Matching Portuguese retail e-businesses to online consumers

E-commerce is being rapidly diffused geographically and is shaping all sort of industries that seek solutions to meet increasing society demands. Due to its growing importance, researchers are finding ways to track the impacts and variations of this technology all over the world. Some approaches focus on specific industries including e-grocery shopping that function as a branch for e-retail with a large number of product categories. With so many variables, there are still gaps on the research of certain product categories and countries. This research fills the gap of the online grocery retailing literature in Portugal. The research contributes to a clarification of what consumers are valuing online, for grocery shopping, in comparison to what retailers are offering. Through an extensive literature review, it was developed a tool that combines the 41 most important attributes for online consumers into 5 different dimensions: Shopping Experience, Accessibility, Security, Interactions and Customer Service. This study allows to conclude that there are three different maturity stages regarding the online supply of groceries. On a more mature phase it can be found Continente and Jumbo e-retailers that greatly exceed customer expectations. Secondly it can be found El Corte Ingles that is not as mature as the previous competitors but demonstrates a clear vision and strategy for development. Finally, with the least mature offer, it can be found Intermarché, which does not meet customer expectations. Devido à crescente importância, investigadores procuram formas de acompanhar os impactos desta tecnologia a nível mundial. Algumas abordagens centramse em indústrias específicas como o mercado alimentar online, que funciona como uma ramificação do retalho online mais abrangente, que engloba um número grande de categorias. Com tantas variáveis, existem ainda lacunas na pesquisa de determinadas categorias de produtos e países. Este trabalho preenche a lacuna sobre o mercado alimentar online em Portugal. Visa clarificar o que os consumidores valorizam no mercado alimentar online, por comparação com a oferta dos retalhistas online. Através de uma extensa revisão de literatura, desenvolveu-se uma ferramenta que agrega os 41 atributos mais importantes para os consumidores online em 5 dimensões: Experiência de Compra, Acessibilidade, Segurança, Interações e Apoio ao Cliente. Este estudo permite concluir que existem três diferentes estádios de maturação no mercado alimentar online. Numa fase mais madura encontram-se o Continente e o Jumbo que excedem as expectativas dos consumidores. Em seguida, o El Corte Inglês cuja oferta não se encontra tão amadurecida como a dos seus concorrentes anteriormente mencionados, mas demonstra uma visão e estratégia claras para o seu desenvolvimento. Finalmente, a oferta menos madura do mercado provém do Intermarché, que não vai ao encontro das expectativas dos consumidores. Comparar os modelos de negócio retalhistas existentes com os consumidores online é um ponto de partida para compreender e prever a potencialidade do mercado alimentar online em Portugal

THE ENERGETIC PERFORMANCE OF OLD BUILDINGS: HOW TO IMPROVE IT?

Along the years, in Portugal, the built environment was left behind and the straights were devoted for new buildings, creating new urban areas sometimes unattached from the existing city. The construction before the 80’s is compromised by its thermal quality if we consider that the thermal codes and the worry about thermal buildings behavior only came up around 90’s. In this work, the buildings from old city centers and its characteristics were studied as well as some intervention actions accurate for this construction and its results in terms of thermal performance. For this study a simulation tool was used, namely the Design Builder, and the results of these simulations were presented in order to understand the improvement in its thermal behavior when compared with its original conditions. It is possible to improve considerably the interior comfort and buildings thermal behavior with respect by architectonic characteristics and keeping constructive solutions and material with interventions actions that are compatible with existing structures

Effect of crown-to-implant ratio and crown height space on marginal bone stress: a finite element analysis

Crown-to-implant ratio and crown height space, associated with the use of short implants, have been related with marginal bone loss. However, it is unclear which of the two entities would play the most important role on the bone remodelling process. Using a finite element analysis, the present work aims to help clarifying how those two factors contribute for the stress generation at the marginal bone level. A numerical model (reference model), with a crown-to-implant ratio of 4, was double validated and submitted to a numerical calculation. Then, it was modified in two different ways: (a) by decreasing the prosthetic height obtaining crown-to-implant ratios of 3, 2.5 and 2 and (b) by increasing the implants length obtaining a crown-to-implant ratio of 2.08. Caracterização dinâmica da ponte Luiz Bandeira em Sejães

A Ponte Luiz Bandeira, localizada na N333-3 sobre o Rio Vouga próxima da localidade de Sejães (Oliveira de Frades), é hoje considerada como a mais antiga ponte de betão armado em utilização no nosso país, e uma das mais velhas da Europa. Recentemente foram realizados na Ponte Luiz Bandeira um conjunto de ensaios de inspecção e diagnóstico estrutural que incluíram, entre outros, uma identificação dinâmica para a determinação das frequências naturais, modos de vibração e coeficientes de amortecimento. Para a elaboração da campanha experimental, primeiramente foi efectuada uma análise numérica de sensibilidade da resposta dinâmica da ponte, que permitiu melhor definir os procedimentos de ensaio em campo. Na ponte foram efectuados dois tipos de ensaios dinâmicos: ensaios com ruído ambiente e ensaios para a determinação dos coeficientes de amortecimento com recurso à passagem de um automóvel sobre uma prancha no pavimento a diferentes velocidades. Posteriormente, os resultados da identificação dinâmica foram utilizados para a calibração do modelo numérico que permitiu aferir, juntamente com os restantes ensaios de inspecção e diagnóstico, o estado de conservação estrutural da ponte Luiz Bandeira. An integrated GPS/PDA/GIS telegeoprocessing system for traffic & environment

The development of sustainable urban transport networks is a present priority for world leaders, national governors and local authorities. The challenge is to increase mobility reducing the adverse impacts of transport. The potential of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to provide solutions for the 21st century sustainable urban transport system has already been demonstrated in several piecewise applications. An integrated framework that addresses the needs of municipal authorities, that integrates the data spread through different sources, that supports the intelligent traffic & environment operations, and that provides information to the citizens steering their involvement and commitment is of critical importance and can be the enabler towards the creation of more efficient, safety, and environmental-friendly transport networks that promote the citizens’ quality of life. This work describes an integrated GPS (Global Positioning System) / PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) / GIS (Geographical Information System) system which is part of the mentioned framework. The system includes prototypes for mobile urban traffic data acquisition, with a GPS -equipped vehicle, a PDA application and wireless communications, and for a geodatabase with a related Web application for urban traffic & environment. Contributo para a eficácia, eficiência e qualidade de processos na administração pública

Trabalho de projeto submetido como requisito para obtenção do grau de mestre em gestão e Políticas PúblicasAo longo dos últimos anos, uma das principais linhas de orientação na Administração Pública tem sido a aposta consistente na simplificação e desmaterialização de processos, com vista à otimização dos recursos disponíveis, tanto humanos como materiais. Têm-se desenvolvido estratégias e programas de apoio à modernização administrativa com vista a contribuir para o desenvolvimento de uma administração pública moderna, eficaz, eficiente e com qualidade. Atendendo a esta lógica de ação, o presente trabalho de projeto, no âmbito do curso de Mestrado em Gestão e Políticas Públicas, pretende, mediante proposta de implementação de um sistema de gestão documental e workflow, contribuir para a melhoria contínua do processo de desenvolvimento de modelos documentais, com vista a melhorar substancialmente o desempenho e a qualidade dos serviços prestados pela Direção-Geral da Política de Justiça (DGPJ).Along the last years, one of the main guidelines in Public Administration has been the consistent bet in the simplification and dematerialization of processes, aiming the optimization of the available resources, both human and material. Workers on strike in Brazil and the development of awareness : from the "Keynesian" capitalism to the liberalization of capital and production restructuring

Assim, a passagem do capitalismo competitivo para o monopolista, a reestruturação das atividades produtivas não só afetam como transformam as relações de trabalho. Na sociedade de classes, em que as relações de trabalho se apresentam como relações de exploração e de dominação, por meio de arranjos institucionais (aqui chamados de acordo ou negociações) são tomadas decisões acerca do trabalho. Essas decisões expressam relações de poder, capacidade de pressão de grupos sociais (como os sindicatos) na luta pela defesa de direitos (demandas). As relações de trabalho (na sociedade capitalista) caracterizam-se por relações de assalariamento. Na perspectiva marxista por relações de exploração ou de extração de sobre trabalho (mais valia) pelo capitalista que tem por objetivo a realização do valor (a acumulação do capital). Os interesses contraditórios permitem a construção de relações de conflito ou de consenso no processo de trabalho. O consenso, de forma geral, resulta da coerção. O caráter conflituoso das relações de trabalho e suas possibilidades de tornar-se aberto, visível, dando origem aos processos de resistência (como a greve) é o foco desta pesquisa. A greve é tomada como uma ação coletiva que permite a construção de processos de pertencimento de consciência de classe e que também possibilita a mudança nas relações sociais de produção. A questão central que orienta a análise é indagar os alcances e os limites da greve (na dimensão apontada) na sociedade brasileira contemporânea.Abstract: The study concerns industrial relations in Brazil, taking place in factories, as a set of arrangements which may or not be constitutional and which organize the social relations of production at the workplace. Thus, the change from a competitive capitalism to a monopolistic sort and the restructuring of the productive activities not only affect but also transform industrial relations. In the class society, in which industrial relations present themselves as relations of exploitation and domination, by means of institutional arrangements (herein referred to as agreement or negotiation), decisions concerning labor are made. Such decisions express power relations, and the capacity to exert social group pressure (such as labor unions) in the struggle for the defense of rights (demands). The industrial relations (in the capitalist society) are characterized by salary relations. In the marxist perspective, they are characterized by relations of exploitation and surplus labor (surplus value) on the part of the capitalist, whose aim is the realization of value (accumulation of capital). The opposing interests between capital and labor lead to relations of either conflict or consensus in the industrial process. Consensus, on the whole, results from coercion. The conflicting nature of industrial relations and the possibility of their becoming open, visible, allowing for processes of resistance (such as strikes) is the focus of this research. Strikes are taken as collective actions which allow for the constructions of processes of belonging class awareness and which enables changes to take place in the social industrial relations. Redistributing deaths by ill-defined and unspecified causes on cancer mortality in Brazil

OBJECTIVE to discuss the impact four different redistribution strategies have on the quantitative and temporal trends of cancer mortality assessment in Brazil. METHODOLOGY This study used anonymized and georeferenced data provided by the Brazilian Ministry of Health (BMoH). Four different approaches were used to conduct the redistribution of ill-defined deaths and garbage codes. Age-standardized mortality rates used the world population as reference. Prais-Winsten autoregression allowed the calculation of region, sex, and cancer type trends. RESULTS Death rates increased considerably in all regions after redistribution. Overall, Elisabeth B. França’s and the World Health Organization methods had a milder impact on trends and rate magnitudes when compared to the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2010 method. This study also observed that, when the BMoH dealt with the problem of redistributing ill-defined deaths, results were similar to those obtained by the GBD method. The redistribution methods also influenced the assessment of trends; however, differences were less pronounced. CONCLUSIONS Since developing a comparative gold standard is impossible, matching global techniques to local realities may be an alternative for methodological selection. In our study, the compatibility of the findings suggests how valid the GBD method is to the Brazilian context. However, caution is needed. Future studies should assess the impact of these methods as applied to the redistribution of deaths to type-specific neoplasms

Quais os determinantes do incumprimento do crédito bancário e o seu impacto no produto interno bruto?

JEL Classification System: E30, E32 E44.Esta dissertação tem como objetivo analisar os determinantes do incumprimento do crédito bancário, dividido em empresas e famílias, e ver qual o seu impacto no PIB. Foi elaborado um estudo econométrico sobre os principais determinantes do incumprimento do crédito bancário, com o rácio de crédito vencido das famílias e das sociedades não financeiras e uma inovadora variável o capital disponível dos bancos, estudo com uma periodicidade trimestral e uma duração do primeiro trimestre de 1999 até ao quarto trimestre de 2014. De todo este estudo econométrico há que realçar que o rácio de crédito vencido das sociedades não financeiras não afeta negativamente a taxa de variação do PIB, assim como o rácio de crédito vencido das famílias. Por sua vez o rácio de crédito vencido das sociedades não financeiras reage negativamente ao capital disponível dos bancos, o que significa que um reforço do capital, há uma diminuição do incumprimento, sendo que nas famílias isto não acontece, não reagindo ao capital disponível dos bancos. O PIB afeta negativamente o incumprimento e as taxas de juro e a taxa de inflação afetam positivamente o incumprimento. Por fim o capital dos bancos afeta positivamente o PIB.This thesis aims to analyze the determinants of default of bank credit, divided into companies and households, and see what its impact on GDP. Was developed an econometric study of the main determinants of bank credit default, with the overdue loans ratio for households and non-financial corporations and an innovative variable capital available from banks, study on a quarterly basis and a length of the first quarter of 1999 to the fourth quarter 2014. All the econometric study it should be noted that the overdue loans ratio for non-financial corporations does not adversely affect the GDP growth rate, as well as the overdue loans ratio for households. In turn non-performing loan ratio for non-financial corporations reacts negatively to the available capital of banks, which means a strengthening of the capital, there is a decrease of non-compliance, and in families, this does not happen, not reacting to the available capital of banks. GDP negatively affects the default and interest rates and the inflation rate positively affect the default. Finally, the capital of banks positively affects the GDP

Cláusulas de Sandbagging em contratos de alienação de participação societária e o dever de informação: uma análise sob a óptica do ordenamento jurídico brasileiro

Este trabalho monográfico tem por objetivo fomentar a discussão, ainda muito incipiente na seara jurídica brasileira, sobre uma nova modalidade de cláusula contratual, importada do direito norte-americano, e cuja adoção vêm se tornando cada vez mais recorrente em contratos de alienação de participação societária: as cláusulas de sandbagging. Em razão não só de sua natureza e peculiaridades, mas principalmente por garantir pretensões indenizatórias ao comprador que possuía conhecimento prévio ao fechamento do négocio acerca da quebra de alguma declaração ou garantia prestada pelo vendedor, tais cláusulas possuem grande potencial litigioso, o que, por conseguinte, demanda um cuidado especial na sua adoção, que deve ser adequada às circunstâncias concretas de cada negócio. O debate, portanto, gira em torno da admissibilidade de tais cláusulas sob a óptica do ordenamento jurídico brasileiro, principalmente à luz do fenômeno da constitucionalização do Direito Civil e da busca por uma conduta negocial coadunada aos deveres anexos da boa-fé objetiva, dentre eles, principalmente, o dever de informação
