New Research on the Gymnasium of Eretria

Das Gymnasion von Eretria gilt als eines der besten Beispiele für frühhellenistische Palästren. Dieser Beitrag präsentiert die Ergebnisse neuer Forschungen, die die Schweizerische Archäologische Schule in Griechenland 2015 und 2016 durchgeführt hat und die signifikante neue Erkenntnisse für die Chronologie, den Plan und die Funktion des Komplexes liefern. Der Bau wurde um 330–320 v. Chr. als Palästra mit zwei verschiedengroßen Höfen errichtet, die vermutlich für unterschiedliche Alters­gruppen konzipiert waren. Die Bauzeit korreliert mit der Einführung der Ephebeia in Eretria. Nach verschiedenen Umbauten, die vor allem der Verbesserung der Badeanlagen dienten, wurde die Palästra um 100 n. Chr. aufgelassen, als auch die Ephebeia an Bedeutung verlor

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP OF GYMNASIUM TEACHERS’

The article deals with the associations of transformational leadership of gymnasium teachers’ and their emotional intelligence. The operationalization of the concept of emotional intelligence in this study is viewed as the interaction of four determinants: Self-Emotional Appraisal (SEA); Others’ Emotional Appraisal (OEA); Regulation of Emotion (RE); Use of Emotion (UE). The aim of the article is to explore how profile gymnasium teachers’ transformational leadership is associated with their emotional intelligence dimensions. Wong and Law’s Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS) was used to measure the emotional intelligence of gymnasium teachers. Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) was used in the research of leadership expression. The collected data were analyzed using structural equation modelling (SEM). The findings confirm that the transformational leadership is statistically significantly associated with emotional intelligence of gymnasium teachers from Lithuania. SEM analysis revealed that the use of emotions is statistically significantly associated with gymnasium teachers’ transformational leadership.

The prominence of Danzig Academic Gymnasium as a cornerstone of scientific developments in Gdańsk

The Danzig Academic Gymnasium (1558–1817) was one of the first Protestant schools at the college level in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. It became one of the most famous educational institutions in Europe of the 16–18th centuries. For almost 260 years, it attracted one of the best professors and students of the era. We concentrate on the achievements in science, the role of the City Council Library in the academic life in and outside of the Gymnasium, and highlight the activities of the Danzig Naturalist Society. In this survey, we feature important representatives of the scientific disciplines present in the Gymnasium, both faculty and their students, as well as Gdańsk scientists in general. We outline the lasting impact of the Danzig Academic Gymnasium on the intellectual life in Gdańsk, the Pomerania region, and some intellectual circles in Europe

Dropouts am Gymnasium: Eine empirische Studie zum Phänomen des Schulabbruchs

Zusammenfassung: Obwohl die Dropoutforschung auch hierzulande an Bedeutung gewinnt, konzentriert sie sich fast ausschließlich auf die Gruppe der schulleistungsschwachen Risikoschüler. Über Schulabgänge am Gymnasium weiß sie jedoch fast nichts. Dieser Beitrag präsentiert die Ergebnisse einer explorativen Studie zu Schulabbrechern am Gymnasium. 102 vorzeitigen Abgängern und Abgängerinnen ("Dropouts") und 105 am Gymnasium Verbleibenden ("Stabile") wurde ein Fragebogen vorgelegt, um Informationen zu den Gründen ihres Schulabbruchs, zu ihren personalen und sozialen Merkmalen und zu Unterschieden zwischen Jungen und Mädchen zu erhalten. Die Hauptbefunde verweisen auf deutliche Unterschiede zwischen Stabilen und Dropouts. Letztere stammen aus bildungsferneren Elternhäusern, berichten große Motivations- und Beziehungsprobleme mit Lehrkräften, Entfremdungsgefühle gegenüber der Schule sowie eine beachtliche Schuldistanz. Ihre Schulleistungen sind jedoch nur unwesentlich schlechter als diejenigen der Stabilen. Damit verweisen diese Befunde auf die Notwendigkeit, das Phänomen des Schulabbruchs am Gymnasium nicht nur als individuelles, sondern auch als institutionelles Problem zu diskutiere
