Military clothing and medals from Mr. Hollenbeck’s career in the Army. E. W. Hollenbeck was born April 8, 1934 in Goodland, Kansas. After growing up “Bill” Hollenbeck attended Pittsburg State University where he graduated giving him a bachelor of science in education in 1956. After his bachelor’s degree Hollenbeck enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served 25 years. In these years Hollenbeck garnered a reputation for upstanding character and moved up in rank until his promotion of colonel in 1978. During his time in the military Hollenbeck also graduated with a master of science degree in education from Wichita State University. Finishing his education Hollenbeck also acquired a certificate of advanced graduate study in counseling and guidance from Boston University. After his education Hollenbeck came to Pittsburg once again but as a faculty member of Pittsburg State University. From his time employed here he was the chairman of the Military Science Department and assistant to the president some years later. He also became the liaison between the University and the Kansas legislature and finally became director of the PSU Business and Technology institute in 1996. Bill Hollenbeck passed in Tulsa, Oklahoma on January 2nd, 1997.https://digitalcommons.pittstate.edu/fa/1428/thumbnail.jp

June 1956 in spring of 1981. Poznań 1956 (1981) by Tadeusz Litowczenko and Mirosław Kwieciński

The article presents the making of the first documentary film depicting the traumatic events of the anticommunist uprising in Poznań in June 1956 as well as the difficult fate of the documentary after it had been completed. Its authors, Tadeusz Litowczenko and Mirosław Kwieciński, composed their Poznań 1956  (1981) of two interwoven narrative lines. Archive photographs with off screen commentary make the first narrative line while cinema-verite-like interviews with the participants of historical events make the other. The film analysis is aimed to underline the formal means employed in the film to present the opposing sites of the conflict. It also focuses on the historical context from the times when film was being made in the so called ‘festival of Solidarity movement’ in the early 1980s.The article presents the making of the first documentary film depicting the traumatic events of the anticommunist uprising in Poznań in June 1956 as well as the difficult fate of the documentary after it had been completed. Expansión urbana y turismo en la Comarca del Campo de Cartagena-Mar Menor (Murcia). Impacto en el sellado del suelo

    Get PDF

Source energy spectra from demodulation of solar particle data by interplanetary and coronal transport

The data on source energy spectra of solar cosmic rays (SCR), i.e. the data on the spectrum form and on the absolute SCR are of interest for three reasons: (1) the SCR contain the energy comparable to the total energy of electromagnetic flare radiation (less than or equal to 10 to the 32nd power ergs); (2) the source spectrum form indicates a possible acceleration mechanism (or mechanism); and (3) the accelerated particles are efficiently involved in nuclear electromagnetic and plasma processes in the solar atmosphere. Therefore, the data on SCR source spectra are necessary for a theoretical description of the processes mentioned and for the formulation of the consistent flare model. Below it is attempted to sound solar particle sources by means of SCR energy spectrum obtained near the Sun, at the level of the roots of the interplanetary field lines in the upper solar corona. Data from approx. 60 solar proton events (SPE) between 1956-1981. These data were obtained mainly by the interplanetary demodulation of observed fluxes near the Earth. Further, a model of coronal azimuthal transport is used to demodulate those spectra, and to obtain the source energy spectra

Quantification of Climate Changes and Human Activities That Impact Runoff in the Taihu Lake Basin, China

    Get PDF
Although a fragile climate region, the Taihu Lake Basin is among the most developed regions in China and is subjected to intense anthropogenic interference. In this basin, water resources encounter major challenges (e.g., floods, typhoons, and water pollution). In this study, the impacts of climate changes and human activities on hydrological processes were estimated to aid water resource management in developed regions in China. The Mann-Kendall test and cumulative anomaly curve were applied to detect the turning points in the runoff series. The year of 1982 divides the study period (1956~2008) into a baseline period (1956~1981) and a modified period (1982~2008). The double mass curve method and the hydrological sensitivity method based on the Budyko framework were applied to quantitatively attribute the runoff variation to climate changes and human activities. The results demonstrated that human activities are the dominant driving force of runoff variations in the basin, with a contribution of 83~89%; climate changes contributed to 11~17% of the variations. Moreover, the subregions of the basin indicated that humans severely disturbed the runoff variation, with contributions as high as 95~97%

The 'africanity' of the Canary Islands: From international debate to the Spanish reaction (1956-1981)

This article examines the debate on the Spanishness of the Canary Islands in the second half of the twentieth century (1956-1981) with a twofold objective: to analyse the international controversy on whether the archipelago was a territory to be decolonized, and to examine the Spanish Government’s reaction to this issue. The work draws on detailed bibliographical study, together with international organisations documentation, the published press, and some protagonists’ testimonies. The involvement of various actors –both national, regional and international– provides an idea of the dimension of this controversial debate. The findings of this research reveal that the controversy was not anecdotic, but lasted for more than two decades. In fact, there was a real possibility that the Canary Islands could go through a decolonization process
