    Neural Network-Based Adaptive Control for Spacecraft Under Actuator Failures and Input Saturations

    In this article, we develop attitude tracking control methods for spacecraft as rigid bodies against model uncertainties, external disturbances, subsystem faults/failures, and limited resources. A new intelligent control algorithm is proposed using approximations based on radial basis function neural networks (RBFNNs) and adopting the tunable parameter-based variable structure (TPVS) control techniques. By choosing different adaptation parameters elaborately, a series of control strategies are constructed to handle the challenging effects due to actuator faults/failures and input saturations. With the help of the Lyapunov theory, we show that our proposed methods guarantee both finite-time convergence and fault-tolerance capability of the closed-loop systems. Finally, benefits of the proposed control methods are illustrated through five numerical examples

    Nonlinear control for Two-Link flexible manipulator

    Recently the use of robot manipulators has been increasing in many applications such as medical applications, automobile, construction, manufacturing, military, space, etc. However, current rigid manipulators have high inertia and use actuators with large energy consumption. Moreover, rigid manipulators are slow and have low payload-to arm-mass ratios because link deformation is not allowed. The main advantages of flexible manipulators over rigid manipulators are light in weight, higher speed of operation, larger workspace, smaller actuator, lower energy consumption and lower cost. However, there is no adequate closed-form solutions exist for flexible manipulators. This is mainly because flexible dynamics are modeled with partial differential equations, which give rise to infinite dimensional dynamical systems that are, in general, not possible to represent exactly or efficiently on a computer which makes modeling a challenging task. In addition, if flexibility nature wasn\u27t considered, there will be calculation errors in the calculated torque requirement for the motors and in the calculated position of the end-effecter. As for the control task, it is considered as a complex task since flexible manipulators are non-minimum phase system, under-actuated system and Multi-Input/Multi-Output (MIMO) nonlinear system. This thesis focuses on the development of dynamic formulation model and three control techniques aiming to achieve accurate position control and improving dynamic stability for Two-Link Flexible Manipulators (TLFMs). LQR controller is designed based on the linearized model of the TLFM; however, it is applied on both linearized and nonlinear models. In addition to LQR, Backstepping and Sliding mode controllers are designed as nonlinear control approaches and applied on both the nonlinear model of the TLFM and the physical system. The three developed control techniques are tested through simulation based on the developed dynamic formulation model using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Stability and performance analysis were conducted and tuned to obtain the best results. Then, the performance and stability results obtained through simulation are compared. Finally, the developed control techniques were implemented and analyzed on the 2-DOF Serial Flexible Link Robot experimental system from Quanser and the results are illustrated and compared with that obtained through simulation

    On finite-time anti-saturated proximity control with a tumbling non-cooperative space target

    For the challenging problem that a spacecraft approaching a tumbling target with non-cooperative maneuver, an anti-saturated proximity control method is proposed in this paper. First, a brand-new appointed-time convergent performance function is developed via exploring Bezier curve to quantitatively characterize the transient and steady-state behaviors of the pose tracking error system. The major advantage of the proposed function is that the actuator saturation phenomenon at the beginning can be effectively reduced. Then, an anti-saturated pose tracking controller is devised along with an adaptive saturation compensator. Wherein, the finite-time stability of both the pose and its velocity error signals are guaranteed simultaneously in the presence of actuator saturation. Finally, two groups of illustrative examples are organized and verify that the close-range proximity is effectively realized even with unknown target maneuver

    Çalışmamız kapsamında, eklemleri fırçasız doğru akım (DA) motorları kullanılarak sürülen ve hem dinamik hem de kinematik modelinde parametrik belirsizlikler içeren robot kolları için, eyleyici dinamikleri denetleyici tasarımına dahil edilerek uyarlamalı görev uzayı takip denetleyicisi tasarımı gerçekleştirilmiştir. Denetleyici tasarımının doğrudan görev uzayında gerçekleştirilmesi sayesinde pozisyon seviyesinde ters kinematiğin hesaplanmasına ihtiyaç duyulmamaktadır. Geliştirilen tam durum geri beslemeli ve ivme ölçümlerine ihtiyaç duymayan denetleyici yapısı için Lyapunov tabanlı kararlılık analizi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Kararlılık analizinin sonucuna göre robot kolunun hem dinamik hem de kinematik modelindeki parametrik belirsizliklere rağmen görev uzayı takip hatasının asimptotik kararlılığı ve denetleyici girişleri de dahil olmak üzere sistemde kullanılan tüm işaretlerin sınırlılığı garanti edilmiştir. Ek olarak önerilen yöntemin performansını ve uygulanabilirliğini göstermek amacıyla düzlemde çalışan, iki serbestlik dereceli ve eklemleri fırçasız DA motorları ile sürülen robot kolunun dinamik modeli kullanılarak benzetim çalışması gerçekleştirilmiştir

    Fractional Order Fault Tolerant Control - A Survey

    In this paper, a comprehensive review of recent advances and trends regarding Fractional Order Fault Tolerant Control (FOFTC) design is presented. This novel robust control approach has been emerging in the last decade and is still gathering great research efforts mainly because of its promising results and outcomes. The purpose of this study is to provide a useful overview for researchers interested in developing this interesting solution for plants that are subject to faults and disturbances with an obligation for a maintained performance level. Throughout the paper, the various works related to FOFTC in literature are categorized first by considering their research objective between fault detection with diagnosis and fault tolerance with accommodation, and second by considering the nature of the studied plants depending on whether they are modelized by integer order or fractional order models. One of the main drawbacks of these approaches lies in the increase in complexity associated with introducing the fractional operators, their approximation and especially during the stability analysis. A discussion on the main disadvantages and challenges that face this novel fractional order robust control research field is given in conjunction with motivations for its future development. This study provides a simulation example for the application of a FOFTC against actuator faults in a Boeing 747 civil transport aircraft is provided to illustrate the efficiency of such robust control strategies

    Adaptive backstepping nonsingular terminal sliding-mode attitude control of flexible airships with actuator faults

    This paper studies the attitude tracking control of a flexible airship subjected to wind disturbances, actuator saturation and control surface faults. Efficient flexible airship models, including elastic deformation, rigid body motions, and their coupling, are established via Lagrange theory. A fast-nonsingular terminal sliding-mode (NTSM) combined with a backstepping control is proposed for the problem. The benefits of this approach are NTSM merits of high robustness, fast transient response, and finite time convergence, as well as the backstepping control in terms of globally asymptotic stability. However, the major limitation of the backstepping NTSM is that its design procedure is dependent on the prior knowledge of the bound values of the disturbance and faults. To overcome this limitation, a wind observer is designed to compensate for the effect of the wind disturbances, an anti-windup compensator is designed to compensate for actuator saturation, and an adaptive fault estimator is designed to estimate the faults of the control surfaces. Globally exponential stability of the closed-loop control system is guaranteed by using the Lyapunov stability theory. Finally, simulation results demonstrate effectiveness and advantages of the proposed control for the Skyship-500 flexible airship, even in the presence of unknown wind disturbances, control surface faults, and different stiffness variants

    A Closed-Loop Brain Stimulation Control System Design Based on Brain-Machine Interface for Epilepsy

    In this study, a closed-loop brain stimulation control system scheme for epilepsy seizure abatement is designed by brain-machine interface (BMI) technique. In the controller design process, the practical parametric uncertainties involving cerebral blood flow, glucose metabolism, blood oxygen level dependence, and electromagnetic disturbances in signal control are considered. An appropriate transformation is introduced to express the system in regular form for design and analysis. Then, sufficient conditions are developed such that the sliding motion is asymptotically stable. Combining Caputo fractional order definition and neural network (NN), a finite time fractional order sliding mode (FFOSM) controller is designed to guarantee reachability of the sliding mode. The stability and reachability analysis of the closed-loop tracking control system gives the guideline of parameter selection, and simulation results based on comprehensive comparisons are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed approach

    This thesis aims to modeling and robust controlling of a flying robot of quadrotor type. Where we focused in this thesis on quadrotor unmanned Aerial Vehicle (QUAV). Intelligent nonlinear controllers and intelligent fractional-order nonlinear controllers are designed to control. The QUAV system is considered as MIMO large-scale system that can be divided on six interconnected single-input–single-output (SISO) subsystems, which define one DOF, i.e., three-angle subsystems with three position subsystems. In addition, nonlinear models is considered and assumed to suffer from the incidence of parameter uncertainty. Every parameters such as mass, inertia of the system are assumed completely unknown and change over time without prior information. Next, basing on nonlinear, Fractional-Order nonlinear and the intelligent adaptive approximate techniques a control law is established for all subsystems. The stability is performed by Lyapunov method and getting the desired output with respect to the desired input. The modeling and control is done using MATLAB/Simulink. At the end, the simulation tests are performed to that, the designed controller is able to maintain best performance of the QUAV even in the presence of unknown dynamics, parametric uncertainties and external disturbance

    Backstepping sliding-mode control of stratospheric airships using disturbance-observer

    In the presence of unknown disturbances and model parameter uncertainties, this paper develop a nonlinear backstepping sliding-mode controller (BSMC) for trajectory tracking control of a stratospheric airship using a disturbance-observer (DO). Compared with the conventional sliding mode surface (SMS) constructed by a linear combination of the errors, the new SMS manifold is selected as the last back-step error to improve independence of the adjustment of the controller gains. Furthermore, a nonlinear disturbance-observer is designed to process unknown disturbance inputs and improve the BSMC performances. The closed-loop system of trajectory tracking control plant is proved to be globally asymptotically stable by using Lyapunov theory. By comparing with traditional backstepping control and SMC design, the results obtained demonstrate the capacity of the airship to execute a realistic trajectory tracking mission, even in the presence of unknown disturbances, and aerodynamic coefficient uncertaintie
