Variation in the distribution of Corbicula species (Mollusca: Bivalvia: Corbiculidae) after 25 years of its introduction in the Río de la Plata, Argentina
In 1981, Corbicula fluminea (Müller, 1774) and C. largillierti (Philippi, 1844) were recorded at the Río de la Plata River. During the 1980?s, C. largillierti was found on a continuous fringe in the shore of that river, while C. fluminea was only found North of Buenos Aires? harbor. Ten years later, C. fluminea spread to Punta Indio, while C. largillierti remained restricted to tributary streams. The density and size frequency distribution of both species were compared with previous data from samples performed in the same area in 1985?1989. The aim of this research was to determine whether the densities of both species decreased; whether C. fluminea is still more abundant than C. largillierti; and whether the size frequency distributions indicate different population structures from those observed in the end of the 1980?s. Nine localities from the river shore were sampled, and each individual was identified and measured. The size of C. fluminea varied between 2 and 39 mm, showing the highest frequency of individuals between 20 and 25 mm; furthermore the density decreased 90% in 2015/2016. No speci-mens of C. largillierti were found. In conclusion, the populations of Corbicula inhabiting the Río de la Plata River are retracting.Fil: Reshaid, Yamila Veronica. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar los antecedentes de los usos y gratificaciones de Facebook y sus consecuencias actitudinales y comportamentales. El modelo de esta investigación presenta dos tipos de antecedentes de los usos y gratificaciones: vinculados a la personalidad y vinculados a la interacción individuo-tecnología 2.0. Entre las consecuencias de los usos y gratificaciones se analiza la predisposición a interactuar con la información, la actitud hacia un destino y la intención de visitarlo. La aplicación de este trabajo al contento específico de Facebook sobre destinos turísticos, constituye una aportación al área de marketing turístico

The receptor-like kinase ERECTA contributes to the shade-avoidance syndrome in a background-dependent manner
Background and Aims Plants growing at high densities perceive a decrease in the red to far-red (R/FR) ratio of incoming light. These changes in light quality trigger a suite of responses collectively known as the shade-avoidance syndrome (SAS) including hypocotyl and stem elongation, inhibition of branching and acceleration of flowering.
Methods Quantitative trait loci (QTLs) were mapped for hypocotyl length to end-of-day far-red (EOD), a simulated shade-avoidance response, in recombinant inbred line (RIL) populations of Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings, derived from Landsberg erecta (Ler) and three accessions (Columbia, Col; Nossen, No-0; and Cape Verde Islands, Cvi-0).
Key Results Five loci were identified as being responsible for the EOD response, with a positive contribution of Ler alleles on the phenotype independently of the RIL population. Quantitative complementation analysis and transgenic lines showed that PHYB is the candidate gene for EODRATIO5 in the Ler × Cvi-0 RIL population, but not for two co-localized QTLs, EODRATIO1 and EODRATIO2 mapped in the Ler × No-0 and Ler × Col RIL populations, respectively. The ERECTA gene was also implicated in the SAS in a background-dependent manner. For hypocotyl length EOD response, a positive contribution of erecta alleles was found in Col and Van-0, but not in Ler, Cvi-0, Hir-1 or Ws. Furthermore, pleiotropic effects of ERECTA in the EOD response were also detected for petiole and lamina elongation, hyponastic growth, and flowering time.
Conclusions The results show that the analysis of multiple mapping populations leads to a better understanding of the SAS genetic architecture. Moreover, the background- and trait-dependent contribution of ERECTA in the SAS suggest that its function in shaded natural environments may be relevant for some populations in different phases of plant development. It is proposed that ERECTA is involved in canalization processes buffering the genetic variation of the SAS against environmental light fluctuations.Fil: Kasulin, Luciana. Corticosteroid therapy and uveitis
Corticosteroids have been used in clinical practice since 1949, and their potential beneficial effects in Ophthalmology, including inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, are now a fact. Nowadays, these steroids are used, systemically or locally, to treat a constellation of eye diseases. This article considers the most used corticosteroids in Ophthalmology, their indications, their side effects, and routes of administration.Os corticosteróides têm sido utilizados na prática clínica desde 1949, e seus efeitos benéficos na oftalmologia, principalmente nas doenças inflamatórias e autoimunes, é indiscutível. Survival after Laparoscopic versus Abdominal Radical Hysterectomy in Early Cervical Cancer: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Previous studies have reported the safety of laparoscopic radical hysterectomy for treatment of
early cervical cancer, as option to laparotomy. This study aims to compare overall survival between laparoscopic
versus abdominal radical hysterectomy for early cervical cancer. Methods: A single-center randomized controlled
trial enrolled 30 patients with clinically staged IA2 cervical cancer and lymphovascular invasion, IB and IIA, who
underwent laparoscopic radical hysterectomy (16) or abdominal radical hysterectomy (14). Result: The mean overall
survival time was 74.74 months (CI 95%: 54.15-95.33) for LRH 91.67 months (CI 95%: 74.97-108.37) for ARH (logrank test = 0.30). The mean disease-free survival time was 81.07 months (CI 95%: 60.95-101.19) for LRH and 95.82
months (CI 95%: 80.18-111.47) for ARH (log-rank test = 0.371). The overall survival hazard ratio was 2.05 (CI 95%:
0.51-8.24), and the disease-free hazard ratio was 2.13 (CI 95%: 0.39-11.7). Conclusion: Our study suggests a nonsignificant trend of worse outcomes for LRH. In light of recent controversy and need for prospective studies, further
studies in different populations are required for definite conclusions and until then, patients should be aware of risks

Diffusion of single dye molecules in hydrated TiO 2 mesoporous films
Mesoporous oxide films are attractive frameworks in technological areas such as catalysis, sensing, environmental protection, and photovoltaics. Herein, we used fluorescence correlation spectroscopy to explore how the pore dimensions of hydrated TiO2 mesoporous calcined films modulate the molecular diffusion. Rhodamine B molecules in mesoporous films follow a Fickian process 2–3 orders slower compared to the probe in water. The mobility increases with the pore and neck radii reaching an approximately constant value for a neck radius >2.8 nm. However, the pore size does not control the dye diffusion at low ionic strength emphasizing the relevance of the probe interactions with the pore walls on dye mobility. In conclusion, our results show that the thermal conditioning of TiO2 mesoporous films provides an exceptional tool for controlling the pore and neck radii on the nanometer scale and has a major impact on molecular diffusion within the mesoporous network.Fil: Angiolini, Juan Francisco.
