International audienceThe SCANMARIS project is a software workshop conceived to develop and evaluate solutions of prevention and monitoring the maritime borders. It relies on tactical picture exploitation tools, known as enriched for resulting from the continuous treatment of important volumes of heterogeneous data gathered in real time and differed time. SCANMARIS allow supervising the permanent evolutions traffic on a global maritime zone in order to follow the flow of transported goods (bulk, containers, energy, chemical....) according to various routes (corridor, coastal traffic...) and to automatically detect criminal traffics of illicit products. SCANMARIS uses data treatment tools to merge ship's data kinematics and other information to establish and maintain a global enriched tactical picture compilation of the traffic, the training methods and the models which exploit the tactical picture. This increase a permanent knowledge of the goods flows, to improve its follow-up, and the rules of investigation organised to detect irregularities like the illicit products flows, disasters, regulation violations, etc. SCANMARIS project involves functions that improve the effectiveness of a global surveillance of the contraveners. They will contribute to set up optimal answers and intervention means well fitting the struggle against terrorist threats, illicit activities and maritime violations

Effects of discontinuing or continuing ongoing statin therapy in severe sepsis and septic shock: a retrospective cohort study

International audienceABSTRACT: INTRODUCTION: Recent publications suggest potential benefits from statins as a preventive or adjuvant therapy in sepsis. Whether ongoing statin therapy should be continued or discontinued in patients admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) for sepsis is open to question. METHODS: We retrospectively compared patients with severe sepsis and septic shock in whom statin therapy had been discontinued or continued. The primary endpoint was the number of organ failure-free days at day 14. Secondary end-points included hospital mortality and safety. The association of statin continuation with outcome was evaluated for crude analysis and after propensity score matching and adjustment. We also measured plasma atorvastatin concentrations in a separate set of ICU septic patients continuing the drug. RESULTS: Patients in whom statin therapy had been continued in the ICU (n = 44) had significantly more organ failure-free days (11 67891011121314 vs. 6 [0-12], mean difference of 2.34, 95%CI from 0.47 to 5.21, P = 0.03) as compared to others (n = 32). However, there were important imbalances between groups, with more hospital-acquired infections, more need for surgery before ICU admission, and a trend towards more septic shock at ICU admission in the discontinuation group. The significant association of statin continuation with organ failure free days found in the crude analysis did not persist after propensity-matching or multivariable adjustment: beta coefficients [95% CI] of 2.37 [-0.96 to 5.70] (P = 0.20) and 2.24 [-0.43 to 4.91] (P = 0.11) respectively. We found particularly high pre-dose and post-dose atorvastatin concentrations in ICU septic patients continuing the drug. CONCLUSIONS: Continuing statin therapy in ICU septic patients was not associated with reduction in the severity of organ failure after matching and adjustment. In addition, the very high plasma concentrations achieved during continuation of statin treatment advocates some caution

But information are acquired only over limited areas or time periods. Thus, the next solutions shall be global and permanent, and shall process all available information to better manage and control all activities at sea. To best achieve this global surveillance of wide maritime areas without constraining the free access and commercial activities, tools are to be developed to automatically combine and process various types of information collected to continuously monitor the ship's traffic, the good flows and to detect criminal activities and threats (illicit goods flows, clandestine immigrants, piracy, accidents, etc.), and regulation violations

ScanMaris : an Adaptive and Integrative Approach for Wide Maritime Zone Surveillance

International audienceThe ScanMaris project is an innovative software workshop conceived to develop and evaluate solutions of prevention and monitoring of wide maritime zones. These solutions rely on tools of tactical picture's exploitation, known as enriched for resulting from the continuous treatment of important volumes of heterogeneous data gathered in real time (sensors) and remote time (intelligence). The ScanMaris solutions enable supervising the permanent evolutions of the dense vessel traffic in order to follow the flows of transported goods (bulk, containers, energy, chemical, fishery product, passenger, etc.) according to various routes (corridor, motorway of the sea, coastal traffic, etc.) and to detect the criminal traffics (narcotics, smuggling, illegal immigration, illegal resource fishing, etc). This paper focuses on the technologies involved in the project with their major results. Nevertheless, there is no global analysis of the workshop at this stage, because ScanMaris will be recently funded by the French National Research Agency ANR, and its duration is of 24 months

    Dual Magnetic Separator for TRIÎĽ\muP

The TRIÎĽ\muP facility, under construction at KVI, requires the production and separation of short-lived and rare isotopes. Direct reactions, fragmentation and fusion-evaporation reactions in normal and inverse kinematics are foreseen to produce nuclides of interest with a variety of heavy-ion beams from the superconducting cyclotron AGOR. For this purpose, we have designed, constructed and commissioned a versatile magnetic separator that allows efficient injection into an ion catcher, i.e., gas-filled stopper/cooler or thermal ionizer, from which a low energy radioactive beam will be extracted. The separator performance was tested with the production and clean separation of 21^{21}Na ions, where a beam purity of 99.5% could be achieved. For fusion-evaporation products, some of the features of its operation as a gas-filled recoil separator were tested.Comment: accepted by Nucl.Instr. Meth., final versio
