    Get PDF
The tourism and hospitality industries have widely adopted information technology (IT) to reduce costs, enhance operational efficiency, and most importantly to improve service quality and customer experience. This article offers a comprehensive review of articles that were published in 57 tourism and hospitality research journals from 2005 to 2007. Grouping the findings into the categories of consumers, technologies, and suppliers, the article sheds light on the evolution of IT applications in the tourism and hospitality industries. The article demonstrates that IT is increasingly becoming critical for the competitive operations of the tourism and hospitality organizations as well as for managing the distribution and marketing of organizations on a global scale

Recommendation system for web article based on association rules and topic modelling

The World Wide Web is now the primary source for information discovery. A user visits websites that provide information and browse on the particular information in ac-cordance with their topic interest. Through the navigational process, visitors often had to jump over the menu to find the right content. Recommendation system can help the visitors to find the right content immediately. In this study, we propose a two-level recommendation system, based on association rule and topic similarity. We generate association rule by applying Apriori algorithm. The dataset for association rule mining is a session of topics that made by combining the result of sessionization and topic modeling. On the other hand, the topic similarity made by comparing the topic proportion of web article. This topic proportion inferred from the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). The results show that in our dataset there are not many interesting topic relations in one session. This result can be resolved, by utilizing the second level of recommendation by looking into the article that has the similar topic

188 p.This PhD focuses on the application of machine learning techniques for behaviourmodelling in different types of websites. Using data mining techniques two aspects whichare problematic and difficult to solve have been addressed: getting the system todynamically adapt to possible changes of user preferences, and to try to extract theinformation necessary to ensure the adaptation in a transparent manner for the users, without infringing on their privacy. The work in question combines information of differentnature such as usage information, content information and website structure and usesappropriate web mining techniques to extract as much knowledge as possible from thewebsites. The extracted knowledge is used for different purposes such as adaptingwebsites to the users through proposals of interesting links, so that the users can get therelevant information more easily and comfortably; for discovering interests or needs ofusers accessing the website and to inform the service providers about it; or detectingproblems during navigation.Systems have been successfully generated for two completely different fields: thefield of tourism, working with the website of bidasoa turismo (www.bidasoaturismo.com)and, the field of disabled people, working with discapnet website (www.discapnet.com)from ONCE/Tecnosite foundation

Impact of Social Media Usage on Organizational Performance in the Jordanian Dead Sea Cosmetic Sector

    Get PDF
Due to the current debate on the positives and negatives of social media, most of the organizations are in an unclear state regarding the adoption of social media. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to extend previous research on social media use comprising three variables: social media for marketing, social media for customer’s relations and services, and social media for information accessibility and its impact on organizational performance in terms of rapid adaptation, time to market, cost reduction, and innovation in Jordan. The paper analyzed data obtained from a sample of 169 managers working at 23 different organizations in Dead Sea cosmetic sector in Jordan using a quantitative approach. Structural equation modelling used to test the hypotheses. Results showed that there is a strong positive impact of implementing and using social media on organizational performance in terms of rapid adaptation, cost reduction, and innovation. Also, social media usage is different among the companies’ characteristics in terms of type, age, and size. This paper offers a clearer understanding of the importance of social media and its benefits. Also, this paper is one of the first studies conducted in Jordan and especially within the Dead Sea cosmetic sector by demonstrating the different areas of organizational performance that can be enhanced by using social media in different ways. Keywords: Social media, social media marketing, customer relations, organizational performance, rapid adaptation, cost reduction, time to market, innovation, Dead Sea cosmetic, Jordan. Semantic discovery and reuse of business process patterns

    Get PDF
Patterns currently play an important role in modern information systems (IS) development and their use has mainly been restricted to the design and implementation phases of the development lifecycle. Given the increasing significance of business modelling in IS development, patterns have the potential of providing a viable solution for promoting reusability of recurrent generalized models in the very early stages of development. As a statement of research-in-progress this paper focuses on business process patterns and proposes an initial methodological framework for the discovery and reuse of business process patterns within the IS development lifecycle. The framework borrows ideas from the domain engineering literature and proposes the use of semantics to drive both the discovery of patterns as well as their reuse
