Data Acquisition in the EUDET Project
The goal of the EUDET project is the development and construction of
infrastructure to permit detector R&D for the International Linear Collider
(ILC) with larger scale prototypes. It encompasses major detector components:
the vertex detector, the tracker and the calorimeters. We describe here the
status and plans of the project with emphasis on issues related to data
acquisition for future test beam experiments.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, to appear in the proceedings of Linear Collider

Modelling and Measurement of Charge Transfer in Multiple GEM Structures
Measurements and numerical simulations on the charge transfer in Gas Electron
Multiplier (GEM) foils are presented and their implications for the usage of
GEM foils in Time Projection Chambers are discussed. A small test chamber has
been constructed and operated with up to three GEM foils. The charge transfer
parameters derived from the electrical currents monitored during the
irradiation with an Fe-55 source are compared with numerical simulations. The
performance in magnetic fields up to 2 T is also investigated.Comment: 21 pages, 16 figures, submitted to NIM-
Charge Transfer and Charge Broadening of GEM Structures in High Magnetic Fields
We report on measurements of charge transfer in GEM structures in high
magnetic fields. These were performed in the framework of the R&D work for a
Time Projection Chamber at a future Linear Collider. A small test chamber has
been installed into the aperture of a superconducting magnet with the GEM
structures mounted perpendicular to the B field direction. The charge transfer
is derived from the electrical currents monitored during irradiation with an
Fe source. No severe loss of primary ionisation charge is observed,
but an improved ion feedback suppression is achieved for high magnetic fields.
Additionally, the width of the charge cloud released by individual Fe
photons is measured using a finely segmented strip readout after the triple GEM
structure. Charge widths between 0.3 and 0.5 mm RMS are observed, which
originate from the charge broadening inside the GEM readout. This charge
broadening is only partly suppressed at high magnetic fields.Comment: 11 pages, 9 figure
Precedence-constrained scheduling problems parameterized by partial order width
Negatively answering a question posed by Mnich and Wiese (Math. Program.
154(1-2):533-562), we show that P2|prec,|, the
problem of finding a non-preemptive minimum-makespan schedule for
precedence-constrained jobs of lengths 1 and 2 on two parallel identical
machines, is W[2]-hard parameterized by the width of the partial order giving
the precedence constraints. To this end, we show that Shuffle Product, the
problem of deciding whether a given word can be obtained by interleaving the
letters of other given words, is W[2]-hard parameterized by , thus
additionally answering a question posed by Rizzi and Vialette (CSR 2013).
Finally, refining a geometric algorithm due to Servakh (Diskretn. Anal. Issled.
Oper. 7(1):75-82), we show that the more general Resource-Constrained Project
Scheduling problem is fixed-parameter tractable parameterized by the partial
order width combined with the maximum allowed difference between the earliest
possible and factual starting time of a job.Comment: 14 pages plus appendi
Physics at the e+ e- Linear Collider
A comprehensive review of physics at an e+e- Linear Collider in the energy
range of sqrt{s}=92 GeV--3 TeV is presented in view of recent and expected LHC
results, experiments from low energy as well as astroparticle physics. The
report focuses in particular on Higgs boson, Top quark and electroweak
precision physics, but also discusses several models of beyond the Standard
Model physics such as Supersymmetry, little Higgs models and extra gauge
bosons. The connection to cosmology has been analyzed as well.Comment: 179 pages, plots and references updated, version to be published at

Distinguishing among Technicolor/Warped Scenarios in Dileptons
Models of dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking usually include new spin-1
resonances, whose couplings and masses have to satisfy electroweak precision
tests. We propose to use dilepton searches to probe the underlying structure
responsible for satisfying these. Using the invariant mass spectrum and charge
asymmetry, we can determine the number, parity, and isospin of these
resonances. We pick three models of strong/warped symmetry breaking, and show
that each model produces specific features that reflect this underlying
structure of electroweak symmetry breaking and cancellations.Comment: Added missing referenc
Governance of the international linear collider project
PoS(ICHEP 2010)516 - http://pos.sissa.itInternational audienceGovernance models for the International Linear Collider Project are examined in the light of experience from similar international projects around the world. Recommendations for one path which could be followed to realise the ILC successfully are outlined
Search for Branons at LEP
We search, in the context of extra-dimension scenarios, for the possible
existence of brane fluctuations, called branons. Events with a single photon or
a single Z-boson and missing energy and momentum collected with the L3 detector
in e^+ e^- collisions at centre-of-mass energies sqrt{s}=189-209$ GeV are
analysed. No excess over the Standard Model expectations is found and a lower
limit at 95% confidence level of 103 GeV is derived for the mass of branons,
for a scenario with small brane tensions. Alternatively, under the assumption
of a light branon, brane tensions below 180 GeV are excluded
Study of Spin and Decay-Plane Correlations of W Bosons in the e+e- -> W+W- Process at LEP
Data collected at LEP at centre-of-mass energies \sqrt(s) = 189 - 209 GeV are
used to study correlations of the spin of W bosons using e+e- -> W+W- -> lnqq~
events. Spin correlations are favoured by data, and found to agree with the
Standard Model predictions. In addition, correlations between the W-boson decay
planes are studied in e+e- -> W+W- -> lnqq~ and e+e- -> W+W- -> qq~qq~ events.
Decay-plane correlations, consistent with zero and with the Standard Model
predictions, are measured
