[EN] Although they usually signed under one common name, the three members of the Candilis-Josic-Woods team also developed works on an individual basis. This occurred in the Citè artisanale in Sèvres designed by Alexis Josic between 1961 and 1965. Conceived just one year prior to the Free University of Berlin, in parallel to the competition for the reconstruction of Frankfurt and while Woods published his theory of the ‘web’ concept in Le Carré Bleu, this proposal was an important breakthrough in the use of geometric iterative patterns as a design method applied by the team and allowed for the determination of some themes which were characteristic of later works; all this, from a manifest formal simplicity. The definition of an open and evolving system, the search for a renewed spatial identity as an alternative to the canons of international style or the reinterpretation of the architectural framework from the point of view of creative negotiation with the user, lay the foundation for Josic’s ‘grid idea’, which also implies the synthesis of many of the ambitions of Team X. The aim of this article is therefore to contribute to a better understanding of the aesthetic, cultural and social meanings that modular growth mechanisms acquired in this specific context of the revision of the modern movement.[ES] Aunque solían firmar los proyectos bajo un nombre común, los tres miembros del equipo Candilis-Josic-Woods también desarrollaron trabajos de forma independiente. Martín Domínguez, G.; De Esteban Garbayo, J. [Abstract] This work contributes to improving the relevant information for the local participatory process, in a context of just energy transition. A proposal has been prepared for an objective estimate of the initial impact and the minimum socioeconomic compensation for the closure of a conventional coal-fired thermal power plant in the affected local entity. This has allowed (1) specifying and contextualizing the effects into which the initial impact of the closure can be divided, with the inclusion of the circular effect; (2) obtaining an indicator of the minimum compensation that would need to be set to neutralize this impact; and (3) establishing recommendations and conclusions based on the evidence obtained. This research was funded by MITECO Ministry (Government of Spain) and the As Pontes City Council.: 2019/C004/000030Concello das Pontes de García Rodríguez; 2019/C004/00003

Oil-in-Oil emulsions of stearic acid dispersed in silicone oil with enhanced energy storage capability for heat transfer fluids

Non-aqueous phase change emulsions are very unknown and promising multifunctional fluids consisting of phase change materials dispersed in carrier fluids, both being oily phases. The oil-in-oil phase change emulsions allow the possibility of using the same medium for latent heat storage and transport under more extreme pressure and temperature conditions. In this paper, stable emulsions composed of stearic acid with a melting point of 68–71 °C dispersed in silicone oil have been developed. Stearic acid-in-silicone oil emulsion samples with different phase concentrations were evaluated by analysing their thermophysical properties, viscous and viscoelastic behaviour and microstructure. Emulsion properties below the melting point of the phase change material were greatly influenced by the concentration of the disperse phase. Thus, as the temperature lowered, a well-developed three-dimensional network of stearic acid crystalline structures interconnected with each other was formed. Furthermore, emulsion physicochemical and thermal stabilities were examined and proved under several mechanical–thermal cycles, withstanding more than 100 cycles in the calorimeter. The results indicate that stearic acid-in-silicone oil emulsions are an attractive candidate for energy storage applications with a phase change enthalpy in emulsions with the 10 wt% of phase change material of 22.32 J/g.Non-aqueous phase change emulsions are very unknown and promising multifunctional fluids consisting of phase change materials dispersed in carrier fluids, both being oily phases. Multi-robot task allocation problem with multiple nonlinear criteria using branch and bound and genetic algorithms

    Get PDF
The paper proposes the formulation of a single-task robot (ST), single-robot task (SR), time-extended assignment (TA), multi-robot task allocation (MRTA) problem with multiple, nonlinear criteria using discrete variables that drastically reduce the computation burden. Obtaining an allocation is addressed by a Branch and Bound (B&B) algorithm in low scale problems and by a genetic algorithm (GA) specifically developed for the proposed formulation in larger scale problems. The GA crossover and mutation strategies design ensure that the descendant allocations of each generation will maintain a certain level of feasibility, reducing greatly the range of possible descendants, and accelerating their convergence to a sub-optimal allocation. The proposed MRTA algorithms are simulated and analyzed in the context of a thermosolar power plant, for which the spatially distributed Direct Normal Irradiance (DNI) is estimated using a heterogeneous fleet composed of both aerial and ground unmanned vehicles. Three optimization criteria are simultaneously considered: distance traveled, time required to complete the task and energetic feasibility. Even though this paper uses a thermosolar power plant as a case study, the proposed algorithms can be applied to any MRTA problem that uses a multi-criteria and nonlinear cost function in an equivalent way. The performance and response of the proposed algorithms are compared for four different scenarios. The results show that the B&B algorithm can find the global optimal solution in a reasonable time for a case with four robots and six tasks. For larger problems, the genetic algorithm approaches the global optimal solution in much less computation time. Moreover, the trade-off between computation time and accuracy can be easily carried out by tuning the parameters of the genetic algorithm according to the available computational power.Unión Europea 789051Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades IJC2018-035395-

    Home-city interactions in suburban Tokyo

    Get PDF
In 2002, Ryue Nishizawa received the commission to build a house in the special ward of Ōta, a traditional village swallowed by the expanding metropolis. The proposed scheme colonizes the plot with independent boxes and interlocking gardens, allowing the owner to rent part of the property while paying his mortgage. This design strategy, based on a radical fragmentation of the dwelling’s program and on the blurring of hierarchies, is closely linked to Tokyo’s urban context, firstly in socio-economic terms. It also confers a renewed role to the existing network of urban voids from the neighborhood; it invites to a reconsideration of the idea of limit and it challenges traditional spatial binaries like exterior/interior or public/private. Ultimately, this paper aims to show how Moriyama House acts as an active component of the ever-changing city fabric around it, while questioning traditional bonds between home and city in the framework of contemporary culture

A key factor in the adoption of mobile commerce is the compatibility that the consumer perceives with his/her life. Given that the research on compatibility with mobile purchases made so far treats it as an antecedent of adoption, this pioneer research studies two intrinsic and two extrinsic determinants. The model was tested using PLS with information from 583 Mexican mobile buyers. Our results show a positive effect of innovativeness, involvement and perceived entertainment on compatibility. On the contrary, self-efficacy does not seem to influence the perception of compatibility of mobile commerce with consumer life. This work has important implications for the practice of professionals dedicated to mobile commerce
