A methodology for the design and evaluation of user interfaces for interactive information systems
The definition of proposed research addressing the development and validation of a methodology for the design and evaluation of user interfaces for interactive information systems is given. The major objectives of this research are: the development of a comprehensive, objective, and generalizable methodology for the design and evaluation of user interfaces for information systems; the development of equations and/or analytical models to characterize user behavior and the performance of a designed interface; the design of a prototype system for the development and administration of user interfaces; and the design and use of controlled experiments to support the research and test/validate the proposed methodology. The proposed design methodology views the user interface as a virtual machine composed of three layers: an interactive layer, a dialogue manager layer, and an application interface layer. A command language model of user system interactions is presented because of its inherent simplicity and structured approach based on interaction events. All interaction events have a common structure based on common generic elements necessary for a successful dialogue. It is shown that, using this model, various types of interfaces could be designed and implemented to accommodate various categories of users. The implementation methodology is discussed in terms of how to store and organize the information
Model Integrasi Sistem Dengan Pendekatan Metode Service Oriented Architecture Dan Model View Controller Pada Pusat Penelitian Perkembangan Iptek Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia
The administration management as an activity and institute's main task which is also called as Back Office System, supported by several information systems. The data need and information in one information system cannot be fulfilled only by one information source, but it needs a composition from a two or more sources in one institute/organization. To solve this problem, we need an architecture model which can solve integration system between different information systems. This Integrated Information System Design Research Method uses Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) approach as the architecture base, Model View Controller (MVC) method as the model in the programming (coding). The applied development method SOA utilizes Service Oriented Modelling and Architecture (SOMA) development system, it is a system design method which classifies business process in to a service group. The SOA application is because of its loosely coupled, highly interoperable, reusable and interoperability characteristics cause SOA reliable in information development and integration. While the integrated information system which is built using MVC method, easier to be maintained and developed. This research produce employment service, asset service, supplies service, financial service and also system prototype as a dashboard for employment service with SOA approach and MVC method which uses Representational State Transfer (REST) technolog
Encapsulating and representing the knowledge on the evaluation of an engineering system
This paper proposes a cross-disciplinary methodology for a fundamental question in product development: How can the innovation patterns during the evolution of an engineering system (ES) be encapsulated, so that it can later be mined through data mining analysis methods? Reverse engineering answers the question of which components a developed engineering system consists of, and how the components interact to make the working product. TRIZ answers the
question of which problem-solving principles can be, or have been employed in developing that system, in comparison to its earlier versions, or with respect to similar systems. While these two methodologies have been very popular, to the best of our knowledge, there does not yet exist a methodology that reverseengineers and encapsulates and represents the information regarding the complete product development process in abstract terms. This paper suggests such a methodology, that consists of mathematical formalism, graph visualization, and database representation. The proposed approach is
demonstrated by analyzing the design and development process for a prototype wrist-rehabilitation robot
Application of the Prototype Model in Cooperative Profile Web Application Design
The development of information technology has triggered everyone in the business world, including cooperatives, to change the service system that was initially conventional to switch to digital. This is because the traditional business approach has several shortcomings in disseminating information on cooperative business profiles to external parties, such as limited access to information, slow dissemination of information, and being time-consuming and costly. For this reason, developing a business profile web application is needed to provide efficient access to information without limitations of space and time. However, there is a problem with how to design an application that fits the needs and meets user expectations. The prototype model can be used as a benchmark for an application, whether it is feasible to implement or not, following the results of the evaluation of user satisfaction. So, in this study, it is proposed to apply a prototype model to design applications that suit the needs and expectations of users. The application's design has been assessed using a questionnaire distributed to 30 respondents. The average result of the feasibility of the prototype design made is 93.05%, with a very feasible category
The crustal dynamics intelligent user interface anthology
The National Space Science Data Center (NSSDC) has initiated an Intelligent Data Management (IDM) research effort which has, as one of its components, the development of an Intelligent User Interface (IUI). The intent of the IUI is to develop a friendly and intelligent user interface service based on expert systems and natural language processing technologies. The purpose of such a service is to support the large number of potential scientific and engineering users that have need of space and land-related research and technical data, but have little or no experience in query languages or understanding of the information content or architecture of the databases of interest. This document presents the design concepts, development approach and evaluation of the performance of a prototype IUI system for the Crustal Dynamics Project Database, which was developed using a microcomputer-based expert system tool (M. 1), the natural language query processor THEMIS, and the graphics software system GSS. The IUI design is based on a multiple view representation of a database from both the user and database perspective, with intelligent processes to translate between the views
Module-based quality system functionality evaluation in production logistics
Purpose: This paper addresses a comprehensive modeling and functionality evaluation of a
module-based quality system in production logistics at the highest domain abstract level of
business processes.
Design/methodology/approach: All domain quality business processes and quality data
transactions are modeled using BPMN and UML tools and standards at the business process and
data modeling. A modular web-based prototype is developed to evaluate the models addressing
the quality information system functionality requirements and modularity in production logistics
through data scenarios and data queries.
Findings: Using the object-oriented technique in design at the highest domain level, the
proposed models are subject further development in the lower levels for the implementing case.
The models are specifically able to manipulate all quality operations including remedy and control
in a lot-based make-to-order production logistics system as an individual module.
Practical implications: Due to the specification of system as domain design structure, all
proposed BPMs, data models, and the actual database prototype are seen referential if not a
solution as a practical “to-be” quality business process re-engineering template. Originality/value: this paper sets out to provide an explanatory approach using different
practical technique at modeling steps as well as the prototype implementation.Peer Reviewe
The architecture and prototype implementation of the Model Environment system
International audienceAn approach that simplifies software development of the model based decision support systems for environmental management has been introduced. The approach is based on definition and management of metadata and data related to computational model without losing data semantics and proposed methods of integration of the new modules into the information system and their management. An architecture of the integrated modelling system is presented. The proposed architecture has been implemented as a prototype of integrated modelling system using. NET/Gtk{#} and is currently being used to re-design European Decision Support System for Nuclear Emergency Management RODOS (http://www.rodos.fzk.de) using Java/Swing
