Inelastic light, neutron, and X-ray scatterings related to the heterogeneous elasticity of glasses
The effects of plasticization of poly(methyl methacrylate) glass on the boson
peaks observed by Raman and neutron scattering are compared. In plasticized
glass the cohesion heterogeneities are responsible for the neutron boson peak
and partially for the Raman one, which is enhanced by the composition
heterogeneities. Because the composition heterogeneities have a size similar to
that of the cohesion ones and form quasiperiodic clusters, as observed by small
angle X-ray scattering, it is inferred that the cohesion heterogeneities in a
normal glass form nearly periodic arrangements too. Such structure at the
nanometric scale explains the linear dispersion of the vibrational frequency
versus the transfer momentum observed by inelastic X-ray scattering.Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures, to be published in J. Non-Cryst. Solids

Non-Commutative Corrections to the MIC-Kepler Hamiltonian
Non-commutative corrections to the MIC-Kepler System (i.e. hydrogen atom in
the presence of a magnetic monopole) are computed in Cartesian and parabolic
coordinates. Despite the fact that there is no simple analytic expression for
non-commutative perturbative corrections to the MIC-Kepler spectrum, there is a
term that gives rise to the linear Stark effect which didn't exist in the
standard hydrogen model.Comment: 5 page
On Maximal Unbordered Factors
Given a string of length , its maximal unbordered factor is the
longest factor which does not have a border. In this work we investigate the
relationship between and the length of the maximal unbordered factor of
. We prove that for the alphabet of size the expected length
of the maximal unbordered factor of a string of length~ is at least
(for sufficiently large values of ). As an application of this result, we
propose a new algorithm for computing the maximal unbordered factor of a
string.Comment: Accepted to the 26th Annual Symposium on Combinatorial Pattern

Quantum integrability of quadratic Killing tensors
Quantum integrability of classical integrable systems given by quadratic
Killing tensors on curved configuration spaces is investigated. It is proven
that, using a "minimal" quantization scheme, quantum integrability is insured
for a large class of classic examples.Comment: LaTeX 2e, no figure, 35 p., references added, minor modifications. To

High order vibration modes of glass embedded AgAu nanoparticles
High resolution low frequency Raman scattering measurements from embedded
AgAu nanoparticles unveil efficient scattering by harmonics of both the
quadrupolar and the spherical modes. Comparing the experimental data with
theoretical calculations that account for both the embedding medium and the
resonant Raman process enables a very complete description of the observed
multiple components in terms of harmonics of both the quadrupolar and spherical
modes, with a dominating Raman response from the former ones. It is found that
only selected harmonics of the quadrupolar mode contribute significantly to the
Raman spectra in agreement with earlier theoretical predictions.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figure
Earnings Mobility in Argentina, Mexico, and Venezuela: Testing the Divergence of Earnings and the Symmetry of Mobility Hypotheses
This paper examines changes in individual earnings during positive and negative growth periods in three Latin American economies: Argentina, Mexico, and Venezuela. We ask whether those individuals who start in the best economic position are those who experience the largest earnings gains or the smallest earnings losses; this is the “divergent mobility” hypothesis. We also compare periods of positive economic growth with those of negative economic growth, asking whether those groups of individuals that experience large positive earnings gains when the economy is growing are the same as those that experience large earnings losses when the economy is contracting; this is the “symmetry of mobility” hypothesis. We find very occasional support for the divergent mobility hypothesis in scattered years in the cases of Mexico and Venezuela, and no support at all in the case of Argentina. Rather, earnings mobility is most frequently convergent or neutral in all three countries. As for the symmetry of mobility hypothesis, we find that it is rejected in most cases; rather, those groups that gain the most when the economy is growing are also the ones that gain the most when the economy is contracting. Furthermore, we explain how the absence of divergence is compatible with rising inequality in the countries under study
Income Mobility in Latin America
[Excerpt] In the last decades Latin American countries have experienced substantial macroeconomic instability. While the region as a whole experienced economic growth during most of the 1990’s and 2000’s, there were also years of stagnation as well as economic decline
Anyon wave equations and the noncommutative plane
The ``Jackiw-Nair'' non-relativistic limit of the relativistic anyon
equations provides us with infinite-component wave equations of the
Dirac-Majorana-Levy-Leblond type for the ``exotic'' particle, associated with
the two-fold central extension of the planar Galilei group. An infinite
dimensional representation of the Galilei group is found. The velocity operator
is studied, and the observable coordinates describing a noncommutative plane
are identified.Comment: 11 pages, typos correcte
Projectively equivariant quantizations over the superspace
We investigate the concept of projectively equivariant quantization in the
framework of super projective geometry. When the projective superalgebra
pgl(p+1|q) is simple, our result is similar to the classical one in the purely
even case: we prove the existence and uniqueness of the quantization except in
some critical situations. When the projective superalgebra is not simple (i.e.
in the case of pgl(n|n)\not\cong sl(n|n)), we show the existence of a
one-parameter family of equivariant quantizations. We also provide explicit
formulas in terms of a generalized divergence operator acting on supersymmetric
tensor fields.Comment: 19 page
