Impact of trust on local residents' mega-event perceptions and their support

This study examines the influence of residents’ trust in government and organizing committee on their impact perceptions and support for a mega-event, namely, 2014 FIFA World Cup. Findings suggest significant relationships between impact perceptions and support. While trust in government is found to be a significant determinant of impact perceptions, findings indicate no significant relationship between trust in government and support, which suggest that the relationship is mediated by impact perceptions. While a positive relationship between trust in the organizing committee and positive impact perceptions is found, findings suggest no significant relationship between trust in the organizing committee and negative impact perceptions. Trust in the organizing committee is also found to have significant positive impact on support

Spiritual attitudes and visitor motivations at the Beltane Fire Festival, Edinburgh.

Outside the peak season for tourism to Edinburgh, Scotland, during the evening of April 30th, visitors attend a festival with ancient Celtic overtones. Frequently, the evening is cold and windy. Our objectives are to: identify motivations for attending the festival; trial questionnaire items on spiritual attitude; and assess whether spirituality might be relevant in assessing visitor intentions. The method of investigation involved exploration and confirmation phases to test structures in distinct subsamples. Further, a strict approach was applied to identify factors that had theoretical value. Spirituality attitude is found to be a factor, as well as the motivations of cultural adventure and escape. Given the nature of the event, the time of year and composition of the audience, encouraging repeat visitation and using this to develop and manage Edinburgh's tourism strategy has potential. Recommendations are made to management

Examining the nature involvement and green consumption values of nature photography tourists

This study examines the nature involvement and green consumption values of nature photography tourists. A questionnaire, developed and based on the literature, was used to collect data from the members of nature photography associations located in Adana and Mersin, Turkey. A total of 277 usable responses were obtained. Results suggested that attractiveness, identity expression and social bonding were the main involvement reasons for nature photographers. Results also suggested that there was a strong correlation between nature photography tourists? nature involvement and their green consumption values. Conclusions and implications were drawn based on the findings

Comparative Research of Motivations across Different Festival products

The study has three objectives. The first objective of this paper is to investigate the underlying dimensions of motivation for attending an international festival in Turkey and whether motivation will vary across six different festival products (symphony, rock, world music, dance, ballet, and theater). The second purpose is to understand how festival attendees perceive the socio-economic impacts of the festival and how these perceived impacts vary across different festival attendee groups. Finally, the study examines the overall satisfaction of festival attendees with respect to different festival products. Design/methodology/approach – The empirical data was collected by way of self-administered questionnaires to obtain perceptions and motivations of 523 attendees in Eskisehir International Festival. Findings – The results showed that there were significant differences in motivation among attendees from six different festival products. Duncan's multiple-range tests were performed to further examine differences in motivation among these attendees. The mean scores of different groups indicate that “rock event” attendees tended to have lower motivation scores than other groups and have the lowest ratings on the factor of “family togetherness”. However, attendees did not differ on the perceived importance of socio-economic impacts and satisfaction with the festival, irrespective of the festival product attended. Originality/value – Festivals and special events have increased worldwide because they provide significant economic, socio-cultural, and political impacts on destinations. While a plethora of studies have examined tourists' motivation and socio-economic impacts, little research has been conducted on the motivation and socio-economic impact of festival attendees with regard to different product offering

A Pilot Study on Spectators’ Motivations and Their Socio-Economic Perceptions of a Film Festival

    No full text
The main objective of this pilot study is to examine spectators’ motives for attending a film festival, their perceptions of socio-economic impacts of the festival to the host community, and their satisfaction with the festival utilizing data collected from the attendees of the Transylvania International Film Festival, which takes place on a regular basis in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The results indicate that there are significant variations in motivations, satisfaction, and perceptions of impacts across gender, age, level of education, and occupation of attendees. Theoretical contributions, managerial implications, and limitations are addressed

Impacts of festivals and events on residents’ well-being

This study investigated how residents’ participation in local festivals may influence their subjective-well-being and their quality of life. Using data collected from local attendees of a film festival, this study examined the relationship between socio-cultural impacts of a festival and subjective well-being of local residents. Findings revealed that while community benefits and cultural/educational benefits are positive predictors of subjective well-being of residents, quality life concerns were found to have negative impact on the well-being of residents. Findings also revealed no significant relationship between community resource concerns and subjective well-being of residents

demirci, serpil/0000-0002-6579-4273WOS: 000489305700012This study was designed to synthesize hybridizing molecules starting from compound of 6-(4-phenyl-piperazin-1-yl)pyridine-3-ylamine by enhancing its biological activity with other heterocycles and to determine anticancer activity of the resulting compounds. To this end, 6-(4-phenylpiperazin-1-yl)pyridin-3-ylamine (4) was used as the leading compound, which is known to exert anticancer activities. The synthesis of the leading compound was carried out using 1-(5-nitropyridin-2-yl)-4-phenylpiperazine (3) which was obtained by a novel method with the reaction of N-phenylpiperazine (2) and 2-chloro-5-nitropyridine. 6-(4-phenylpiperazin-1-yl)pyridin-3-ylamine (4) was converted to compound 5, an active intermediate compound, by substitution of one of the amine hydrogens with ethyl bromoacetate. The resulting ester product (5) followed by the hydrazidation (6) was added arylisocyanate to obtain the active intermediate (8). Then, by a series of substitution through cyclization and condensation reactions, thiazolidinone (9), 1,3,4-oxadiazole (7), and 1,2,4-triazole (10) were synthesized. Novel Mannich bases (11a-11f and 12a-12f) were obtained using oxazole (7) and triazole (10) hetero rings with primer or secondary amine compounds. The characterization of the compounds was completed using FT IR, H-1-NMR, C-13-NMR, HRMS spectroscopic methods and elemental analysis technique. The chemicals, then, were tested for their anticancer activities against prostate cancer cell lines PC3 [ATCC, CRL-1435], LNCaP [ATCC, CRL-1740], and DU145 [ATCC, HTB-81]. The results revealed that the Mannich bases exhibited moderate cytotoxic activity against cancer cells tested.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK)Turkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Arastirma Kurumu (TUBITAK) [116Z932]The support provided by Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK, Project no: 116Z932) is gratefully acknowledged.
