    Solar wind reconnection exhausts in the inner heliosphere observed by helios and detected via machine learning

    Reconnecting current sheets in the solar wind play an important role in the dynamics of the heliosphere and offer an opportunity to study magnetic reconnection exhausts under a wide variety of inflow and magnetic shear conditions. However, progress in understanding reconnection can be frustrated by the difficulty of finding events in long time-series data. Here we describe a new method to detect magnetic reconnection events in the solar wind based on machine learning, and apply it to Helios data in the inner heliosphere. The method searches for known solar wind reconnection exhaust features, and parameters in the algorithm are optimized to maximize the Matthews Correlation Coefficient using a training set of events and non-events. Applied to the whole Helios data set, the trained algorithm generated a candidate set of events that were subsequently verified by hand, resulting in a database of 88 events. This approach offers a significant reduction in construction time for event databases compared to purely manual approaches. The database contains events covering a range of heliospheric distances from ~0.3 to ~1 au, and a wide variety of magnetic shear angles, but is limited by the relatively coarse time resolution of the Helios data. Analysis of these events suggests that proton heating by reconnection in the inner heliosphere depends on the available magnetic energy in a manner consistent with observations in other regimes such as at the Earth's magnetopause, suggesting this may be a universal feature of reconnection

    Measurement of W-pair production in e+ee^+ e^- collisions at 189 GeV

    The production of W-pairs is analysed in a data samplecollected by ALEPH at a mean centre-of-mass energy of 188.6 GeV,corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 174.2 pb^-1. Crosssections are given for different topologies of W decays intoleptons or hadrons. Combining all final states and assumingStandard Model branching fractions, the total W-pair cross sectionis measured to be 15.71 +- 0.34 (stat) +- 0.18 (syst) pb.Using also the W-pair data samples collected by ALEPH at lowercentre-of-mass energies, the decay branching fraction of the W bosoninto hadrons is measured to be BR (W hadrons) = 66.97+- 0.65 (stat) +- 0.32 (syst) %, allowing a determination of theCKM matrix element |V(cs)|= 0.951 +- 0.030 (stat) +- 0.015 (syst)

    Searches for neutral Higgs bosons in e+ee^{+}e^{-} collisions at centre-of-mass energies from 192 to 202 GeV

    Searches for neutral Higgs bosons are performed with the 237 pb^-1 of data collected in 1999 by the ALEPH detector at LEP, for centre-of-mass energies between 191.6 and 201.6 GeV. These searches apply to Higgs bosons within the context of the Standard Model and its minimal supersymmetric extension (MSSM) as well as to invisibly decaying Higgs bosons. No evidence of a signal is seen. A lower limit on the mass of the Standard Model Higgs boson of 107.7 GeV/c^2 at 95% confidence level is set. In the MSSM, lower limits of 91.2 and 91.6 GeV/c^2 are derived for the masses of the neutral Higgs bosons h and A, respectively. For a Higgs boson decaying invisibly and produced with the Standard Model cross section, masses below 106.4 GeV/c^2 are excluded

    Search for neutral heavy leptons produced in ZZ decays

    Weak isosinglet Neutral Heavy Leptons (νm) have been searched for using data collected by the DELPHI detector corresponding to 3.3 × 106 hadronic Z0 decays at LEP1. Four separate searches have been performed, for short-lived νm production giving monojet or acollinear jet topologies, and for long-lived νm giving detectable secondary vertices or calorimeter clusters. No indication of the existence of these particles has been found, leading to an upper limit for the branching ratio BR(Z0 → νmν̄) of about 1.3 × 10-6 at 95% confidence level for νm masses between 3.5 and 50 GeV/c2. Outside this range the limit weakens rapidly with the νm mass. The results are also interpreted in terms of limits for the single production of excited neutrinos. © Springer-Verlag 1997

    Measurement of Trilinear Gauge Couplings in e+ee^+ e^- Collisions at 161 GeV and 172 GeV

    Trilinear gauge boson couplings are measured using data taken by DELPHI at 161~GeV and 172~GeV. Values for WWVWWV couplings (V=Z,γV=Z, \gamma) are determined from a study of the reactions \eeWW\ and \eeWev, using differential distributions from the WWWW final state in which one WW decays hadronically and the other leptonically, and total cross-section data from other channels. Limits are also derived on neutral ZVγZV\gamma couplings from an analysis of the reaction \eegi

    Measurement of the W mass by direct reconstruction in e+ee^+ e^- collisions at 172 GeV

    The mass of the W boson is obtained from reconstructed invariant mass distributions in W-pair events. The sample of W pairs is selected from 10.65~pb1^{-1} collected with the ALEPH detector at a mean centre-of-mass energy of 172.09 \GEV. The invariant mass distribution of simulated events are fitted to the experimental distributions and the following W masses are obtained: WWqqqqmW=81.30+0.47(stat.)+0.11(syst.)GeV/c2WW \to q\overline{q}q\overline{q } m_W = 81.30 +- 0.47(stat.) +- 0.11(syst.) GeV/c^2, WWlνqq(l=e,μ)mW=80.54+0.47(stat.)+0.11(syst.)GeV/c2WW \to l\nu q\overline{q}(l=e,\mu) m_W = 80.54 +- 0.47(stat.) +- 0.11(syst.) GeV/c^2, WWτνqqmW=79.56+1.08(stat.)+0.23(syst.)GeV/C62WW \to \tau\nu q\overline{q} m_W = 79.56 +- 1.08(stat.) +- 0.23(syst.) GeV/C62. The statistical errors are the expected errors for Monte Carlo samples of the same integrated luminosity as the data. The combination of these measurements gives: mW=80.80+0.11(syst.)+0.03(LEPenergy)GeV/2m_W = 80.80 +- 0.11(syst.) +- 0.03(LEP energy) GeV/^2

    Test of lepton universality in bs+b \rightarrow s \ell^+ \ell^- decays

    The first simultaneous test of muon-electron universality using B+K++B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}\ell^{+}\ell^{-} and B0K0+B^{0}\rightarrow K^{*0}\ell^{+}\ell^{-} decays is performed, in two ranges of the dilepton invariant-mass squared, q2q^{2}. The analysis uses beauty mesons produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb1\mathrm{fb}^{-1}. Each of the four lepton universality measurements reported is either the first in the given q2q^{2} interval or supersedes previous LHCb measurements.     Precision measurement of CP\it{CP} violation in the penguin-mediated decay Bs0ϕϕB_s^{0}\rightarrow\phi\phi

    A flavor-tagged time-dependent angular analysis of the decay Bs0ϕϕB_s^{0}\rightarrow\phi\phi is performed using pppp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at % at s=13\sqrt{s}=13 TeV, the center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb^{-1}. The CP\it{CP}-violating phase and direct CP\it{CP}-violation parameter are measured to be ϕssˉs=0.042±0.075±0.009\phi_{s\bar{s}s} = -0.042 \pm 0.075 \pm 0.009 rad and λ=1.004±0.030±0.009|\lambda|=1.004\pm 0.030 \pm 0.009 , respectively, assuming the same values for all polarization states of the ϕϕ\phi\phi system. In these results, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. These parameters are also determined separately for each polarization state, showing no evidence for polarization dependence. The results are combined with previous LHCb measurements using pppp collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, yielding ϕssˉs=0.074±0.069\phi_{s\bar{s}s} = -0.074 \pm 0.069 rad and lambda=1.009±0.030|lambda|=1.009 \pm 0.030. This is the most precise study of time-dependent CP\it{CP} violation in a penguin-dominated BB meson decay.
