Nonlinear-optical Negative-index Metamaterials: Extraordinary Properties and Applications
The principles of nanoengineering of metamaterials which support optical electromagnetic and elastic
waves with negative group velocity are described. Extraordinary properties of nonlinear-optical energy
transfer between contra-propagating short pulses of electromagnetic and elastic waves are investigated
and prospective unique photonic devices are discussed.

Nonlinear waves in hyperbolic metamaterials: focus on solitons and rogues
The investigation of hyperbolic metamaterials, shows that metal layers that are part of graphene structures, and also types I and II layered systems, are readily controlled. Since graphene is a nicely conducting sheet it can be easily managed. The literature only eveals a, limited, systematic, approach to the onset of nonlinearity, especially for the methodology based around the famous nonlinear Schrödinger equation [NLSE]. This presentation reveals nonlinear outcomes involving solitons sustained by the popular, and more straightforward to fabricate, type II hyperbolic metamaterials. The NLSE for type II metatamaterials is developed and nonlinear, non-stationary diffraction and dispersion in such important, and active, planar hyperbolic metamaterials is developed. For rogue waves in metamaterials only a few recent numerical studies exist. The basic model assumes a uniform background to which is added a time-evolving perturbation in order to witness the growth of nonlinear waves out of nowhere. This is discussed here using a new NLSE appropriate to hyperbolic metamaterials that would normally produce temporal solitons. The main conclusion is that new pathways for rogue waves can emerge in the form of Peregrine solitons (and near-Peregrines) within a nonlinear hyperbolic metamaterial, based upon double negative guidelines, and where, potentially, magnetooptic control could be practically exerted
Long-range attraction between particles in dusty plasma and partial surface tension of dusty phase boundary
Effective potential of a charged dusty particle moving in homogeneous plasma
has a negative part that provides attraction between similarly charged dusty
particles. A depth of this potential well is great enough to ensure both
stability of crystal structure of dusty plasma and sizable value of surface
tension of a boundary surface of dusty region. The latter depends on the
orientation of the surface relative to the counter-ion flow, namely, it is
maximal and positive for the surface normal to the flow and minimal and
negative for the surface along the flow. For the most cases of dusty plasma in
a gas discharge, a value of the first of them is more than sufficient to ensure
stability of lenticular dusty phase void oriented across the counter-ion flow.Comment: LATEX, REVTEX4, 7 pages, 6 figure
Measurement of and Structure Functions in Low Region with the IHEP-JINR Neutrino Detector
The isoscalar structure functions and are measured as functions

Determination of the high-twist contribution to the structure function
We extract the high-twist contribution to the neutrino-nucleon structure
function from the analysis of the data collected by
the IHEP-JINR Neutrino Detector in the runs with the focused neutrino beams at
the IHEP 70 GeV proton synchrotron. The analysis is performed within the
infrared renormalon (IRR) model of high twists in order to extract the
normalization parameter of the model. From the NLO QCD fit to our data we
obtained the value of the IRR model normalization parameter
. We
also obtained from a similar fit to the CCFR data. The average of both results is

Search for the exotic resonance in the NOMAD experiment
A search for exotic Theta baryon via Theta -> proton +Ks decay mode in the
NOMAD muon neutrino DIS data is reported. The special background generation
procedure was developed. The proton identification criteria are tuned to
maximize the sensitivity to the Theta signal as a function of xF which allows
to study the Theta production mechanism. We do not observe any evidence for the
Theta state in the NOMAD data. We provide an upper limit on Theta production
rate at 90% CL as 2.13 per 1000 of neutrino interactions.Comment: Accepted to European Physics Journal
Status of NSLS-II booster
The National Synchrotron Light Source II is a third generation light source under construction at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The project includes a highly optimized 3 GeV electron storage ring, linac pre-injector and full-energy booster-synchrotron. Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics builds booster for NSLS-II. The booster should accelerate the electron beam continuously and reliably from minimal 170 MeV injection energy to maximal energy of 3.15 GeV and average beam current of 20 mA. The booster shall be capable of multi-bunch and single bunch operation. This paper summarizes the status of NSLS-II booster.Национальный источник синхротронного излучения II является синхротроном третьего поколения, созданным в Брукхевенской национальной лаборатории. Reconstruction of Martensitic Nucleation Process from Morphological Attributes
Within the framework of the concepts of heterogeneous nucleation and wave growth of martensite the refinement of a technique of account of wave normals Nw to expected habits planes are carried out. The technique allows to connect orientations of Nw with definite areas of nucleation of crystals in an elastic field of defects. The specific results are presented for system Cu-Zn. As separate rectilinear dislocations with lines [11-1] and dislocation loops basic elements of which are pieces of these lines are considered here as probable centers of nucleation. It is shown, that the spectrum of Nw can be coordinated with experimentally observable space distribution of normals Ne in a vicinity of a pole [2 11 12]. The similar coordination opens additional opportunities to reconstruct a stage of martensite nucleation from morphological attributes and to transform a distribution of habits in the informative parameter
Electrical and photovoltaic properties of layered composite films of covalently bonded graphene and single-walled carbon nanotubes
In this paper, we present the results of a computational study of the electrical and photovoltaic properties of a perspective composite material; that is, layered composite films of covalently bonded graphene and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). The purpose of the study is to identify the topological patterns in controlling the electrical and photovoltaic properties of mono-and bilayer graphene/CNT composite films with a covalent bonding of a nanotube and graphene sheet, using in silico methods. This in silico study was carried out for the super-cells of mono-and bilayer graphene/CNT composite films with the CNTs (10,0) and (12,0) at distances between the nanotubes of 10 and 12 hexagons. This found that the type of conductivity of the nanotubes does not fundamentally affect the patterns of current flow in the graphene/CNT composite films. This control of the diameter of the nanotubes and the distance between them allows us to control the profile of the absorption spectrum of the electromagnetic waves in the range of 20-2000 nm. The control of the distance between the SWCNTs allows one to control the absorption intensity without a significant peak shift. This revealed that there is no obvious dependence of the integrated photocurrent on the distance between the nanotubes, and the photocurrent varies between 3%-4%. © 2020 by the authors
