    Get PDF
This study aimed to investigate the perceptions of English and German language instructors regarding the opportunities and challenges for classroom management created by the hybrid education setting. The participant group included 21 instructors (17 EFL and 4 German). Participating instructors were employed at the School of Foreign Languages, and they were actively teaching in the hybrid education model developed by the school. A convenient sampling strategy was adopted while determining the participants. The study adopted a qualitative research design, and the data was collected through semi-structured interviews. The qualitative data was analyzed by following the content analysis procedures. The findings were presented through the emerging codes and themes. The results showed that the participating instructors faced varying challenges in terms of classroom management in the online classes. The study findings revealed a good deal of research evidence on the divergent training needs of instructors because the instructors found it hard to implement their traditional classroom management strategies in online classes. Planners and policymakers are provided insights for setting clear responsibilities and rules for learners during the online courses and providing in-service training opportunities for instructors as the new conditions call for innovative strategies to implement effective classroom management practices to contribute empirically, contextually, and policy

IDMoB: IoT Data Marketplace on Blockchain

Today, Internet of Things (IoT) devices are the powerhouse of data generation with their ever-increasing numbers and widespread penetration. Similarly, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) solutions are getting integrated to all kinds of services, making products significantly more "smarter". The centerpiece of these technologies is "data". IoT device vendors should be able keep up with the increased throughput and come up with new business models. On the other hand, AI/ML solutions will produce better results if training data is diverse and plentiful. In this paper, we propose a blockchain-based, decentralized and trustless data marketplace where IoT device vendors and AI/ML solution providers may interact and collaborate. By facilitating a transparent data exchange platform, access to consented data will be democratized and the variety of services targeting end-users will increase. Proposed data marketplace is implemented as a smart contract on Ethereum blockchain and Swarm is used as the distributed storage platform.Comment: Presented at Crypto Valley Conference on Blockchain Technology (CVCBT 2018), 20-22 June 2018 - published version may diffe

Main objective of this study is to reveal the variables which must be included within value chain analysis of tour organizations in cruise tourism as well as is to investigate value chain model. The study was being accomplished with qualitative research method and interview method was being used in data collection process. In this paper, Kuşadası cruise travel agencies in the district of Aydın was utilized as primary source. The contents of package tours which are prepared and served to the cruise ships anchored to the Kuşadası port were examined by the frame of value chain analysis. Hence, which of the stages in this process are stronger or weaker are attempted to be put forward. Analysis result reveals us which link is more valuable, which link needs to be supported. Eventually, various proposals are presented in order to make weak aspects more functional. With this study, it is expected that travel agencies which are operating in port towns will realize their internal administrative advantages and disadvantages and will review their operational policies in this direction

Relation of Trace Elements on Dental Health

    Get PDF
Trace elements (TEs) play an important role in human health. Toxic effects are caused by deficiency or excess of TEs. TEs have significant effects on both dental health and human health. It participates in important biological polyphosphate compound functions such as ATP, DNA, and RNA. TEs are present at different concentrations in the tooth structure. Changes in the density of some TEs affect tooth. The alteration of the density of some TEs makes the teeth more susceptible to caries. Others are protective against caries formation. Important TEs zinc (Zn), phosphorus (P), and magnesium (Mg) have important effects on dental health. Measuring the TE values through tissue sampling to identify and correct these effects has an important effect. In general, tissue samples such as blood, urine, teeth, nails, and hair are used in TE studies. Teeth are accepted as appropriate indication of TEs. As a result, TEs have significant effects on healthy tooth formation

CINet: A Learning Based Approach to Incremental Context Modeling in Robots

    Get PDF
There have been several attempts at modeling context in robots. However, either these attempts assume a fixed number of contexts or use a rule-based approach to determine when to increment the number of contexts. In this paper, we pose the task of when to increment as a learning problem, which we solve using a Recurrent Neural Network. We show that the network successfully (with 98\% testing accuracy) learns to predict when to increment, and demonstrate, in a scene modeling problem (where the correct number of contexts is not known), that the robot increments the number of contexts in an expected manner (i.e., the entropy of the system is reduced). We also present how the incremental model can be used for various scene reasoning tasks.Comment: The first two authors have contributed equally, 6 pages, 8 figures, International Conference on Intelligent Robots (IROS 2018

A disperse dyeable polypropylene (PP) fiber was produced with the addition of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) nanoparticles via melt spinning technique. Accordingly, two different POSS nanoparticle, dodecaphenyl POSS (DP-POSS) and N-phenyl aminopropyl POSS (AP-POSS), was selected. After the dyeing temperature and time were optimized, the effect of dye and POSS concentrations were investigated at optimized dyeing conditions. The wash fastness of fiber samples was also studied. In addition, the percent crystallinities of fiber samples were determined by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and the morphological analyses were performed with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was observed that although the addition of DP-POSS did not change the dyeability of PP fiber significantly, the inclusion of AP-POSS highly enhanced the dyeability of PP fiber. It was concluded that AP-POSS behaved as an excellent sorbent for disperse dye. As a result the pristine PP and DP-POSS modified fibers were dyed to a pale depth and AP-POSS modified fibers were dyed to a deeper depth

    Get PDF
This research aimed to evaluate the school administrators’ and teachers’ views about the use of social media at schools as a new platform in organizational communication. Phenomenology, a qualitative research model, was used in the research. A total of 17 participants who were included in the research (school administrators and teachers) were selected by using the purposive sampling methods that were well-suited to the qualitative research studies, namely, the “maximum variation sampling method” and the “criterion sampling method”. Participants’ views were received via semi-structured and in-depth interviews. The research data were analyzed by using the NVivo 12.0 software. The inductive descriptive analysis, content analysis, and the constant comparison technique were utilized in the interpretation of interview texts. In this context, the participants’ views were grouped under the themes of “views about the definition of social media”, “views about whether the use of social media at schools is necessary”, “views about the purpose of using social media at schools”, “views about the likely effects of using social media at schools”, and “views about recommending the use of social media at schools”. In the research, the participants stated that they viewed social media as a communication tool, the use of social media at schools was necessary, social media platforms could be used for education & instruction and giving (sharing) information, social media could have positive effects besides negative effects, and certain societal, technical, and legal measures should be taken to assure that the social media was used effectively. To ensure the professional use of social media at schools, it is recommended that educators undergo professional development.  Article visualizations
