    VIKOR Technique:A Systematic Review of the State of the Art Literature on Methodologies and Applications

    The main objective of this paper is to present a systematic review of the VlseKriterijuska Optimizacija I Komoromisno Resenje (VIKOR) method in several application areas such as sustainability and renewable energy. This study reviewed a total of 176 papers, published in 2004 to 2015, from 83 high-ranking journals; most of which were related to Operational Research, Management Sciences, decision making, sustainability and renewable energy and were extracted from the “Web of Science and Scopus” databases. Papers were classified into 15 main application areas. Furthermore, papers were categorized based on the nationalities of authors, dates of publications, techniques and methods, type of studies, the names of the journals and studies purposes. The results of this study indicated that more papers on VIKOR technique were published in 2013 than in any other year. In addition, 13 papers were published about sustainability and renewable energy fields. Furthermore, VIKOR and fuzzy VIKOR methods, had the first rank in use. Additionally, the Journal of Expert Systems with Applications was the most significant journal in this study, with 27 publications on the topic. Finally, Taiwan had the first rank from 22 nationalities which used VIKOR technique

    Risk Assessment and Management of Petroleum Transportation Systems Operations

    Petroleum Transportation Systems (PTSs) have a significant impact on the flow of crude oil within a Petroleum Supply Chain (PSC), due to the great demand on this natural product. Such systems are used for safe movement of crude and/or refined products from starting points (i.e. production sites or storage tanks), to their final destinations, via land or sea transportation. PTSs are vulnerable to several risks because they often operate in a dynamic environment. Due to this environment, many potential risks and uncertainties are involved. Not only having a direct effect on the product flow within PSC, PTSs accidents could also have severe consequences for the humans, businesses, and the environment. Therefore, safe operations of the key systems such as port, ship and pipeline, are vital for the success of PTSs. This research introduces an advanced approach to ensure safety of PTSs. This research proposes multiple network analysis, risk assessment, uncertainties treatment and decision making techniques for dealing with potential hazards and operational issues that are happening within the marine ports, ships, or pipeline transportation segments within one complete system. The main phases of the developed framework are formulated in six steps. In the first phase of the research, the hazards in PTSs operations that can lead to a crude oil spill are identified through conducting an extensive review of literature and experts’ knowledge. In the second phase, a Fuzzy Rule-Based Bayesian Reasoning (FRBBR) and Hugin software are applied in the new context of PTSs to assess and prioritise the local PTSs failures as one complete system. The third phase uses Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) in order to determine the weight of PTSs local factors. In the fourth phase, network analysis approach is used to measure the importance of petroleum ports, ships and pipelines systems globally within Petroleum Transportation Networks (PTNs). This approach can help decision makers to measure and detect the critical nodes (ports and transportation routes) within PTNs. The fifth phase uses an Evidential Reasoning (ER) approach and Intelligence Decision System (IDS) software, to assess hazards influencing on PTSs as one complete system. This research developed an advance risk-based framework applied ER approach due to its ability to combine the local/internal and global/external risk analysis results of the PTSs. To complete the cycle of this study, the best mitigating strategies are introduced and evaluated by incorporating VIseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) and AHP to rank the risk control options. The novelty of this framework provides decision makers with realistic and flexible results to ensure efficient and safe operations for PTSs

    The paper develops an innovative risk evaluation methodology to address the challenges of multicriteria decision-making problem of project evaluation and selection. The methodology considers the fuzzy analytic network process (FANP) to incorporate the interdependencies of different risk factors, and failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) to conduct the rating analysis of projects to develop the decision matrix. Finally, evaluation based on the distance from the average solution compares alternative projects and reports the optimal solution. The proposed approach allows project managers to engage in the evaluation process and to use fuzzy linguistic values in the assessment process. A case study from the construction sector is selected to verify the efficacy of the proposed approach over other popular approaches in the literature

    Hybrid-fuzzy techniques with flexibility and attitudinal parameters for supporting early product design and reliability management

    The main aim of the research work presented in this thesis is to define and develop novel Hybrid Fuzzy-based techniques for supporting aspects of product development engineering, specifically product reliability at the early phase of product design under the design for reliability philosophy and concept designs assessment problems when the required information is rough and incomplete. Thus, to achieve the above-stated aim, which has been formulated in the effort to filling the identified gaps in the literature which comprise of the need for a holistic, flexible and adjustable method to facilitate and support product design concept assessment and product reliability at the early product design phase. The need for the incorporation of the attitudinal character of the DMs into the product reliability and design concept assessment and finally, the need to account for the several interrelated complex attributes in the product reliability and design concept assessment process. A combination of research methods has been employed which includes an extensive literature review, multiple case study approach, and personal interview of experts, through which data were, collected that provided information for the real-life case study. With the new Hybrid Fuzzy-based techniques (i.e. the intuitionistic fuzzy TOPSIS model which is based on an exponential-related function (IF-TOPSISEF) and the Multi-attribute group decision-making (MAGDM) method which is based on a generalized triangular intuitionistic fuzzy geometric averaging (GTIFGA) operator), a more robust method for the product reliability and design concepts assessment respectively have been achieved as displayed in the comparative analysis in the thesis. The new methods have provided a more complete and a holistic view of the assessment process, by looking at the product reliability and design concept assessment from different scenario depending on the interest of the DMs. Using the above methods, the thesis has been able to evaluated some complex mechanical systems in literature and in real-life including Crawler Crane Machine and Forklift Truck for design change with the purpose of gaining appropriate reliability knowledge and information needed at the early product design phase, and that can subsequently aid and improve the product design concepts after all such useful information have been added into the new design. With the application of the new methods, and their proven feasibility and rationality as displayed in the assessment results of the complex mechanical systems in literature and that of the real-life case studies, this thesis, therefore, can conclude that the Hybrid Fuzzy-based techniques proposed, has provided a better and a novel alternative to existing product reliability and design concepts assessment methods

    Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) Integrations for Decision Making Purposes: A Review

    Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) is generally used as decision making purpose. However, AHP provides a single numerical number. As the method can only yield binary decisions of either “yes” or “no”, the method is not compatible when the decision has uncertainties. Consequently, previous researchers have fused AHP with fuzzy to process alternatives with uncertainty judgment. In this paper, fundamental knowledge of separate tool was reviewed. Fundamental of both fuzzy and AHP were also  summarized in this article. The next phase of this paper was to split the types of FAHP namely to determine the relative weight and the rank or score. Two methods were utilized under FAHP to determine relative weight ; triangular and trapezoidal FAHP. Next type of FAHP was to determine the score of each alternative often carried out after triangular or trapezoidal FAHP. The second types of FAHP were Fuzzy TOPSIS, and VIKOR. These FAHPs were explained and steps to carry out were presented in this paper. In conclusion, all types of FAHP are compared in terms of computational time, number of steps and level of difficulty

    Solving MCDM problems based on combination of PACMAN and LINMAP

    Multicriteria decision-making approaches are receiving more and more attention with the increase of expectations from decision makers in variety of fields. The growth in applying such approaches has led to identifying their strengths as well as their shortcomings. Passive and active compensability multicriteria analysis (PACMAN) is one of the frequently used approaches which has the capability to consider compensation in describing intercriteria relations in multicriteria decision-making problems. This methodology is well formed and rationally structured in the first two phases, in which the problem is formulated and the decisive indices are obtained. However, it has some shortcomings in the idea of concluding the process of solution in its last phase. In the current study, we review the methodology, discuss its possible shortcomings, and propose an approach based on the combination of PACMAN and linear programming technique for multidimensional analysis of preference (LINMAP). The proposed approach which is taken to evaluate the PACMAN and LINMAP methodologies can help researchers and decision makers who seek an accurate perspective to evaluate a multicriteria decision-making methodology.authorsversionpublishe
