DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.17227/01234870.41folios7.22Education on values looks for a certain and secure foundation from which to guide, explain and justify the intervention of educators. The critique of modernity questions the superiority that has been given to the theory about educational practice, and poses a new scenario for thinking about education. The article defends the desirability of abandoning securities and absolute truths for the benefit of an education in values starting with the questions of reality, an education that is concerned about helping people to learn how to live. In order to achieve these objectives, we propose a curriculum that is away from fixed contents. Instead, we propose a curriculum that offers a set of moral practices that allow young people to face reality and decide what aspects should be kept and which one will be their contribution to the current situation of society.

Recognition and talent in social education

The article approaches pedagogy from the idea of altruism and mutual help in contexts of vulnerability. A proposal which goes beyond the classical logic of assistance and support to the people who are socially excluded, and which recognises their ability to help others. Seen from the gift perspective, this type of pedagogy is not limited to compensating and restoring rights that have been violated but also recognises the capacity to contribute as a formative and civic dynamic. Classical anthropology describes the gift as a logic based on the dynamic of giving, receiving and reciprocating in social relationships. In contemporary sociology it is seen as a phenomenon of humanization and recognition, which is able to counteract the effects of instrumental logic, calculating rationality and commodification in modern societies. The article describes how a pedagogy aimed at recognition is built through a double-gift dynamism: the relationships and the practices of altruism. It requires trusting and demanding relationships that empower people, and practices that promote collaboration and enable contributions to the community, such as service learning.Educació

Enhancing the quality of service-learning practices

The article presents a tool –a rubric– intended to assess and enhance the educational quality of service-learning (sl) experiences. It starts out from the basic principle that optimum design of pedagogical practice has a direct effect on student learning. Hence the importance of creating methodologies which, like service learning, promote the acquisition of values, skills and knowledge students will find useful in life. The article then suggests a service-learning methodology that responds to these purposes and goes on to show the most significant contributions towards its definition. Some of the most representative proposals for the assessment of service-learning activities that precede the rubric are also included and a description is made of the rubric’s construction process through the creation of a research team working on the basis of rational reconstruction methodology. The core of the text is dedicated to presenting the research results: the rubric for self-evaluation of service-learning projects. To do this, the 12 dimensions that comprise the rubric are defined, structured into three categories –basic, pedagogical and organisational– and the levels of complexity that correspond to each dimension described. The article concludes with a brief section containing the results that application of the rubric offers teaching teams and including a spider chart as a graphic expression to enable almost immediate visualisation of the level of development of a service learning activity.</p

Impacts of Use and Abuse of Nature in Catalonia with Proposals for Sustainable Management

This paper provides an overview of the last 40 years of use, and in many cases abuse, of the natural resources in Catalonia, a country that is representative of European countries in general, and especially those in the Mediterranean region. It analyses the use of natural resources made by mining, agriculture, livestock, logging, fishing, nature tourism, and energy production and consumption. This use results in an ecological footprint, i.e., the productive land and sea surface required to generate the consumed resources and absorb the resulting waste, which is about seven times the amount available, a very high number but very similar to other European countries. This overexploitation of natural resources has a huge impact on land and its different forms of cover, air, and water. For the last 25 years, forests and urban areas have each gained almost 3% more of the territory at the expense of agricultural land; those municipalities bordering the sea have increased their number of inhabitants and activity, and although they only occupy 6.7% of the total surface area, they account for 43.3% of the population; air quality has stabilized since the turn of the century, and there has been some improvement in the state of aquatic ecosystems, but still only 36% are in good condition, while the remainder have suffered morphological changes and different forms of nonpoint source pollution; meanwhile the biodiversity of flora and fauna remains still under threat. Environmental policies do not go far enough so there is a need for revision of the legislation related to environmental impact and the protection of natural areas, flora, and fauna. The promotion of environmental research must be accompanied by environmental education to foster a society which is Land 2021, 10, 144 3 of 53 more knowledgeable, has more control and influence over the decisions that deeply affect it. Indeed, nature conservation goes hand in hand with other social and economic challenges that require a more sustainable vision. Today’s problems with nature derive from the current economic model, which is environmentally unsustainable in that it does not take into account environmental impacts. Lastly, we propose a series of reasonable and feasible priority measures and actions related to each use made of the country’s natural resources, to the impacts they have had, and to their management, in the hope that these can contribute to improving the conservation and management of the environment and biodiversity and move towards sustainability.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

This article attempts, in the first place, to draw a map of the different cognitive processes in the production of Pedagogical knowledge. To do this, distinctions are made between thinking, contemplation and action and then the different strategies of production of knowledge, characteristic of each of these cognitive activities, are analysed: myth, philosophy, science and dialect with respect to contemplation; seeing, looking, observing, experimenting and simulating with respect to contemplation; and spontaneous, reflexive, technological and comunicative action with respect to practical action. Finally, it is intended, in addition to deepening the essential interrelation between the different cognitive processes, to not exclude any of the aforementioned strategies and their use in function of the singular necessities in the process of the production of Pedagogical knowledge

Construcción dialógica de la personalidad moral

    No full text
