    Get PDF
A crucial step in designing intelligent transport systems (ITS) is vehicle detection. The challenges of vehicle detection in urban roads arise because of camera position, background variations, occlusion, multiple foreground objects as well as vehicle pose. The current study provides a synopsis of state-of-the-art vehicle detection techniques, which are categorized according to motion and appearance-based techniques starting with frame differencing and background subtraction until feature extraction, a more complicated model in comparison. The advantages and disadvantages among the techniques are also highlighted with a conclusion as to the most accurate one for vehicle detection

abstract: Despite the fact that machine learning supports the development of computer vision applications by shortening the development cycle, finding a general learning algorithm that solves a wide range of applications is still bounded by the ”no free lunch theorem”. The search for the right algorithm to solve a specific problem is driven by the problem itself, the data availability and many other requirements. Automated visual inspection (AVI) systems represent a major part of these challenging computer vision applications. They are gaining growing interest in the manufacturing industry to detect defective products and keep these from reaching customers. The process of defect detection and classification in semiconductor units is challenging due to different acceptable variations that the manufacturing process introduces. Other variations are also typically introduced when using optical inspection systems due to changes in lighting conditions and misalignment of the imaged units, which makes the defect detection process more challenging. In this thesis, a BagStack classification framework is proposed, which makes use of stacking and bagging concepts to handle both variance and bias errors. The classifier is designed to handle the data imbalance and overfitting problems by adaptively transforming the multi-class classification problem into multiple binary classification problems, applying a bagging approach to train a set of base learners for each specific problem, adaptively specifying the number of base learners assigned to each problem, adaptively specifying the number of samples to use from each class, applying a novel data-imbalance aware cross-validation technique to generate the meta-data while taking into account the data imbalance problem at the meta-data level and, finally, using a multi-response random forest regression classifier as a meta-classifier. The BagStack classifier makes use of multiple features to solve the defect classification problem. In order to detect defects, a locally adaptive statistical background modeling is proposed. The proposed BagStack classifier outperforms state-of-the-art image classification techniques on our dataset in terms of overall classification accuracy and average per-class classification accuracy. The proposed detection method achieves high performance on the considered dataset in terms of recall and precision.Dissertation/ThesisDoctoral Dissertation Computer Engineering 201

With the proliferation of digital content, efficient image matching in natural image databases has become paramount. Traditional image matching techniques, while effective to a certain extent, face challenges in dealing with the high variability inherent in natural images. This research delves into the application of deep learning models, particularly Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), Siamese Networks, and Triplet Networks, to address these challenges. We introduce various techniques to enhance efficiency, such as data augmentation, transfer learning, dimensionality reduction, efficient sampling, and the amalgamation of traditional computer vision strategies with deep learning. Our experimental results, garnered from specific dataset, demonstrate significant improvements in image matching efficiency, as quantified by metrics like precision, recall, F1-Score, and matching time. The findings underscore the potential of deep learning as a transformative tool for natural image database matching, setting the stage for further research and optimization in this domain

An Approach Of Features Extraction And Heatmaps Generation Based Upon Cnns And 3D Object Models

The rapid advancements in artificial intelligence have enabled recent progress of self-driving vehicles. However, the dependence on 3D object models and their annotations collected and owned by individual companies has become a major problem for the development of new algorithms. This thesis proposes an approach of directly using graphics models created from open-source datasets as the virtual representation of real-world objects. This approach uses Machine Learning techniques to extract 3D feature points and to create annotations from graphics models for the recognition of dynamic objects, such as cars, and for the verification of stationary and variable objects, such as buildings and trees. Moreover, it generates heat maps for the elimination of stationary/variable objects in real-time images before working on the recognition of dynamic objects. The proposed approach helps to bridge the gap between the virtual and physical worlds and to facilitate the development of new algorithms for self-driving vehicles

A robust and fast automatic moving object detection and tracking system is essential to characterize target object and extract spatial and temporal information for different functionalities including video surveillance systems, urban traffic monitoring and navigation, robotic. In this dissertation, I present a collaborative Spatial Pyramid Context-aware moving object detection and Tracking system. The proposed visual tracker is composed of one master tracker that usually relies on visual object features and two auxiliary trackers based on object temporal motion information that will be called dynamically to assist master tracker. SPCT utilizes image spatial context at different level to make the video tracking system resistant to occlusion, background noise and improve target localization accuracy and robustness. We chose a pre-selected seven-channel complementary features including RGB color, intensity and spatial pyramid of HoG to encode object color, shape and spatial layout information. We exploit integral histogram as building block to meet the demands of real-time performance. A novel fast algorithm is presented to accurately evaluate spatially weighted local histograms in constant time complexity using an extension of the integral histogram method. Different techniques are explored to efficiently compute integral histogram on GPU architecture and applied for fast spatio-temporal median computations and 3D face reconstruction texturing. We proposed a multi-component framework based on semantic fusion of motion information with projected building footprint map to significantly reduce the false alarm rate in urban scenes with many tall structures. The experiments on extensive VOTC2016 benchmark dataset and aerial video confirm that combining complementary tracking cues in an intelligent fusion framework enables persistent tracking for Full Motion Video and Wide Aerial Motion Imagery.Comment: PhD Dissertation (162 pages

Future systems where computers take over the art of driving. The problem is prior to being attention in an autonomous car for obtaining the high safety. Autonomous car need early warning system to avoid accidents in front of the car, especially the system can be used in the Highway location. In this paper, we propose a vision-based vehicle detection system for Autonomous car. Our detection algorithm consists of three main components: HOG feature extraction, KNN classifier, and vehicle detection. Feature extraction has been used to recognize an object such as cars. In this case, we use HOG feature extraction to detect as a car or non-car. We use the KNN algorithm to classify. KNN Classification in previous studies had quite good results. Car detected by matching about trining data with testing data. Trining data created by extract HOG feature from image 304 x 240 pixels. The system will produce a classification between car or non-car
