Transmit and Receive Signal Processing for MIMO Terrestrial Broadcast Systems
[EN] Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technology in Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) networks has the potential to increase the spectral efficiency and improve network coverage to cope with the competition of limited spectrum use (e.g., assignment of digital dividend and spectrum demands of mobile broadband), the appearance of new high data rate services (e.g., ultra-high definition TV - UHDTV), and the ubiquity of the content (e.g., fixed, portable, and mobile). It is widely recognised that MIMO can provide multiple benefits such as additional receive power due to array gain, higher resilience against signal outages due to spatial diversity, and higher data rates due to the spatial multiplexing gain of the MIMO channel. These benefits can be achieved without additional transmit power nor additional bandwidth, but normally come at the expense of a higher system complexity at the transmitter and receiver ends. The final system performance gains due to the use of MIMO directly depend on physical characteristics of the propagation environment such as spatial correlation, antenna orientation, and/or power imbalances experienced at the transmit aerials. Additionally, due to complexity constraints and finite-precision arithmetic at the receivers, it is crucial for the overall system performance to carefully design specific signal processing algorithms.
This dissertation focuses on transmit and received signal processing for DTT systems using MIMO-BICM (Bit-Interleaved Coded Modulation) without feedback channel to the transmitter from the receiver terminals. At the transmitter side, this thesis presents investigations on MIMO precoding in DTT systems to overcome system degradations due to different channel conditions. At the receiver side, the focus is given on design and evaluation of practical MIMO-BICM receivers based on quantized information and its impact in both the in-chip memory size and system performance. These investigations are carried within the standardization process of DVB-NGH (Digital Video Broadcasting - Next Generation Handheld) the handheld evolution of DVB-T2 (Terrestrial - Second Generation), and ATSC 3.0 (Advanced Television Systems Committee - Third Generation), which incorporate MIMO-BICM as key technology to overcome the Shannon limit of single antenna communications.
Outage probability formulas for cellular networks (contributions for MIMO, CoMP and time reversal features)
Ensuite, nous considérons un système multicellulaire multi-utilisateurs à précodage de forçage à zéro (ZFBF).The implementation of cellular systems have aroused issues related to the design of cellular networks termed to as network dimensioning. It includes the coverage estimation and thetraffic analysis. Simple models and methods are required to reduce the time consumption of these two analysis. At the same time, the growing demand for higher data rates constrained by the scarcity of frequency spectrum, and the requirements in terms of power consumption reduction make the telecommunication community think about new transmission techniques moving from the classical single antenna systems to multiple antenna systems and even the newly envisaged cooperative systems. In this thesis, we provide analytical models to assess the performance of these different cellular network evolutions in terms of outage probabilities. In a first study, we consider multicellular single input single output (SISO) systems. First, we propose two accurate methods to study the joint impact of path-loss, shadowing and fast fading. This system has so far been studied either considering the only impact of path-loss and Rayleigh fading, or considering the same channel model as in our case but providing very complex outage probability expressions. Then, we provide an outage probability expression in a wideband communication context implementing the Time Reversal (TR) transmission technique considering the impact of fast fading. In a second study, we focus on multiple antenna systems. We study the performance of a Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) system implementing a transmit and a receivediversity schemes namely the Alamouti code and the Maximum Ratio Combining (MRC).PARIS-Télécom ParisTech (751132302) / SudocSudocFranceF

The book is written by specialists working in universities and research centers all over the world to cover the fundamental principles and main advanced topics on high data rates wireless communications systems over MIMO channels. Moreover, the book has the advantage of providing a collection of applications that are completely independent and self-contained; thus, the interested reader can choose any chapter and skip to another without losing continuity
Performance Evaluation of Low Complexity Massive MIMO Techniques for SC-FDE Schemes
Massive-MIMO technology has emerged as a means to achieve 5G's ambitious goals;
mainly to obtain higher capacities and excellent performances without requiring the use of more
spectrum. In this thesis, focused on the uplink direction, we make a study of performance of low
complexity equalization techniques as well as we also approach the impact of the non-linear elements
located on the receivers of a system of this type. For that purpose, we consider a multi-user
uplink scenario through the Single Carrier with Frequency Domain Equalization (SC-FDE)
scheme. This seems to be the most appropriate due to the low energy consumption that it implies,
as well as being less favorable to the detrimental effects of high envelope fluctuations, that is, by
have a low Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) comparing to other similar modulations, such
as the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). Due to the greater number of antennas
and consequent implementation complexity, the equalization processes for Massive-
MIMO schemes are aspects that should be simplified, that is, they should avoid the inversion of
matrices, contrary to common 4G, with the Zero Forcing (ZF) and Minimum Mean Square Error
(MMSE) techniques. To this end, we use low-complexity techniques, such as the Equal Gain
Combining (EGC) and the Maximum Ratio Combining (MRC). Since these algorithms are not
sufficiently capable of removing the entire Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) and Inter-User Interference
(IUI), we combine them with iterative techniques, namely with the Iterative Block with
Decision Feedback Equalizer (IB-DFE) to completely remove the residual ISI and IUI. We also
take into account the hardware used in the receivers, since the effects of non-linear distortion can
impact negatively the performance of the system. It is expected a strong performance degradation
associated to the high quantization noise levels when implementing low-resolution Analog to
Digital Converters (ADCs). However, despite these elements with these configurations become
harmful to the performance of the majority of the systems, they are considered a desirable solution
for Massive-MIMO scenarios, because they make their implementation cheaper and more energy
efficient. In this way, we made a study of the impact in the performance by the low-resolution
ADCs. In this thesis we suggest that it is possible to bypass these negative effects by implementing
a number of receiving antennas far superior to the number of transmitting antennas
On the energy efficiency of spatial modulation concepts
Spatial Modulation (SM) is a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) transmission technique
which realizes low complexity implementations in wireless communication systems. Due the
transmission principle of SM, only one Radio Frequency (RF) chain is required in the transmitter.
Therefore, the complexity of the transmitter is lower compared to the complexity of
traditional MIMO schemes, such as Spatial MultipleXing (SMX). In addition, because of the
single RF chain configuration of SM, only one Power Amplifier (PA) is required in the transmitter.
Hence, SM has the potential to exhibit significant Energy Efficiency (EE) benefits. At
the receiver side, due to the SM transmission mechanism, detection is conducted using a low
complexity (single stream) Maximum Likelihood (ML) detector. However, despite the use of a
single stream detector, SM achieves a multiplexing gain.
A point-to-point closed-loop variant of SM is receive space modulation. In receive space modulation,
the concept of SMis extended at the receiver side, using linear precoding with Channel
State Information at the Transmitter (CSIT). Even though receive space modulation does not
preserve the single RF chain configuration of SM, due to the deployed linear precoding, it
can be efficiently incorporated in a Space Division Multiple Access (SDMA) or in a Virtual
Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (VMIMO) architecture.
Inspired by the potentials of SM, the objectives of this thesis are the evaluation of the EE of
SM and its extension in different forms of MIMO communication. In particular, a realistic
power model for the power consumption of a Base Station (BS) is deployed in order to assess
the EE of SM in terms of Mbps/J. By taking into account the whole power supply of a BS and
considering a Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) multiple access scheme, it is shown that
SM is significantly more energy efficient compared to the traditional MIMO techniques. In
the considered system setup, it is shown that SM is up to 67% more energy efficient compared
to the benchmark systems. In addition, the concept of space modulation is researched at the
receiver side. Specifically, based on the union bound technique, a framework for the evaluation
of the Average Bit Error Probability (ABEP), diversity order, and coding gain of receive space
modulation is developed. Because receive space modulation deploys linear precoding with
CSIT, two new precoding methods which utilize imperfect CSIT are proposed. Furthermore, in
this thesis, receive space modulation is incorporated in the broadcast channel. The derivation of
the theoretical ABEP, diversity order, and coding gain of the new broadcast scheme is provided.
It is concluded that receive space modulation is able to outperform the corresponding traditional
MIMO scheme. Finally, SM, receive space modulation, and relaying are combined in order
to form a novel virtual MIMO architecture. It is shown that the new architecture practically
eliminates or reduces the problem of the inefficient relaying of the uncoordinated virtual MIMO
space modulation architectures. This is undertaken by using precoding in a novel fashion. The
evaluation of the new architecture is conducted using simulation and theoretical results
Adaptive Communications for Next Generation Broadband Wireless Access Systems
In Broadband Wireless Access systems the efficient use of the resources is crucial from many points of views. From the operator point of view, the bandwidth is a scarce, valuable, and expensive resource which must be exploited in an efficient manner while the Quality of Service (QoS) provided to the users is guaranteed. On the other hand, a tight delay and link quality constraints are imposed on each data flow hence the user experiences the same quality as in fixed networks. During the last few years many techniques have been developed in order to increase the spectral efficiency and the throughput. Among them, the use of multiple antennas at the transmitter and the receiver (exploiting spatial multiplexing) with the joint optimization of the medium access control layer and the physical layer parameters. In this Ph.D. thesis, different adaptive techniques for B3G multicarrier wireless systems are developed and proposed focusing on the SS-MC-MA and the OFDM(A) (IEEE 802.16a/e/m standards) communication schemes. The research lines emphasize into the adaptation of the transmission having (Partial) knowledge of the Channel State Information for both; single antenna and multiple antenna links. For single antenna links, the implementation of a joint resource allocation and scheduling strategy by including adaptive modulation and coding is investigated. A low complexity resource allocation and scheduling algorithm is proposed with the objective to cope with real- and/or non-real- time requirements and constraints. A special attention is also devoted in reducing the required signalling. However, for multiple antenna links, the performance of a proposed adaptive transmit antenna selection scheme jointly with space-time block coding selection is investigated and compared with conventional structures. In this research line, mainly two optimizations criteria are proposed for spatial link adaptation, one based on the minimum error rate for fixed throughput, and the second focused on the maximisation of the rate for fixed error rate. Finally, some indications are given on how to include the spatial adaptation into the investigated and proposed resource allocation and scheduling process developed for single antenna transmission
Novel Efficient Precoding Techniques for Multiuser MIMO Systems
In Multiuser MIMO (MU-MIMO) systems, precoding is essential to eliminate or minimize the multiuser interference (MUI).
However, the design of a suitable precoding algorithm with good overall
performance and low computational complexity at the same time is quite challenging, especially with the increase of system dimensions.
In this thesis, we explore the art of novel low-complexity high-performance precoding algorithms with both linear and non-linear processing strategies.
Block diagonalization (BD)-type based precoding techniques are well-known linear precoding strategies
for MU-MIMO systems.
By employing BD-type precoding algorithms at the transmit side, the MU-MIMO broadcast channel is decomposed
into multiple independent parallel SU-MIMO channels and achieves the
maximum diversity order at high data rates. The main computational complexity of BD-type precoding algorithms comes from
two singular value decomposition (SVD) operations, which depend on the number of users and the dimensions of each user's channel matrix.
In this thesis, two categories of low-complexity precoding algorithms are proposed to
reduce the computational complexity and improve the performance of BD-type precoding algorithms.
One is based on multiple LQ decompositions and lattice reductions. The other one is based on a channel inversion technique, QR decompositions, and lattice reductions to decouple the MU-MIMO channel into equivalent SU-MIMO channels.
Both of the two proposed precoding algorithms can achieve a comparable sum-rate performance as BD-type precoding algorithms, substantial bit error
rate (BER) performance gains, and a simplified receiver structure, while requiring a much lower complexity.
Tomlinson-Harashima precoding (THP) is a prominent nonlinear processing technique employed at the transmit side and is a dual to the successive interference cancelation (SIC) detection at the receive side. Like SIC detection, the performance of THP strongly depends on the ordering of the precoded symbols.
The optimal ordering algorithm, however, is impractical for MU-MIMO systems with multiple receive antennas. We propose a multi-branch THP (MB-THP) scheme and algorithms that employ multiple transmit processing and ordering strategies along with a selection scheme to mitigate interference in MU-MIMO systems.
Two types of multi-branch THP (MB-THP) structures are proposed. The first one employs a decentralized strategy with diagonal weighted filters at the receivers of the users and the second uses a diagonal weighted filter at the transmitter.
The MB-MMSE-THP algorithms are also derived based on an extended system model with the aid of an LQ decomposition, which is much simpler compared to the conventional MMSE-THP algorithms. Simulation results show that a better BER performance can be achieved by the proposed MB-MMSE-THP precoder with a small computational complexity increase
