud applications which is based on the Cloud Application Modelling and Execution Language (CAMEL) to overcome the lack of expressiveness of state-of-the-art modelling languages towards easing: a) the automation of distributed deployment, b) the computation of composite Service Level Agreements (SLAs) that include security and privacy aspects, and c) the risk analysis and service match-making taking into account not only functionality and business aspects of the cloud services, but also security aspects. The paper includes the description of the MUSA Modeller as the Web tool supporting the modelling with the MUSA modelling language. The paper introduces also the MUSA SecDevOps framework in which the MUSA Modeller is integrated and with which the MUSA Modeller will be validated. The MUSA project leading to this paper has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation pro- gramme under grant agreement No 644429
