JPEG steganography with particle swarm optimization accelerated by AVX

    Get PDF
Digital steganography aims at hiding secret messages in digital data transmitted over insecure channels. The JPEG format is prevalent in digital communication, and images are often used as cover objects in digital steganography. Optimization methods can improve the properties of images with embedded secret but introduce additional computational complexity to their processing. AVX instructions available in modern CPUs are, in this work, used to accelerate data parallel operations that are part of image steganography with advanced optimizations.Web of Science328art. no. e544

    Steganographically Encoded Data

Steganography is the art of hiding information in ways that prevent its detection. Though steganography is an ancient craft, the onset of computer technology has given it new life. Computer-based steganographic techniques introduce changes to digital covers to embed information foreign to the native covers. Such information may be communicated in the form of text, binary files, or provide additional information about the cover and its owner such as digital watermarks or fingerprints. This paper explains steganography, provides a brief history and describes how steganography is applied in hiding information in images.Steganography, information hiding, digital image, digital watermarking

Perfectly secure steganography: hiding information in the quantum noise of a photograph

We show that the quantum nature of light can be used to hide a secret message within a photograph. Using this physical principle we achieve information-theoretic secure steganography, which had remained elusive until now. The protocol is such that the digital picture in which the secret message is embedded is perfectly undistinguishable from an ordinary photograph. This implies that, on a fundamental level, it is impossible to discriminate a private communication from an exchange of photographs.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures + appendix : 5 pages, 6 figure

A Spatial Domain Image Steganography Technique Based on Plane Bit Substitution Method

Steganography is the art and science of hiding information by embedding data into cover media. In this paper we propose a new method of information hiding in digital image in spatial domain. In this method we use Plane Bit Substitution Method (PBSM) technique in which message bits are embedded into the pixel value(s) of an image. We first, proposed a Steganography transformation machine (STM) for solving Binary operation for manipulation of original image with help to least significant bit (LSB) operator based matching. Second, we use pixel encryption and decryption techniques under theoretical and experimental evolution. Our experimental, techniques are sufficient to discriminate analysis of stego and cover image as each pixel based PBSM, and operand with LSB

Securing Data Using JPEG Image Over Mobile Phone

In recent past years, Internet and Mobile is widely used for communication. Multimedia messaging (MMS) and Short Service Messaging (SMS) are the popular services provided by the telecommunication companies. In MMS we can easily send picture with text message. In SMS we can send text only. These techniques make the communication so fast. As well as the communication became easy attention toward information security increased. Data Security is the main concern for research. Mostly used techniques for secure communication are Cryptography and Steganography. There are so many techniques for steganography and cryptography. Mostly used techniques are image steganography and there are so many algorithms for this. For the cryptography mainly AES techniques is being used. In this paper we are presenting a technique using cryptography and steganography for securing information over mobile in MMS. It is very common practice to hide data in LSB of pixel. Spatial and frequency domains are generally used for image processing. Spatial domain have so many computations comparatively frequency domain. There different transform techniques are used for transformation e.g. DCT, FFT and wavelets. Here we are using Discrete Cosine transform (DCT) for image steganography and tiny encryption algorithm for cryptography. Tiny encryption algorithm (TEA) is block cipher algorithm. It is simple and fast but best for mobile application

    Digital Image Steganography

Steganography is defined as the science of hiding or embedding data in a transmission medium. Its ultimate objectives, which are undetectability, robustness (i.e., against image processing and other attacks) and capacity of the hidden data (i.e., how much data we can hide in the carrier file), are the main factors that distinguish it from other sisters-in science. techniques, namely watermarking and Cryptography. This paper provides an overview of well known Steganography methods. It identifies current research problems in this area and discusses how our current research approach could solve some of these problems. We propose using human skin tone detection in colour images to form an adaptive context for an edge operator which will provide an excellent secure location for data hiding

CANVASS - A Steganalysis Forensic Tool for JPEG Images

Steganography is a way to communicate a message such that no one except the sender and recipient suspects the existence of the message. This type of covert communication lends itself to a variety of different purposes such as spy-to-spy communication, exchange of pornographic material hidden in innocuous image files, and other illicit acts. Computer forensic personnel have an interest in testing for possible steganographic files, but often do not have access to the technical and financial resources required to perform steganalysis in an effective manner. This paper describes the results of a funded effort by a grant from the National Institutes of Justice to develop a user friendly and practical software program that has been designed to meet the steganalysis needs of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation in Ankeny, Iowa. The software performs steganalysis on JPEG image files in an efficient and effective way. JPEG images are popular and used by a great many people, and thus are naturally exploited for steganography. The commercial software that is available for detection of hidden messages is often expensive and does not fit the need of smaller police forensic labs. Our software checks for the presence of hidden payloads for five different JPEG-embedding steganography algorithms with the potential of identifying stego images generated by other (possibly unknown) embedding algorithm. In this paper, a new modification of spread spectrum image steganography (SSIS) is presented. The proposed modification of SSIS hides and recovers a message of substantial length within digital image while maintaining the original image size and dynamic range. An embedded message can be in the form of text, image, or any other digital signal. Our method is based on CDMA SSIS technique. To increase the information capacity of the stego channel and decrease a distortion of a cover image, a new modification of CDMA using a codebook (in the following referred to as Codebook CDMA (CCDMA)) is suggested

Multi Layer Security (MLS) is the art of hiding the fact that communication is taking place, by hiding information in other information. Many different carrier file formats can be used, but digital images are the most popular because of their frequency on the internet. For hiding secret information in images, there exists a large variety of techniques some are more complex than others and all of them have respective strong and weak points. Different applications may require absolute invisibility of the secret information, while others require a large secret message to be hidden. This project report intends to give an overview of image encryption, its uses and techniques. It also attempts to identify the requirements of a good algorithm and briefly reflects on which techniques are more suitable for applications
