OWA-based aggregation operations in multi-expert MCDM model
This paper presents an analysis of multi-expert multi-criteria decision making (ME-MCDM) model based on the ordered weighted averaging (OWA) operators. Two methods of modeling the majority opinion are studied as to aggregate the experts' judgments, in which based on the induced OWA operators. Then, an overview of OWA with the inclusion of different degrees of importance is provided for aggregating the criteria. An alternative OWA operator with a new weighting method is proposed which termed as alternative OWAWA (AOWAWA) operator. Some extensions of ME-MCDM model with respect to two-stage aggregation processes are developed based on the classical and alternative schemes. A comparison of results of different decision schemes then is conducted. Moreover, with respect to the alternative scheme, a further comparison is given for different techniques in integrating the degrees of importance. A numerical example in the selection of investment strategy is used as to exemplify the model and for the analysis purpose
Weighted‐selective aggregated majority‐OWA operator and its application in linguistic group decision making
This paper focuses on the aggregation operations in the group decision-making model based on the concept of majority opinion. The weighted-selective aggregated majority-OWA (WSAM-OWA) operator is proposed as an extension of the SAM-OWA operator, where the reliability of information sources is considered in the formulation. The WSAM-OWA operator is generalized to the quanti- fied WSAM-OWA operator by including the concept of linguistic quantifier, mainly for the group fusion strategy. The QWSAM-IOWA operator, with an ordering step, is introduced to the individual fusion strategy. The proposed aggregation operators are then implemented for the case of alternative scheme of heterogeneous group decision analysis. The heterogeneous group includes the consensus of experts with respect to each specific criterion. The exhaustive multicriteria group decision-making model under the linguistic domain, which consists of two-stage aggregation processes, is developed in order to fuse the experts' judgments and to aggregate the criteria. The model provides greater flexibility when analyzing the decision alternatives with a tolerance that considers the majority of experts and the attitudinal character of experts. A selection of investment problem is given to demonstrate the applicability of the developed model
Resolution of the clinical features of tyrosinemia following orthotopic liver transplantation for hepatoma
The clinical history before transplantation and subsequent clinical and biochemical course of 3 children and one adult with hereditary tyrosinemia treated by orthotopic hepatic transplantation is described. All four patients are now free of their previous dietary restrictions and appear to be cured of both their metabolic disease and their hepatic neoplasm. © 1986 Elsevier Science Publishers B.V. Combined cognitive–behavioural and mindfulness programme for people living with dystonia : a proof-of-concept study
Objectives To design and test the delivery of an intervention targeting the non-motor symptoms of dystonia and pilot key health and well-being questionnaires in this population.
Design A proof-of-concept study to test the delivery, acceptability, relevance, structure and content for a 3-day group residential programme for the management of dystonia.
Setting Participants were recruited from a single botulinum toxin clinic. The intervention was delivered in the community.
Participants 14 participants consented to take part (2 withdrew prior to the starting of intervention). The average age was 60 years (range 44–77), 8 of whom were female. After drop-out, 9 participants completed the 3-day programme.
Intervention A 3-day group residential programme.
Primary and secondary outcome measures Process evaluation and interviews were carried out before and after the intervention to explore participant's views and expectations, as well as experiences of the intervention. Select questionnaires were completed at baseline, 1-month and 3-month follow-up.
Results Although participants were not sure what to expect from the programme, they found it informative and for many this together with being in a group with other people with dystonia legitimised their condition. Mindfulness was accepted and adopted as a coping strategy. This was reflected in the 1-month follow-up.
Conclusions We successfully delivered a 3-day residential programme to help those living with dystonia manage their condition. Further improvements are suggested. The quantitative outcome measures were acceptable to this group of patients with dystonia
Dairy science and health in the tropics: challenges and opportunities for the next decades
EditorialIn the next two decades, the world population will increase significantly; the majority in the developing countries located in the
tropics of Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. To feed such a population, it is necessary to increase the availability of
food, particularly high-value animal protein foods produced locally, namely meat and dairy products. Dairy production in tropical
regions has a lot of growth potential, but also poses a series of problems, particularly as dairy production systems were developed
in temperate countries and in most cases are difficult to implement in the tropics. Drawbacks include hot weather and heat stress,
the lack of availability of adequate feeds, poor infrastructure, and cold chain and the competition with cheap imports from
temperate countries. This position paper reviews the major drawbacks in dairy production for the five major dairy species: cattle,
water buffalo, sheep, goat, and camel, as well as the future trends in research and development. It also concerns the major trends
in reproduction and production systems and health issues as well as environmental concerns, particularly those related to
greenhouse gas emissions. Tropical Animal Health and Production now launches a topical collection on Tropical Dairy
Science. We aim to publish interesting and significant papers in tropical dairy science. On behalf of the editorial board of the
Tropical Animal Health and Production, we would like to invite all authors working in this field to submit their works on this

Macronutrient chloride nutrition modulates psii biochemistry of plants

Maximal Cl– demand occurs during early vegetative growth, when Cl– limitation determines a strong biomass reduction, a deficiency that could not be compensated by additional NO3– supply. This phenotype was associated with changes in PSII biochemistry, including a reduction of the Electron Transport Rate (ETR).

Jak3, STAT3, and STAT5 inhibit expression of miR-22, a novel tumor suppressor microRNA, in cutaneous T-Cell lymphoma
Aberrant activation of Janus kinase-3 (Jak3) and its key down-stream effectors, Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription-3 (STAT3) and STAT5, is a key feature of malignant transformation in cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL). However, it remains only partially understood how Jak3/STAT activation promotes lymphomagenesis. Recently, non-coding microRNAs (miRNAs) have been implicated in the pathogenesis of this malignancy. Here, we show that (i) malignant T cells display a decreased expression of a tumor suppressor miRNA, miR-22, when compared to non-malignant T cells, (ii) STAT5 binds the promoter of the miR-22 host gene, and (iii) inhibition of Jak3, STAT3, and STAT5 triggers increased expression of pri-miR-22 and miR-22. Curcumin, a nutrient with anti-Jak3 activity and histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi) also trigger increased expression of pri-miR-22 and miR-22. Transfection of malignant T cells with recombinant miR-22 inhibits the expression of validated miR-22 targets including NCoA1, a transcriptional co-activator in others cancers, as well as HDAC6, MAX, MYCBP, PTEN, and CDK2, which have all been implicated in CTCL pathogenesis. In conclusion, we provide the first evidence that de-regulated Jak3/STAT3/STAT5 signalling in CTCL cells represses the expression of the gene encoding miR-22, a novel tumor suppressor miRNA
