Mobile learning scenarios in language teaching: perceptions of vocational and professional education students
Mobile devices play a significant role in society, in general, and a very limited one at the different levels of education. Smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices allows learning to occur anywhere, (and at) anytime. These powerful technological devices can enhance the teaching and learning processes by helping to promote collaborative and individual learning and broadening the boundaries of the classroom to different contexts of learning. Many students have mobile devices and their applications can provide access to learning outside the classroom, for greater flexibility and more dynamic learning. In this sense, the articulation of technological and methodological efforts allowed us to create learning scenarios supported by the devices that students take to the classroom (BYOD), and use them to motivate and involve students in meaningful learning. These devices offer the advantage of integrating various technologies in the curricular contents, such as in foreign and mother language courses, representing a set of possibilities of ubiquity that can have great impact on the learning process. Thus, we developed strategies with vocational and educational students’ methodologies, such as augmented reality, project-based learning, game-based learning, collaborative learning and gamification. In this text, we present the results of two mobile learning studies in teaching French as a foreign language (to 18-23 year-old-students) and Portuguese language, as a mother tongue (to 15-19 year-old-students), in vocational education, implemented as a mediation tool in education to promote the construction of learning and development of significant skills of collaborative work. From the data collection, through a questionnaire, with open and closed questions, we highlight the favorable perception of the students to the integration of mobile devices in learning, and the recognition of the benefits of the teaching strategies used throughout the year, in the increase of curricular learning.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

We present a framework to support mobile technologies integration in teaching and learning contexts, based on Constructivism, Activity Theory and ARCS Model, the specificities of its component and a reflection on its use in an educational context. We suggest examples for their use inside and outside the classroom. Finally, we present an example that shows how we use mobile learning in teaching and learning
Studying the Portuguese language and Portuguese literature is an invitation to students to get to know and appreciate their mother language. We expect them to master the different forms of expression, remember conceptual content, and be competent in different contexts. In order to do this we think there is a need to integrate active teaching and learning methodologies that can help develop curriculum and core competences. The integration of digital tools into the educational process, such as the mobile devices that students bring to the classroom, helps us to achieve educational goals and create innovative and motivational curriculum products and resources. In this text we share some pedagogical experiences carried out with students attending Vocational courses and developed to make the Portuguese classes engaging, memorable and challenging moments of learning. Pedagogical potentialities of podcasts in learning : reactions from K-12 to university students in Portugal
This paper stresses the use of podcasts in learning, describing different types of podcasts in learning situations, namely knowledge content, instructions, and feedback to students’ assignments. Four studies are described involving students from 9th grade, 11th grade, undergraduates and graduates students. Each study deals with a different type of podcasts and we analysed learners’ acceptance or rejection. The students recognized the pedagogical value of podcasts in learning. The 9th grade students enjoyed the activity of creating their own podcasts and recognized its impact in their learning. The 11th grade students preferred to listen to podcasts than reading the content in a book. Most of the undergraduate students liked to listen to the instructions, but a few would prefer to get them in a written text, as they are used to read. The graduate students enjoyed listening to feedback to their assignments, mentioning that it was unusual, but it kept their interest and attention, and it gave a sensation of proximity to the teacher.
pedagógico a rentabilizar.
This research study was conducted in the academic year 2008/2009, in education
learning contexts supported by mobile technologies owned by students, particularly the mobile
phone. An exploratory study was conducted with a multiple cases (four), but with only one unit
of analysis. Sixty-eight secondary students attending both day and night regular and vocational
courses in two urban schools, being one a state school and the other semi-private, participated
in this study. The techniques used for data collection were inquiry and observation. The data
revealed students have greater satisfaction when they are accomplishing the tasks because the
process of teaching and learning becomes more appealing, and there is the recognition of the
educational potential of mobile devices to support student’s studying practices. This study is a

O questionário I teve como
As entrevistas
desenvolvimento do estudo. O focus group possibilitou recolher informações complementares do
Mobile devices, such as mobile phone, PDA, Pocket PC or Tablet PC, have been used as
tools for learning. The emergence of new educational scenarios has led us to conduct this research
to understand the challenges and opportunities of integrating mobile phone, into teaching and
learning.
It was proposed a framework based on constructivist approaches, in Activity Theory and
ARCS Model, which underlies the study. The study analysed how students appropriated mobile
phones as a learning tool, assessed the mobile phone as a mediation tool in learning activities and
discussed the potentials and limitations of their integration in teaching and learning process. To
achieve these objectives we have established a variety of curricular activities mediated by students'
mobile phones and developed in the Portuguese and French school subjects.
It is a qualitative research with multiple study cases (four), but with one unit of analysis only.
Sixty-eight students from two urbans schools, one a State secondary school and the other a semiprivate
vocational school, attended this study. This is an exploratory study, due to the scarcity of
studies in the area, because it is the integration of new technology, such as the mobile phone, into
teaching. The data collection techniques used were inquiry and observation. We developed and
validated four questionnaires and two guidelines (one for individual interviews and the other for a
focus group). The first questionnaire aimed to characterise the participants, the second
questionnaire collected students’ reactions to the use of podcasts for content review and
improvement of reading and pronunciation in French, the third questionnaire analysed students’
reactions to SMS activities and the fourth questionnaire studied students’ opinions about using the
mobile phone as a learning tool, both inside and outside the classroom. Individual interviews allowed
to get participants' feedback concerning the use of the mobile phone as a tool for learning and
understanding the interaction and communication established during the study development. The
focus group allowed to collect additional information from mobile phone use as a mediation tool.
The data analysis showed that despite the novelty of integrating mobile devices as tools to
support learning activities, the students accepted to use their own mobile phones, which naturally
incorporated it in their study practices, exploring several features on different curricular activities,
both inside and outside the classroom, individually and collaboratively. The mobile phone used as a
mediating tool for learning, allowed to ask questions, learn at a when it is most convenient, be in
permanent contact with the curriculum contents, increased students’ motivation for the school subject and promoted the improvement of foreign language pronunciation. The data also showed the
students’ great satisfaction in performing tasks that made the process of learning and teaching more
attractive, and they recognized the educational potential of mobile phone to support the school
study.
This research is a contribution towards the integration of mobile devices into education and an alert
about the new learning opportunities that are offered by mobile learning
Diante disso, implementamos
This paper analyzes the implementation of the “Agentes Digitais” Project, which articulates
curricular innovation and an entrepreneurial approach through Information and Communication Digital
Technologies (ICT). We describe the analysis of research, presenting the results of the use of a new
approach for the development of entrepreneurial skills, with 27 Portuguese students of Carlos Amarante
High School. From the analysis of the adequacy of activities and from a questionnaire, we diagnosed the
following points: i. the content adaption to the use of Web 2.0 tools, ii. if the activities proposed could
created some opportunities for the development of entrepreneurial activities. We implemented new
strategies with digital resources suitable to the student’s activities. This action had the collaboration of the
classroom teacher and the inclusion of technological tools that were already part of the student’s life. In
this sense, the teaching resource corresponds to the innovative proposal on digital entrepreneurship and
emphasizes the need for the expansion of activities aimed to develop skills at entrepreneurship and the
integration of educational technologies in the Portuguese educational system, as this is one aspect of the
