On-farm adoption of irrigation technologies in two irrigated valleys in Central Chile : the effect of relative abundance of water resources

This paper examines the adoption of irrigation technologies and the underlying diversity in terms of intensity of adoption in 2 irrigated valleys in Central Chile. Results show a low and narrow range of adoption, with only 30 % of farmers adopting technologies. Through a Latent Class Analysis, 2 types of farmers were identified, a small group comprising moderate to intensive users, and a second one consisting of the majority of farmers mostly constrained in natural capital. Furthermore, the econometric analysis indicates that education, diversification, continuous access to water, and perception of water reliability increase the adoption. Conversely, higher waterland ratios, presence of community reservoirs, and earthen canals reduce the uptake. Overall, the dominance of fruit and horticulture production, access to agricultural credits, and full irrigation of the farm are the main drivers of adoption. The latter is a critical factor, indicating a relative abundance of water resources, which, alongside contextual characteristics, discourages farmers from implementing technologies. The low adoption rate, as well as the hindering factors, will challenge public and private organizations to design and implement policies aiming to improve water reliability and management. To generate incentives and increase awareness on the scarcity of the resource in the light of the predicted reductions in water availability because of climate change will be crucial as well

Darkroom Mansion postmortem

Darkroom Mansion is a mobile video game about the subject of chemical-based photographic processing. The game was produced for the Finnish Museum of Photography as part of an initiative to revive the interest in the darkroom and its associated practices. This thesis analyzes the design process of the game from my perspective as designer and programmer. The analysis offers a comprehensive look into the game in terms of structure and its corresponding aesthetics. These views serve as a basis to understand several aspects that are intrinsic to game design and development, and how they were perceived and approached for Darkroom Mansion. The thesis concludes with lessons learned from the overall development process of the game, and offers suggestions to approach the design of similar games more advantageously

Despacho económico de generación termoeléctrica usando métodos de sensibilidad AC.

La generación eléctrica está ligada a factores técnicos propios de cada proceso de transformación de la energía y también a factores económicos que aquello genera, mientras menos costoso sea el producir electricidad, esta se puede generar a mayor cantidad satisfaciendo cada vez más a una mayor cantidad de usuarios, es decir cubriendo la demanda de potencia del sistema con costos reducidos. Esta se convierte en la gran tarea por realizar para operadores de los SEP, la cual es conocida como el Despacho Económico de Generación. En este trabajo se presentan dos métodos de resolución del despacho económico, cada uno de estos tiene su propia formulación para considerar las pérdidas de potencia que existen en la transmisión eléctrica en las redes eléctricas. Los métodos implementados son Lambda iterativo y Jacobiano, los cuales permiten determinar la penalización que se aplica a los generadores tras incrementarse las pérdidas en el sistema de potencia; en ambos casos es necesario primero conocer la solución del flujo de carga del sistema. Los resultados obtenidos para un sistema de prueba indican que el método Lambda iterativo entrega un menor costo de operación a un menor número de iteraciones, lo cual representa ahorro económico y computacional de cálculo.Electricity generation is linked to technical factors characteristic of each energy transformation process and also the economic factors that it generates, the less expensive it is to produce electricity, this can be generated to a greater amount satisfying more and more a greater number of users, that is, covering the power demand of the system with reduced costs. This becomes the great task to be done for operators of the electrical systems, which is known as the Economic Power Dispatch. This paper presents two methods of resolution of the economic dispatch, each of these has its own formulation to consider the power losses that exist in the electrical transmission in the electric networks. The implemented methods are iterative Lambda and the Jacobian, which allow determine the penalty applied to the generators after the losses in the power system have increased; in both cases it is necessary first to know the solution of the load flow of the system. The results obtained for a test system indicate that the iterative Lambda method solves a lower operating cost at a lower number of iterations, which represents economic and computational savings of calculation

Different typologies are compared,grouping them under the same heating degreeday for their comparison and there arises as a hypothesis that the housing in the south extreme of the Patagonia has a high energy consumption that exceeds the variables of the construction and the project. The results are systematized in order to serve as a useful precedent for future improvements. The feasibility of their implementation and the contribution to investigation and development in the sector are discussed as well.Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanism

Identificación y analisis de los problemas presentes en los textos escolares sobre disoluciones y propiedades coligativas

En el presente trabajo se analizaron los problemas que se encuentran en los libros de texto de Química, utilizados por profesores y estudiantes, con la finalidad de poder hacer una clasificación en relación a la tipología de problemas presentes en ellos, sobre disoluciones y propiedades coligativas. Se trabajó con tres libros de secundaria. Se analizaron 142 problemas. A partir del análisis cualitativo- descriptivo se evidencia que hay mayor recurrencia de problemas de tipo artificial, ejercicios de reconocimiento y cuantitativos, en torno a la enseñanza de las disoluciones

REDES DE COOPERACIÓN Y TURISMO RURAL EN EL PUEBLO MÁGICO DE MAZAMITLA, JALISCO

El Programa Pueblos Mágicos (PPM), impulsado por la Secretaria de Turismo del Gobierno de México, incluye actualmente 111 pueblos. Su éxito es cuestionado sobre las ventajas logradas al interior de las localidades rurales, argumentando que son esquemas donde se privatiza el patrimonio y se transforma el lugar en perjuicio de los mismos, donde la mayor afluencia turística ha sido lograda a través de simulación mediante la modificación del patrimonio tangible e intangible del lugar para adaptarla a los imaginarios del visitante y donde también las localidades han sido puestas al servicio del turismo y no viceversa, como establece el discurso oficial. Esta problemática se enmarca dentro de las explicaciones que ofrece el enfoque de la Nueva Ruralidad. El objetivo es analizar si las redes de cooperación en el turismo rural son un factor determinante en el proceso de desarrollo endógeno, así como determinar cómo el PPM ha contribuido en la conformación de nuevas redes de cooperación y el fortalecimiento de las existentes. Los resultados mostrados en el análisis de redes confirman la hipótesis planteada al observar una relación entre los bajos índices de densidad y cooperación de las redes de actores del turismo rural y el lento desarrollo mostrado en la localidad estudiada desde las diferentes dimensiones del desarrollo. Se puede inferir que el grado de desarrollo de un destino turístico patrimonial es determinado en mayor medida por los vínculos y estrategias de cooperación con que cuenta dicho destino. En Mazamitla la mayoría de las estrategias de cooperación de los actores no supera los niveles más básicos de cooperación La escasa cultura de cooperatividad y compromiso resultaron ser un común denominador en la mayoría de los actores, además de no existir actores “difusores” que tomen iniciativas de aglutinamiento ni tampoco los actores del sector público han tomado este papel de guías en los procesos de desarrollo
