    World Class Sustainable Supply Chain Management: critical review and further research directions

    Purpose Sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) has attracted considerable interest among academics and practitioners. The purpose of this paper is to present a critical review of the literature, to identify missing links, to argue for the use of world class SSCM (WCSSCM) through a framework, and suggest further research directions. Design/methodology/approach In the paper the authors have undertaken an extensive review of literature and classified articles using a novel classification scheme. Findings Through the extensive review and identification of research gaps, the paper identifies significant differences between definitions and methodologies in the SSCM literature; and argues for “WCSSCM.” This term is elaborated on via a theoretical framework in which 18 dimensions are classified under six constructs of SSCM. Furthermore, a list of potential research directions for WCSSCM is discussed. Research limitations/implications The research is an attempt to critically review literature, argue for WCSSCM, and develop a theoretical framework. Originality/value The paper offers a new approach to SSCM literature, arguing for WCSSCM through a framework, and providing further research directions

    Managing Cybersecurity and Other Fraud Risks in Small and Medium Enterprises – A Framework to Build a Fraud Management Program in Times of Digitalization

    Fraud, particularly cybercrime, is an emerging worldwide risk that targets not only large but also small and medium enterprises (SME). SMEs are especially vulnerable because they often have limited resources in terms of money, staff, and IT knowledge. Because of the role SMEs play in the European economy, reducing their vulnerability has gained more importance. Therefore, this study considers the question of how to minimize fraud in SME-related digital and socio-technical work environments. Based on a design science research approach, we developed a fraud management framework to allow SMEs to identify individual fraud risks and establish an individual fraud management program based on the framework at hand. To be adaptable to different industries and sizes of SMEs, we propose a modular concept of documents and workshop material that includes occupational and cyber-fraud cases because previous fraud management concepts often handled only one of them

    Trust and open book accounting

    This thesis presents the research programme that was conducted to examine the relationship between suppliers and retailers in the UK Grocery Sector. The research focused on Trust and Open Book Accounting, with a detailed examination of a selection of suppliers to RetailCo – one of the big 4 UK Grocery Retailers. Primary data was collected from some twenty suppliers to RetailCo, which built on the industry survey made available to the researcher from the Advantage Mirror report on RetailCo. Strong Structuration Theory was used as the theoretical lens for the analysis of the case evidence, with Abduction being the methodological approach. A number of conclusions were drawn from the analysed data, which included the very real differences in the relationship styles exhibited by own-label suppliers from that shown by almost all branded suppliers. The own-label suppliers who enjoyed the most positive relationships with RetailCo were those who had adopted an Innovation-Led strategy. This helped buyers to reach their KPI targets, through the sharing of cost data, resulting in greater profitability from cost reduction and the possibility of additional innovation-led sales. The various forms of Open Book were examined, with real benefits of more collaborative working reported by some suppliers who were involved in forms of Open Book programmes

    Teachers\u27 Perceptions on the Implementation of Behavioral Intervention Initiatives in Alternate Schools: A Phenomenological Study

    The purpose of this qualitative transcendental phenomenological study was to understand the teachers\u27 perceptions of the implementation of behavior intervention initiatives in alternative schools. The theory guiding this study was the Concerns-Based Adoption Model (CBAM) framework, as it suggested that teachers\u27 attitudes and behaviors in learning or implementing new philosophies, resources, and methodologies would be addressed to proceed to higher levels of curriculum implementation. This phenomenological study investigated 13 teachers\u27 perceptions of implementing behavior intervention initiatives at several alternative school campuses in the United States. Qualitative data collection methods included individual interviews, a focus group, and questionnaires with experienced teachers who had implemented behavior intervention initiatives within the alternative school. The data analysis process selected was the Moustakas (1994) phenomenological model was described using phenomenological reduction in the following sections. (a) topic bracketing, (b) horizontalization, (c) theme clustering, (d) textural description of the experience, (e) structural descriptions of the experience, and (f) textural-structural synthesis. By analyzing and culling data, three themes emerged as the findings from this study that showed to be the influence of such outcomes in alternative school settings included: (a) misaligned interventions, (b) lack of teacher buy-in, and (c) team collaboration

    Green supply chain practices and environmental performance in Brazil: Survey, case studies, and implications for B2B

    This article examines whether or not customers cooperate in organisations' environmental performance, in what circumstances it happens; and how customers can collaborate with organisations in order to they improve their environmental performance. This research uses both the Ecological Modernisation (EM) and the Resource Dependence Theory (RDT) to analyse the effects of external Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) practices, namely, ‘Cooperation with Customers’ (CC) and ‘Green Purchasing’ (GP) on the Environmental Performance (EP) of organisations. A multi-method research is used, combining a survey and multiple-case studies of Brazilian organisations. The main results and contributions of this research include: (a) the Brazilian setting, in the context of EM, provides incentives for adopting GSCM practices, especially CC practices; (b) Brazilian organisations depend more on customers than on suppliers to improve EP; and (c) an original matrix for a better understanding of the roles of suppliers and customers to achieve a better EP through a GSCM approach is proposed. This paper provides an extension to EM and RDT theories applied to green operations management by showing that external GSCM can improve EP and such process depends more on CC than GP. Implications for B2B are highlighted. © 2017 Elsevier Inc
