The DOCENTIA Programme: basis, development and implications
A continuación,
This paper aims to show the historical development of a programme
supporting the assessment of the teaching activities of university professors called
DOCENTIA, covering its origins, aims, and implementation within Spanish higher
education institutions. Firstly, we will explain the antecedents on teacher assessment
in higher education institutions, which are linked to the development of the University
Reform Act, and up to the current Act on Universities (LOMLOU, 2007). Next, we will
describe the nature of DOCENTIA as a tool adapted to the quality assurance demands
in the new university context. Following this, we will present an analysis comparing the
seventeen models of teacher assessment which were certified as of December 2017 by
the assessment agencies based on objective
criteria. Then, we will explain the development of the programme in both qualitative
and quantitative terms within the Spanish university system. We will finish off by
reflecting on the practical implications of the teaches assessment tool DOCENTIA in the
improvement of the teaching practice within Spanish universities
The statistical multivariate analysis of Likert response scales, given their widespread use, is a controversial issue in the scientific community, mainly from the specification of the problem of measurement. This work aims to study various conditions of these ordinal scales affect the calculation of the product-moment and tetrachoric-polychoric correlation coefficients. For this purpose, a simulation study was applied in which 90 databases with 10 items each were generated. In the estimation of the databases, the following variables were controlled: number of response categories, symmetrical or asymmetric distributions of data, sample size and level of relationship between items. Thus, 90 matrices (10x10) were obtained which included the difference between the product-moment and tetrachoric-polychoric correlations. The graphical and variance analysis show how the product-moment correlation coefficient significantly underestimates the relationship between variables mainly when the number of response categories of the ordinal scale is small and the relationship between the variables is large. On the other hand, the statistical estimation of both coefficients is very similar when the starting relationship between pairs of variables is small and/or when the number of response options of the variables is greater than 5. The study concludes by making a recommendation to the applied researcher on the most appropriate correlation coefficient depending on the type of data available. Finally, the results are discussed from the previous studies, which reach some similar conclusions
The AIDIPE2017 Conference, XVIII International Conference of Educational Research: Interdisciplinarity and Transfer
The eighteenth edition of the International Conference of Educational Research in Spain, organized by the Interuniversity Association of Pedagogical Research (AIDIPE), in collaboration with the Research Institute for Educational Sciences (IUCE) of the University of Salamanca, was held a few months ago (June 28 to 30, 2017) in the setting of the celebration of the 8th Centenary of the University of Salamanca (1218-2018). This scientific event that was born more than thirty years ago by the impulse of young researchers in education at the dawn of a new Spanish University, in order to bring together colleagues and friends and share experiences and advances in methodology and content of research in education, reaches the longest Spanish University. Quality assurance as Base for Mobility
[EN] The Bologna process has been the most influential milestone in the modernization of Higher Education
in all Europe, but in Spain in particular. One of the central pillars on which pivots this important change
are the quality assurance systems, the focus of this article, as key to mobility and cooperation between
institutions of Higher Education.
This article attempts to reflect on the concept, content and methodology that involve the quality
assurance systems. To do this, we analyze fist the objectives of European policy through the perspective
of academic mobility. After them, the different perspectives of quality assurance are analyzed, departing both from the approach of quality assessment for continuous improvement and from the summative or
accountability approach.
Third, we examine the quality assurance from a methodological perspective, taking into account
the European criteria and guidelines. We also analyze how these processes are being both internally and
externally developed, reviewing the roll of the different agents for the quality involved in them. Finally,
by way of conclusion, we present some ideas for improvement and some solutions for a short and
medium term, highlighting the importance of strengthening the need for greater personal involvement,
cooperation, interdisciplinarity, teamwork and responsibility.Rodríguez Conde, MJ. (2011). REDU. LMS openness perception in educational and technological areas
The application of the Information and Communications Technology implies changes in the means that support learning. This leads to the emergence of lot of tools that aim to improve students’ learning. One of the most relevant tools are learning management systems. However these tools are on the one hand, mostly focused on the institution and the course and not too much on the learner, and on the other they are very monolithic and closed environments. It is necessary to facilitate the evolution and openness of these platforms in a way they can fulfil
students’ needs, and to do this a service-based framework is proposed. It has been validated through experiences in
educational and technological areas and they were compared with each other. This allow to check that opening learning platforms is possible and not only in technological context but in other areas.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
Active Ageing and Access to Technology: An Evolving Empirical Study
Researchers' interest in seeing the benefits of Internet in elderly people is now growing. The network helps this group to increase communication, avoid isolation and loneliness and to age actively. Europe decided 2012 to be the Year of Active ageing. This paper presents a descriptive study of time series analysis carried out between 2004 and 2012 with the aim of knowing how the evolution in the level, motives and needs of the use of computers and Internet by elderly people in an environment of university training focused on health and life quality is. To obtain results a question paper is to be handed out to a sample of 419 people aged between 55 and 94 and taking part in the «Inter-university Programs of Experiences» from the University of Burgos. The obtained results match up with previous studies that pointed a noticeable increase in the use of the Internet (in frequency, number of users and resources) caused by elderly people's desire to keep active, up-to-date and communicated, as well as their need to continue their learning process through tools linked to the network. Here some suggestions focused on the improvement elderly people's formation and future research on the perception of the Internet as a tool for social participation
A Non-Stressful Temperature Rise and Greater Food Availability Could Increase Tolerance to Calcium Limitation of Daphnia cf. pulex (Sensu Hebert, 1995) Populations in Cold Soft-Water Lakes
Calcium (Ca) is an important driver of community structure in freshwaters. We examined the combined effects of increased temperatures and variations in food quantity on the tolerance to low Ca of Daphnia pulex. The aim was to predict the impact of climate warming on this keystone zooplanktonic species in cold-climate lakes. We conducted a factorial life-history experiment in a clone of North American Daphnia cf. pulex to analyse the interaction effects of a temperature increase (17.5 degrees C-21 degrees C) within their physiological preferred range and expected by climate warming over the next few decades and a narrow Ca gradient (0.25-1.74 mg Ca L-1) under stressful vs. abundant food conditions. We found a striking positive synergistic effect of Ca and temperature on D. pulex reproduction at high food conditions. Although the increase in temperature to 21 degrees C greatly reduced survival, high energy allocation to reproduction at high food levels allowed the population to succeed in poor Ca (<0.25 mg Ca L-1). Results suggest that climate warming and higher food availability will make the populations of many cold and Ca-limited lakes more tolerant to low Ca levels with higher growth population rates, thereby altering zooplanktonic community structures and inducing potential cascading effects on the food web.Organismo Autonomo de Parques Nacionales (Ministerio para la Transicion Ecologica y el Reto Demografico, Spain) PN2017-2403SJunta de Andalucia RNM-12
