High performance companies, according to the previous literature on organizational culture, are assumed to pocess the two cultural characteristics namely internal integration and external orientation. In our study, we employed the concepts of "employee empowerment" and "core values" as the variables representing internal integration, and "creating change" and "shared vision" representing external orientation, and then we analyzed their impact on firm performance. Data collected from 124 manufacturing firms in the Gebze region have been analysed to test the hypotheses. As a result of this study, the factors found to be increasing the firm performance were the two variables of external orientation

How Digital Banking Affects Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Turkey? An Empirical Investigation

    Get PDF
This paper investigates the impact of digital banking on greenhouse gas emissions in a case of developing economy, Turkey. Digital banking means more technological innovations in banking transactions. If banking transactions can be made in digital rather than physical environments, environmental effects are expected. We assume the environmental effect is positive, so the examination of this relationship is quite important. Technological innovations mean an increase in cost of digital banking transactions in the short run but in the long run this cost-increased effect is expected to turn opposite by an increase of active users in digital banking. We analyse the long-run relationship for the period between 2011/1 and 2019/4 by employing the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model. The results show that the increase in digital banking transactions have a positive and statistically significant effect on greenhouse gas emissions in Turkey. The findings reveal the positive trend in increasing transactions in digital banking in Turkey

Nutritional status and severity of coronary artery disease

Objective The aim of this study is to evaluate the association between Nutritional Risk Index (NRI), a simple tool to assess nutritional status, and coronary artery disease severity and complexity in patients undergoing coronary angiography. Methods This study is a retrospective analysis of 822 patients undergoing coronary angiography. Patients with previous revascularization were excluded. Gensini and SYNTAX scores were calculated according to the angiographic images to determine atherosclerosis severity. NRI was calculated as follows: NRI = [15.19 × serum albumin (g/dl)] + [41.7 × (body weight/ideal body weight)]. In patients ≥65 years of age, Geriatric NRI (GNRI) was used instead of NRI. GNRI was calculated as follows: GNRI = [14.89 × serum albumin (g/dl)] + [41.7 × (body weight/ideal body weight)]. Patients were then divided into three groups as previously reported: NRI < 92, NRI 92–98 and NRI > 98. Gensini and SYNTAX scores were compared between three groups. Results The mean age of study population was 61.9 ± 11.1 years. NRI 98 was measured in 212, 321 and 289 patients, respectively. There was no difference regarding to sex, BMI, smoking, hypertension and diabetes mellitus between three groups. Patients with NRI < 92 had the highest mean Gensini score than the patients with NRI 92–98 and NRI > 98 (38.0 ± 40.6 vs. 31.17 ± 42.4 vs. 25.8 ± 38.4, P = 0.005). Also patients with NRI < 92 had the highest mean SYNTAX score than the patients with NRI 92–98 and NRI > 98 (11.8 ± 12.9 vs. 9.3 ± 12.4 vs. 7.7 ± 11.8, P = 0.001). Also, Gensini score of ≥20 and high SYNTAX score of ≥33 were associated with lower NRI (P < 0.001 and P < 0.001, respectively). Conclusion In our study, nutritional status evaluated by the NRI was associated with more extensive and complex coronary atherosclerosis in patients undergoing coronary angiography

Case Report Pulmonary Hyalinizing Granuloma Mimicking Metastatic Lung Cancer

Pulmonary hyalinizing granuloma is a very rare benign condition, which usually manifests as solitary and sometimes as multiple pulmonary nodules. Deposition of immune complexes in the lung parenchyma due to hypersensitivity reactions is implicated in the etiology of pulmonary hyalinizing granuloma. A 59-year-old female patient who presented to our clinic with complaints of chest pain and cough had bilateral, multiple, and rounded lesions with regular margins suggesting metastatic lung disease. A transthoracic needle biopsy of the nodule was performed in the left pulmonary anterior segment. Biopsy showed no malignancy. Since no diagnosis was made by the biopsy, the patient underwent a video-assisted thoracic surgery. The wedge biopsy reported pulmonary hyalinizing granuloma. We aimed to present the diagnosis and treatment stages of our patient who was diagnosed with pulmonary hyalinizing granuloma in the light of literature review

A Bioinformatics-Based Approach for Designing Primer Sets in Determination of Meat Specificity

    Get PDF
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and its derivatives are one of the most widely used DNA-based methods in species determination studies in meat and meat products. Chromosomal or mitochondrial genes of the species can be targeted in PCR-based analyzes used in species detection studies. Many researchers are able to realize oligonucleotide differences between species through online alignment programs on mitochondrial DNA. Using chromosomal DNA would provide more concise results in quantification studies. However, determining the marker regions for genomic DNA is challenging due to the large size of the chromosomes. Bioinformatics approaches are available for selected applications. However, using those approaches requires intensive knowledge of computer science, molecular biology, and bioinformatics in addition to high computational power. In this study, a pipeline is presented that will provide a user-friendly approach to be adopted by facilities where contamination analyzes are routinely performed

Turner syndrome and associated problems in turkish children: A multicenter study

    Get PDF
Objective: Turner syndrome (TS) is a chromosomal disorder caused by complete or partial X chromosome monosomy that manifests various clinical features depending on the karyotype and on the genetic background of affected girls. This study aimed to systematically investigate the key clinical features of TS in relationship to karyotype in a large pediatric Turkish patient population. Methods: Our retrospective study included 842 karyotype-proven TS patients aged 0-18 years who were evaluated in 35 different centers in Turkey in the years 2013-2014. Results: The most common karyotype was 45,X (50.7%), followed by 45,X/46,XX (10.8%), 46,X,i(Xq) (10.1%) and 45,X/46,X,i(Xq) (9.5%). Mean age at diagnosis was 10.2±4.4 years. The most common presenting complaints were short stature and delayed puberty. Among patients diagnosed before age one year, the ratio of karyotype 45,X was significantly higher than that of other karyotype groups. Cardiac defects (bicuspid aortic valve, coarctation of the aorta and aortic stenosi) were the most common congenital anomalies, occurring in 25% of the TS cases. This was followed by urinary system anomalies (horseshoe kidney, double collector duct system and renal rotation) detected in 16.3%. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis was found in 11.1% of patients, gastrointestinal abnormalities in 8.9%, ear nose and throat problems in 22.6%, dermatologic problems in 21.8% and osteoporosis in 15.3%. Learning difficulties and/or psychosocial problems were encountered in 39.1%. Insulin resistance and impaired fasting glucose were detected in 3.4% and 2.2%, respectively. Dyslipidemia prevalence was 11.4%. Conclusion: This comprehensive study systematically evaluated the largest group of karyotype-proven TS girls to date. The karyotype distribution, congenital anomaly and comorbidity profile closely parallel that from other countries and support the need for close medical surveillance of these complex patients throughout their lifespan. © Journal of Clinical Research in Pediatric Endocrinology
