    Software-Defined Networks Supporting Time-Sensitive In-Vehicular Communication

    Future in-vehicular networks will be based on Ethernet. The IEEE Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) is a promising candidate to satisfy real-time requirements in future car communication. Software-Defined Networking (SDN) extends the Ethernet control plane with a programming option that can add much value to the resilience, security, and adaptivity of the automotive environment. In this work, we derive a first concept for combining Software-Defined Networking with Time-Sensitive Networking along with an initial evaluation. Our measurements are performed via a simulation that investigates whether an SDN architecture is suitable for time-critical applications in the car. Our findings indicate that the control overhead of SDN can be added without a delay penalty for the TSN traffic when protocols are mapped properly.Comment: To be published at IEEE VTC2019-Sprin

    A novel Big Data analytics and intelligent technique to predict driver's intent

    Modern age offers a great potential for automatically predicting the driver's intent through the increasing miniaturization of computing technologies, rapid advancements in communication technologies and continuous connectivity of heterogeneous smart objects. Inside the cabin and engine of modern cars, dedicated computer systems need to possess the ability to exploit the wealth of information generated by heterogeneous data sources with different contextual and conceptual representations. Processing and utilizing this diverse and voluminous data, involves many challenges concerning the design of the computational technique used to perform this task. In this paper, we investigate the various data sources available in the car and the surrounding environment, which can be utilized as inputs in order to predict driver's intent and behavior. As part of investigating these potential data sources, we conducted experiments on e-calendars for a large number of employees, and have reviewed a number of available geo referencing systems. Through the results of a statistical analysis and by computing location recognition accuracy results, we explored in detail the potential utilization of calendar location data to detect the driver's intentions. In order to exploit the numerous diverse data inputs available in modern vehicles, we investigate the suitability of different Computational Intelligence (CI) techniques, and propose a novel fuzzy computational modelling methodology. Finally, we outline the impact of applying advanced CI and Big Data analytics techniques in modern vehicles on the driver and society in general, and discuss ethical and legal issues arising from the deployment of intelligent self-learning cars

    Quality Indicators for Social Business Intelligence

    Comunicació presentada a 2019 Sixth International Conference on Social Networks Analysis, Management and Security (SNAMS) (Granada, Spain, 22-25 Oct. 2019)The main purpose of Social Business Intelligence is to help companies in making decisions by performing multidimensional analysis of the relevant information disseminated on social networks. Although data quality is a general issue in SBI, few approaches have aimed at assessing it for any data collection, being this a context dependent task. In this paper, we define a quality indicator as a metric that serves to assess the overall quality of a collection, and that integrates the measures obtained by several quality criteria applied to filter the posts relevant for a SBI project. The selection of the best quality criteria to include in each quality indicator is a complex task that requires a deep understanding of both the context and objectives of analysis. In this paper, we propose a new methodology to design quality indicators for SBI projects whose quality criteria consider contents coherence and data provenance. Thus, for the context defined by an objective of analysis, this methodology helps users to find the quality criteria that best suit both the users and the available data, and then integrate them into a valid quality indicator

    Real-time big data processing for anomaly detection : a survey

    The advent of connected devices and omnipresence of Internet have paved way for intruders to attack networks, which leads to cyber-attack, financial loss, information theft in healthcare, and cyber war. Hence, network security analytics has become an important area of concern and has gained intensive attention among researchers, off late, specifically in the domain of anomaly detection in network, which is considered crucial for network security. However, preliminary investigations have revealed that the existing approaches to detect anomalies in network are not effective enough, particularly to detect them in real time. The reason for the inefficacy of current approaches is mainly due the amassment of massive volumes of data though the connected devices. Therefore, it is crucial to propose a framework that effectively handles real time big data processing and detect anomalies in networks. In this regard, this paper attempts to address the issue of detecting anomalies in real time. Respectively, this paper has surveyed the state-of-the-art real-time big data processing technologies related to anomaly detection and the vital characteristics of associated machine learning algorithms. This paper begins with the explanation of essential contexts and taxonomy of real-time big data processing, anomalous detection, and machine learning algorithms, followed by the review of big data processing technologies. Finally, the identified research challenges of real-time big data processing in anomaly detection are discussed. © 2018 Elsevier Lt

    Traffic Classification for Network Slicing in Mobile Networks

    Network slicing is a promising technique used in the smart delivery of traffic and can satisfy the requirements of specific applications or systems based on the features of the 5G network. To this end, an appropriate slice needs to be selected for each data flow to efficiently transmit data for different applications and heterogeneous requirements. To apply the slicing paradigm at the radio segment of a cellular network, this paper presents two approaches for dynamically classifying the traffic types of individual flows and transmitting them through a specific slice with an associated 5G quality-of-service identifier (5QI). Finally, using a 5G standalone (SA) experimental network solution, we apply the radio resource sharing configuration to prioritize traffic that is dispatched through the most suitable slice. The research of new solutions in networking is oriented to improve the user experience. Any application or service can be im- proved and the deployment of new solutions is mandatory to get the user satisfaction. However, different solutions exist; thus, it is necessary to select the most suitable ones. Nevertheless, this selection is difficult to make since the QoE is subjective and the comparison among different technologies is not trivial. The aim of this paper is to give an overview on how to perform fair QoE measurements to facilitate the study and re- search of new networking solutions and paradigms.
